HAPPY BIRTHDAY GAMBLER BEST WISHES TOM
-
Must of just been some skim ice as there has been small boats launching periodically for a week or more, no great commotion as of yet but you can maneuver a boat in there inbwteeen the docks that are stored on the ramp, Screamer got their 31 Baha out of there with the dock storage configuration as did we with my 26 Pro Hunter. Any body is good to go who wants to take a dip, water temp. was 38 last time I was there Tuesday. Floating ice and debris visible in and around the harbor daily. Tom

Wow, sad to say the least, best wishes to Shirley, family and close friends. Joe's dedications to his pastime passions showed very well !! I remember times when I was called upon by our Cold Steel team members to read Joe's posts while they were at that end of the lake on the water so I could read what "At The Oak" had to report to them, they even had me print it off just before I would leave Oswego heading that way. I also remember when the Pirate Spoons were added to our Oswego Tackle shop wall in the later 80's many years ago, we sold many. I never met Joe or Shirley but I felt their influence and counted on their daily dedication, a true loss !! Nice write up Capt. Bob Songin Tom

For any anglers who may not have received the Sharks they were looking at LOTSA we do have more including the new 20#'s We have Saphire, Black and Chrome all in 20# May have more 15# Black faceted as well (not sure yet) Please mention the LOTSA sale to get that price while qty lasts Please inquire [email protected] Our Torpedos however are back to normal prices and will have more in stock in the weeks ahead (Unless you inquired after we ran out, we would be happy to extend LOTSA price plus shipping charges of $9/set) Tom

Here is my best answer: My order is up to 21 Sharks, 7 of which are 15#'s, the rest are the new 20#'s, I am pretty sure there will be plenty of extra's having Ed on hand, but I know for sure I have at least 5 extra 20#'s available in 2 colors, black faceted & the new poly chrome or poly chrome/blue (I forgot, lol) I am thinking we will be ok if we have no more requests than for another 10 or 12 or so??? Furno 582 fish finder (SOLD)
A-TOM-MIK replied to rapala's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
I bought an identical unit to this for 1600.00 back in 1993 for the last boat I owned, I must add it was the most popular unit on the market then (in my area) and for a number of years before and after, I also had many friends with the same unit the reason I purchased mine, what a unit it was, showed clear hooks with great magnification and very distinguishable bait and fish marks. We could tell the difference between the popular Kings vs. the many Lakers we had back then by the depth of the hooks. Showed current lines exactly the way we liked to see them, simply an awesome machine, I just needed to pay respects !!!!! I will be purchasing the successor to this model the 585 in the near future in hopes it will perform as the FCV 582 did for me many years ago. This would make someone an awesome finder I am sure. Compliments of the Cold Steel Sportfishing team Tom -
Hi Rob, I may have over a dozen or 2 not sure what to get for them though, Triple SSS cost is like 4.57 if you buy in quantity (12 I think). If you don't find what your looking for maybe I can do 4 bucks ea. unless you buy all I have then maybe I will do like 3 ea. Let me know bud Tom

Question for those who won money in Niagara Pro Am
A-TOM-MIK replied to MyTurn's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Got Mine !!!!! -
Have to agree with Rob, it certainly hasn't proven itself to hurt. G-Fly tried it a few years ago without much success, they have pretty much gone away but can be found if you look hard enough. We added the E chips to our flies at a very expensive commitment last season, the chips themselves come with a heft price-tag. After 1 season with A-TOM-MIK flies w/ E chips our sales (at 7 sport shops and online) averaged 1 in 20 (guessing) in heavy favor of our stock product with our simple stock rattle. We did sell some however and we are continuing on with our manufacture with them, we never had 1 testimonial where an angler was convinced of a definitive advantage? FWIW it was a poor Salmon season on the lake in our Eastern Basin, so maybe this year will tell a better tail of its productiveness, we will see !! Tom

Kevin, your marina will offer a great setting for this leg of the Scotty, we have been enjoying the hospitality of Wilson for many years as our tourney participation has come and gone, truly a glamorous stay each season, very inviting to say the least my friend !! It's a great thing, nice way to get lots of anglers super excited for the 5 Scotty's events by offering a 20G 1st place prize/per each !!! WOW !!! Can not wait, as a tourney angler the feeling of this future competition sure does feel good !! Also heard rumors of generous payouts down the line as well. A few rules that should favor many anglers who have showed concern in the past regarding participation: -Salmon Only -No Observer -3 man teams a great option, even with an 8 rod limit for the Scotty's those 3 man teams can feel the ut-most confidence. Running 6 rods has proven itself productive in other Canadian based tourneys (Just ask Vince as he brought a staggering limit of heavy Kings in to win the Tightline-Shootout running the limit of 6 rods in 2008) -Largest 5 Salmon -Pre-fish Friday big King event -New exciting major sponsors for Big Fish Friday, King of the Lake Over-all and each of the Scotty events itself, even A-TOM-MIK has found its sponsorship place for this event and it sure does make us happy to be involved in another prestigious "Big Lake" competition -As this event will follow suit to the Canadian based Port Dalhouise Scotty held 9/2008 there were some awesome weigh-in advantages that were fast, thorough and pretty much painless, a new idea/concept in weighing of the Salmon that will keep your interest in the weigh-in. Some really neat procedures favoring anglers, fun stuff !!! HOW EXCITING IS THIS ????? I am sure the rest of the details will follow as soon as the daunting task of tying all remaining loose ends come together. Stay tuned as Yvan would like to let this all loose as quickly as possible, just so much to come together, but well worth the wait !!! Tom

Should have some available for the LOTSA show as well Tom

Are you asking about different manufacturers?, different material types?, different color patterns or schemes?, if so maybe I can shed some light? There are many variables concerning various fly manufacture, from wet/dry and other variations built across seas to American made product built in the states. All of which utilizes materials from synthetic properties to natural and literally everything in-between. All intent is to coerce our prey to eat our offering, there are a multitude of options, best advice is too chat with locals in the area you wish to target and get some input on what the locals have already figured out !! You mentioned Howie and Spin Doctors so I will assume your targeting game fish in your area in hopes to bring a similarity to the way we target our game fish of choice off the great lakes? If that's the case here is some information for that art (that we have fine tuned to date) to enlighten you on a few of the variables we favor for targeting our preferred species the King Chinook Salmon. Most input on this board is directly related to angling on Lake Ontario, we have already narrowed down a few popular materials we use on our lake to build our "trolling flies" of choice, you will find mostly materials made of mylars. Some popular differences will consist of the following but are not limited to: Manufacture variations -Tying with thread and/or sealing with cement types -Taping instead of tying with thread -Affixing mylars with tubing or other Rigging variations -Mono or Fluor lines and lb. tests -Different quality components (hooks ie.) -Single and/or double snelled hooks (mixtures of treble's/singles) Material differences -You mentioned bucktails, bucktail has been used since the beginning of time and catches fish just great for certain presentations, not too popular relating to what we are talking about on Lake Ontario, it is hollow and very buoyant -Twisted materials in hair-like widths (1/69") flashabou types -Wider cut laminated films from 1/40" to 1/16" (probably most popular here, known as banded tinsel, but actually mostly PVC materials) -Dyed mylar of sorts How a fly is built, what it is made of and how it is rigged are all very important factors, again concerning Lake Ontario we currently have it somewhat already figured out, like Rich and Rob mentioned choosing color variations is all part of the last key to success just like choosing the attractor your running it with, with a multitude of options there as well the everyday angler is on a constant path to find the magic potion !!! To simply answer your question of what type/brand fly is more attractive to a Salmon over another leaves a lot of info to be desired, as of the last 8 years since Howie flies were first introduced into our eastern basin of Lake Ontario a million and one options have been available. Seems like the 4" long variation of 1/28" cut (sometimes tied sparsely to sometimes rather full) that slides onto your leader (Howie type, A-TOM-MIK, etc.) with a few beads and a 22" or so leader of 50# test line trolled behind another multitude of attractors has been as closest to that answer as we have reached so far !!! Good luck with finding a better answer and if you do remember us here ok? LOL Tom
