I'm sure the kings, cohos and steelies were there, you just had to make it outside the fog bank and cold inshore water. The numbers weren't great during the derby but there were some nice fish to be had.

9th place Steelhead off I-Bay. Silver glow green on full leadcore in 150 fow. One of these years it will actually be my name on a derby fish.... What a group of monster fish that were caught this year in the west end.... just awesome.... great job to everyone!

Every setup took a bite. We had a steady pick until 9am when the wind died and so went the fishing. The NNE started up about 11am and the fishing never improved, but we went 4 for 5 up until 9am. Both kings were 16 and 18lbs and the 2 coho, plus we dumped another decent king. Wire divers with green spinnies/hammer flies at 150 and 220 had kings, 50' rigger took a king with 42 second spoon, 60' rigger and leadcore each took coho. Dumped a Steelhead off the surface. Things will be very different tommorrow, but the screen was not looking too bad in that water this morning, but we were not able to catch up with them again afterthe morning bite. Every year is different but the schools migrate north as the water warms up the coast, so an early tuna bite is off the Carolinas in May/June, Virginia to Jersey Shore in July and then August/September the best tuna bite is off Montauk to the Cape. Very generic, but I fished Tuna for a few years in August off Montauk, one old captain from the Oak is running out of Oregon Inlet,NC and my brother lives in Charleston, SC so this is where my statements come from.

Prefer 12-13lb ball type with black coating.

A buddy of mine is looking for a Volvo Penta mechanic to work on his outdrive, preferably within the Rochester area. Are there any Private mechanics out there that anyone is aware of?

Keep it really simple... wet the fillets with water and roll in italian bread crumbs, bake in oven at 350 for 8-10 minutes max... spray baking sheet with pam first to limit sticking... healthy and tasty!

It looks to me that the scotty stop beads are plastic that snap closed around the cable and are fairly large in diameter. So, from the perspective of looking at them on the computer, I guess I don't see why one of them will not work on its own to trip the newer autostop in the Big Jon pulley.

Paul, Thanks, I will take a closer look at the Scotty system... a much better idea than buying than Scotty's!

Just looking for new ideas to make this autostop work better. The stock design of using a crimp to hold the autostop bead in place is not good. I had the cable break at the crimp last fall and lost my probe accordingly. I have been unable to get any satisfaction from Big Jon for this shoddy design. Does anyone have any ideas out there on how to make the system work better without this risk?

I'm guessing a pair of 250 Yami's on the back? It won't be easy to maneuver a 30 footer with them... my stern drives do a great job on the 25 footer backing into the dock, but in a crosswind, once the bow starts to go, it goes in a hurry and I can't get out of it. You'll just have a higher Grady bow to catch the wind and even more mass... you learn to compensate the best you can. Where will you be docking?

Yes... the lake claimed another probe, but at least I had a backup! Unfortunately, the Fish Gods were not kind in allowing that 37 lber to jump on the line after the sacrifice.... I tried!

Anthony, Yeah... my hunch did not pan out with big fish, but at least there was action and I didn't have to run very far on a short morning. You guys still drew 7 bites with your decisions which is not a bad morning at all, just that the boating percentage was not as good. If you boated 2 or 3 more of those bites, then the day has an entirely different spin on it. No matter what, we're closing out on another great season out there and all getting to know each other better which is only going to help in the coming years with keeping reliable reports for our area coming in. That's the whole point of this board... we all need to report the good the bad and the ugly no matter what!
