  1. Ok , A hundred year veteran of hunting well 40 years ,Ive got to know the rules pretty good so i dont read the guide much the other day i was cleaning my "pile" and noticed the cover so i opened to page 12 .. WOW their are coyotes in NY, and maybe they have a impact on the deer herd.. Now 40 years ago i wasnt the sharpest stick in the woods but i saw deer lots of them tho mostly tails. I was unaware of their nose, eyes and ears and ability to pattern humans. most what i knew was self tought as calulaters were the high teck items in those days and Ed Sullivan and Walt Disney coverd very little on the topic.. !8 tears ago i started "bow " hunting with many dicoveries of buck feaver, twigs, and some pretty smart deer Lots Of Them. In the late 80,s I was a ski buff hitting the slope every chance i could ,when a 10 pac pass was 99 bucks and a season pass was a outragious 200.00. Many nights i traveled rt 13 returning home rather it was 4,pm or 11pm you would see litteraly hundred of deer in the newfield, alpine area with lotsof deer along the route. Yesterday i talked to a hunter who has been active in that area for 20 pluss years , in the last 10 years the deer have all but dissapeared cept for backyards, road edges, and small town outskirts.. And coyote population exploding in every inch of those woods. So some great brains decided to spend our tax dollars to research these elusive dogs. UM ask the hunters ,no more yearlings wandering around alone munching leaves, doe population dropping like flys , up to 5 deer a person with 10's of thousands more "nucance permits" issued to landowners and farmers. Yes at one time some areas needid trimming with isolated areas still having enuf deer to justify permits. (coyotes havent moved in heavy yet),,,, As any hunter knows we have our dens where we discuss sucess or not in the field, and some of us have a pretty good idea whats up.(or down) lets see a coyote is basicly a dog with 5 to 8 pups per litter,at let me guess very low as to what i see the hide dealers haul in every year lets say 5000 females x 6 pups a year x will just go back 10 years each adult eating 5lbs a day oh lets say deer , avarage deer,100lbs eatable parts ,divide by curent coyote population x numbers of dogs = deer loss ..................Hmm maybe i better get out my "high tec" devise from my youth (calculator) to get a answer.......or go in the woods for a day...
  2. aRRGH cut it out , ive leased some land in odessa so ive been really hunting it hard but with kid gloves, In 2 days (last two days ) the scrapes went from "O" to 100 ....... but no good sightings tho i snuck 25 yds from a monster 4 pt bedded down wed, for every deer track i see 10 coyote tracks, and after sunset the dogs let out their evening howl in surrond sound. i should of got within 10 yds of that 4 pt it was a perfect stalk but his head was spinning like a top from 70 yds in not even a chickadee went un-noticed to him they are at 110% alert. Great jjob you two ,rare to get 1 nice buck let alone 2 in one outing...

Ive tried to get his butt out there a few times, gave me some crap about his GF not letting him get that far away and he cant get his favorite country western radio channel there....Beside he cant catch fish unless their are a whole bunch schooled in one spot...

  9. i CAN FEELYOUR CONCERN ON THE BIG GUYS But great BUFFYfishing outweighs size If ya just target the big ones (lure size) ya might be surprised ,yajust gotta sortout the small fish schools, course the 20 mph west wind gives ya a few less options of how to spend your time...maybe i missed it getting cought up lookin at pics any harnesses in that mix?
  10. hmm sent .i think i saw some deer costomes on sale at the mall ...Bad news was all they had left were DOES.
  11. I can hear the ending ,arrow poped off string ,hit the release on the draw, wrong pin, griped bow(left shot) peeked (right shot),so dam nervous couldnt get the release on the string, darn winter jacket sleave, never saw the stick, think it was a good shot missed by 3 ft,ok what else have i done read the list jerry so it dont happen to you..and the day you make that perfect shot youll retell the story a 100 times and when something goes wrong after a year of planing youll wanna quit .........till next time ,,,oh i hope you dont throw your putter in the water hazzard if you miss a putt, cause a bow is 5 times as expensive nice pics ..
  12. A few years back I met one of those BIG gental souls at the L.O.T.S.A. sale kind of a chatter box too! Farmer overalls beard and took up 2 chairs...the kind of guy we all pray doesnt sit in front of us at the movies, but would be proud to call a friend (specially in a roudy bar "hey loudmoulth this is my friend and hes got my back" ).. (i hope) He's been on this spinning ball for a long time ,and probly has a story or two to prove it.. So if ya see BIG DAVE comming at ya put your hand high above your head and shake his and wish him a great day,!!!!!!! As i get older (probly a little wiser too) Ive learned life has many overlooked gems.. AND SOME BIG DUDES TOO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HAPPY BIRFDAY "BIG" BIGGER,HUDGE DAVE....

  14. Ill bet it stoped to read the weight rating of that stand before going under,,,, WHEW!! wish those big bucks were so careless..
  15. Thanks shawn just what i need another succesfull deer story as i get ready to head out to the woods.. The switch was flipped here yesterday (rut) 3 dead buck and one doe overnite dead along a 15 mile streach of rt 86....Thanks for the story and remember its the wet finger not the weather channel that determins the wind .... PS ....just so you know i was talking to your neighbor and he said some lady was in your back yard with a broom handle beating your target Hollaring "If that S O B goes hunting or fishing one more time he ,s gonna end up with this stick aside his head" Just thought id give you a heads up and dont store your drills near the boat... PSS: thought you might want to know ,FISHINMAN called and said you were target shooting at 10 yds ,your arrow deflected off the back of your target and when ya went in the field to find the arrow it was stuck in the deer you got by accident..........hey wait is that tire marks across that deers chest ?
  16. nice 1.5year old gonna make a nice buck in 2 years
  17. yea if ya dont wanna waste it cut it out and grind to make jerky,,,,,,,,,, the ribs, brisket, and neck all fare well in the oven as a roast type cooking a bed of good rocksalt makes a hudge differenct in taste do some research on this style cooking and youll be haooy with the results. A old polish woman gave me the way she cooked with Good grade rock salt and the meat fell apart and was very moist and tasty. Dont forget to remove the glands if you do th neck
  18. Ok first kid showes up really nasty little guy and says he a little MUSKYBOB. Then some Mcdonalds fry cook trying to imitate FISHINMAN but he had a camera and was going the right deriction... OMG some kid dressed as a prision escapie was ON THE LAM.. AWW poor kid was all squashed said he was some sort of SLIDERBITE. He HE her's another dressed as the town idiot said his name is JASON.. Another with a eye patch said he was "one eye jack" and had a RUNNIN REBEL after him ? Holy Cow here comes a beautiful 25 yr old dressed as BUFFY..........lights are out gotta go................................................
  19. The antler thing wont work we just got to get rid of the "bad genes" ive got a 3.5 yr 6 ptand a 2.5 yr6pt must be father and son other than size they look almost identical and from the same woods (diff years too) so as they do in big buck country and remove the bad genes ,,, i just found a dead 1.5 yr 8pt hit by a car it was almost 16 in wide with 6 in g2,s ....now that was some good genes to pass...thats what the babys looklike in indaina where i hunt ya dont even look at little 8,s or 10,s cause them big boys dont show themselfs very long at all.. we have been playing with one "club deer" for the last 3 years its a 3 pt on one side and the other is near a 8 or 9in. dia club about 18 in long pure white looks like a white baseball bat sticking outa the weeds when he lays down. Maybe the landowner might want some venison we just dont want to fill our tag with all the potential out there.. But if he looks as cool as its been getting he might be a trophy ...................of the oddball kind..11 days to go......
  20. Ive been letting em walk, bout 10 yrs ago Indiana cut out the 2 buck season (bow, gun). and out there them boys dont mess around with poachers soon if not already their is a fine and im not shure if its by points or inches but ive heard the figure it will cost you $1,ooo.oo per point or maybe score inch over 110 putting the fines in the 10's of thousands ..so if ny bucked down to 1 per year and stiffined the poacher fines,I'll bet the DEC will have their funds to operate at 100% and we will see bucks like this as almost a norm not a abnorm... And the Depends company would double their sales every hunting season..
  21. Ok im gonna need some help on this one ,NOT that i cant pull my own weight but im running late for hunting... From a "buff" lake ontario fisherman by summer and a dumpster diving bear chasing investagater in his "off water"times another good man turns another page.. My appoligies ""PETE" for sleepingin and not giving you a proper bashing but ive been doining pretty well the last couple weeks.. So HAPPY BIRFDAY "ON THE LAM" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 may WE all have a better year ahead...And You Have a GREAT DAY ... and as always with our nations finest "THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU DO" RAY K.
  22. Hey fly b those look like the suberb deer i saw along rt 90 this summer you been hunting those tame deer....
  23. Gregs fault....jerry went after him yesterday so my guess is he is healthier than ever., As is the trophy I've been hunting, the 8 and 10 pt ive let go might be camp meat nnnnnnnnnnnaaaaaaaaaaaa go big or go home empty,,it will happen today i will set up the closest to the bedding area of 5 decent does ...............
  24. flash stay off my land......will be in White cty for opening day of gun.... I ant no moon phaser stay home till it happens type hunter alli know in the corning area and odessa area 25 miles apart the early rut sign rotaters every other year in these two areas.. one year my buddy sees early sign and the next i see early signs,,or at least its been that way for the last 27 years sence ive started to hunt and stay informed by him with daily calls...also sence 92 when i started to get serious with a bow holloween weekend ..this is typically the start of the week of playing as most bucks start to get their feathers ruffeled, watch the trail cams and notice the viewing hours and start to look for broken tigns....yea the moon does have some predictions ,but its easier for me to remember THE GREAT PUMPKIN.. This is typically the week i see the big one shoot like a little girl and threaten to never bow hunt again..then the first buck that ant no wall hanger walks within 40 yds i drop it like i was a pro ....some day ill man up and gget the bbbbig one ..
