  1. I think youll be trollin with a limp dyspy rod or pier fishing with a broomstick ... the jet diver ant so bad with a med action and that would be a good pier rod too.... ive got a old dyspy rod 10 ft stiff and reel too also probly got some pier rods ..if your near corning ..
  2. yea thats my next move dave was just hopeing for the easy way out....
  3. yes to the silvers i spoke with a guy who has been doing it for over 20 years but the conditions need to be smooth (little wind) ,,,ive been thinking about it for the last 5 years next good day ill give it a shot...
  4. I've only used the overhand fo about 10 years and havent had one fail yet but ill keep a close eye on them from now on but out of fairness i only hit L O about 100 days a year ,so maybe if you fish a lot you get failures at the knot....
  5. buy on of each ,best case youll have a extra rod worse case is youll have a broken rod...i like the mh rods so you can crank em down for inital hookset ,,suppose thats the main advantage to the longer rods also, along with some extra play for a sudden head shake, or good steelie , brown struggle....
  6. sharpen hooks from sides not cone sharpen and check releases for good tightness..but i also agree your drags might be a tad tight and your trying to force the fish in...,, and sometimes around bait thefish arnt as agressive ,if their full ,and ya might be just getting some sloppy hits .. some hooks also have a slight inward bend to them at the tip ,,I like mine to be straight and sharp,,,a needle should feel dull in comparison to a sharp hook
  7. yup du boats gotta be first unless she is a fisherperson too ...hmm honeymoon cruise on lake ontario.....or better yet the erie canal now thats a nice trip..
  8. id give it 12 to 15 lb ......looks like a good fly hatch day out there....(biters) great job with the kiddo and you....if ya kept towards canada a mile or two ya probly woulda got into some better temp depths and rainbows
  9. hold on left shoulder and gently pat on the back. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . a old timer showed me just the oppisite of sorta going from the head back, he explained the reason they cant expell air is the throught is forced shut from excessive air bladder pressure and when you push the bladder back it releaves the pressure and a small amount of air releases each time then do the tail forward gently to finish off if needed ...ive done this once or twice in the last 15 years with great sucess...or their wouldnt be any lakers left in seneca lake
  10. The famales are starting to show up .......a good example tho different spiecies we got a 39 in male stripper on the hudson 19 lbs ,,,,a 37 in female went over 27 lbs probly closer to 30 lbs....and when temps allow and those rogue fish move into bait they can really swell up after a few trips through the bait ball.
  11. One other thing is most browns in ontario {if not all} are of a german strain.. The streams in germany are shallow and warm {in summer) and these browns can take a tad warmer temp than most give them credit for so dont rule out the 65 deg water and a tad warmer.. after a strong north blow and the warm water blows (rolls) in some of the big boys juststay put but go sorta dormate cause they are sorta terrotial and dont wanna give up their spot ( a little fish told me that a very old fish) so a week long gental or a 1 or 2 day strong blow from the south is a good time to get the big boys when they "turn back on" speed ,speed, speed and temp are a must for the thermal as mentioned above..... if you dont have a probe kinda watch the line the charters are running FOW as browns are one of the easiest fish to target due to their bottom orenation and can fill a box much easier for their clients..run your stuff up 10 to 20 ft off bottom on that line(fow)... Just give em as much room as you can within reason that is how many of them support their family and some of them even OWN the lake and can mess up your stuff if you dont pay attention.. run spoons that can take the slow speeds (or stickbaits ) Opps like tim said on temps
  12. You seem like anice Guy . Very frendly and open to suggestions about your questions. It kinda gives you a warm fuzzy feeling ,after helping a new guy .. If you have any other questions I'm shure many folks here will take time outa their day to help!! Some times people say "THANK YOU" to all answers as we are all different and might have a tad diff. style of a program.. OPPS let me help with PROGRAM==A STYLE OR ASSORTMENT OF LURES,BAITS,RIGGER DEPTH,SPEED RUN BY A FISHERMAN .....(not a piece of paper handed out at the door of a school play)
  13. I heard they were pretty strict in the jail your in with the pic security thing..
  14. good brown spoon due to action at low speeds, steelies tend to be a narrow spoon fish but the big ones have no problem with anything,,,never ran em for salmon but back in the day the oldtimers said they work for salmon more towards fall and east end... the lightning bolt has its moments with coho and kings in the spring but again with all the new stuff that works so good its tuff to dig in the box and replace a lure you have confidence in.. as far as stocking your shelves with em i might go with special order.. PS I never saw a lure package that says "This lure will not catch fish ever"
  15. youll like the 7 ftrs,im a tad challenged in the reach division also,,,the first rods i had were 7 ft and i could reach the tip with only a 2 ft ladder not 4ft i use now. go for the 7 ftrs.
  16. No Kim Im just a country boy who doesnt try to say some thing to spin it,,,,didnt want to make a political issue either ...just plain oll what the post says ...Tom is a great guy who Ive dissused this post with him with .PM...I offered to pull it also and all was well with him and I, and the post.. This post is a thank you to Tom and his products ,and He knows that through PM conversations.. From a team (member) who has fished a few pro/ams ,tried to get some excitement on this board for new teams to at least give it a try, to letting a great supporter know how the few teams and guys feel and what is said under the tent,at the dock, over dinner, coffee, and at a few night hangouts too .. Thats half the problem with this country you try to Thank someone , let them know you have been with them from day one, appreacieate what they have done up till now, and let them know that their missed at events and would "like to stand behind them (Tom)" at events dispite the politics of it all .... and a few LIBERALS try to spin a "ATTABOY" into some negative message to oppose the real message ...!!!!!! Bottom line If you support tom and his current decisions let him know,If you miss him at the events . let him know, just a simple response like >>> <<<<< is all thats needed... I always try to be of a positive help on this site dispite the few liberals who have to battle, twist, and interpertate a message to promote their own agenda. The post could of read" I want you back" but i got some ears ,and hear when i listen, and what i hear around the lake is Tom is missed ,supported, and "WE" would like to have him back as friends...... Ray K

  18. as glen said the wire setups are something most have out ,couple blue dolphins and green dolph.,,,,,nbk,,,,,,spooks,,,few purple spoons and ya got your basic colors oh green and silver ,,,,black and silver,,,,flys dark green ,pro/ams,,white(nosee em)and hammer,,,green paddles, white splattered green (dots),mtn dew, maybe green chrome for sunny days,... will get you into fish 95 % of the time ....a-tom-mik is a good brand and get thr "pro" rigs with double hooks...
  19. yea get on my team for the challange...
  20. Also the amount of line or dia of wire on spool will make big diff .also when you retrive is the line gathering on one side that might Increase the diameter that will give counter inaccurate reading like yer getting .?? make shure line is passing through weight hook for best line laying on the spool ...you can remove the gear and counter and swap to see if it s the counter before shelling out the 25 bucks
  21. cell phone pic so it looks further away than it is nearest other boat was about 1/4 mile guess they couldnt see my tin can as they over took us for about a 1 mile streach.almost ran into the back of the spread till i finally got the drivers attention,, gotta love the autopiolets.
  22. another nice to do is the undeway handshake ,we had a boat that "flatout'got real close in derby sun. I know he was setting up for a wide left turn due to the tad bumpy conditions and wasnt paying attention to the approaching boats so he hadda sorta do the handshake manuver
