ray koziatek replied to Capt Vince Pierleoni's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
ill be in olcott tomorrow if ya can hold it till then..............ray -
i think if you move a bit youll still do good ,if ya have a fishfinder zoom in max and look the bottom over good ..tho there are always "resedent fish" everywhere lakers actually migrate around the lake specially when they get bigger..to stay on bait ...If you cant see the fish on bottom look for the schools of bait the bigboys arnt too far from them..The problem with jigging is not covering much ground so take a few hours driving around slow and look for the bigger schools ,,note temps depths, time of year, time of day,and weather conditions...seems like a lot of info to retain but after a while it will be second nature..

Just for a little heads up for some of you newer guys ,from some one who reads most every post ,has a lot of mechanical knowlage, and has even cought a few fish over the years.... If borderline 350, or Hank of L&M repair give ya some marine engine advice your lucky as these are 2 of the best marine engine guys that their is....So if they say it you can pretty much "take it to the bank" they are right 99.9% of the time .... But as times change its always a good thing to look for "fresh ideas" just in case.............................................................................they dont respond to a post of a fellow "Boater In Need"............................................but they have been here for free advice for 1000's of questions .................So THANKS TO """ALL"""" WHO HELP THIS SITE BE A GREAT RESOURCE TO SOOOO MANY!!!!! Ray K.

The biguns are there ya just gotta get through the little ones first, Ive never done it due to boycotting keuka for the last 20 years but ill bet some early morning shoreline trollin would put ya on some nice ones ..about 3 years back my barbers (hair cutter singular) wife got a 19lbr just up from the switz..

Hmm ,guess it depends what yer targeting ,i would never consider running 12 lb main in the first place with a slider not that it cant be done ,but the only hookset you get (first hit) is dependent on the tension of your main line even a razor sharp hook ant gonna grab much lip.. Then ya gotta remember abrasion, knot strength, release wear, and a few hundred tail beatings as the fish swims away during the fight and if yer running dypsys and the fish rises into your cable you better have your cat like reflexes ready to clear . Some times when the fishing is real good (salmon) ill run the ultra light with a rigger setup only so i can shutdown and play out the fish but after the fight its gotta go in the box due to exhaustion. Id say in answering yer question all my sliders are 15 lb 90% of the time , If im in a derby i might sep up to 20 for inshurance,on 20 lb main line..Id say match yer mainline at that small of dia. if yer gonna run the small dia id suggest running clean spoon program ,personally id rather have a fussy fish pass my 15 to 20 lb test than loose my favorate spoon ..

IM NOT SHURE IVE NEVER KINKED COPPER BEFORE. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . , , , ,if its not too bad or you streighten carefully you can slide or run the copper across a round surface (I use my handrail quite often ) then carefully give it the oll pull test for strength test....................now yer starting to understand why guys with no patience dont use copper......... Sorry cant help on the knot thing but my 600 ft rig is now 540 ft

Ya know the worst part of responding to a post like this (and i feel all input should be its a FREE country "for now" ) Is the wormy handshake and side glances you get when you meet the folks that kinda bent your nose..(or broke it)... But i do know ONE THING Many were not to happy in the AM division when expecting to be paid back or reconigized 10 places To find out at weighin that only 5 will be ,I dont care if their is only 10 boats that get in it ok give cash of smaller amounts all the way down ,OR cash first 5 and Sponcer gifts to other 5 or even $100 bucks each to offset the cost a tad ..........Plus from the Commitees View ya probly lost 20 or more guys at final weighin after word was spread (left early) , so that was 20 less to buy food and beverage ,and maybe 50/50 or raffle tickets........... The best thing at the Scotty derby when signing in was getting the TEAM packet and the shirts were a nice momento too, THO MUSKY WAS A LITTLE DISSAPOINTED THERE WAS NO PLAID OR STRIPED SHIRTS!!!!!! So as the derby gets closer Im gonna try and "forget my last round of golf" get into this derby WITH A FRESH MIND AND BODY (wanna see?) And no matter where we place ............This will be the first time my team will go home NOT as a bunch of L.O.U.S.E.R.S. Tho landshark told me PEGASUS is Greek for "Fluffy Unicorn" is that true??? see ya all friday....................Ray K.-----------------TEAM FLUFFY..........er ....UM... "PEGASUS"

my 22 ft alum is the same ya just gotta find that "happy depth" with the bunks. just deep enuf so ya gotta winch it in place ... The pressure on mine will center it up with no side wind (or very little) if i pull out slow..or ya might need someone to hold center using the fenders as a guide ..IE: for me its about 4"from the fender to side of boat...and yer right the steep ramps or backing in too deep makes it worse ....what i do then is winch it tight pull forward a tad then as boat settles ill winch it to the right spot so my winch "eye" (on boat) is 1 in from my winch support on trailer............every boat /trailer has its happy spot so ya gotta experment a tad to figure your spot..... Not a good thing to try and figure out on busy weekend at the launch .................Tho it is fun to watch some one else to do this ................IF YOUR NOT WAITING IN LINE !!!! youll get it and yes this is normal all part of the learning curve of boating.....
