  2. wELL WHO WON????????????????????????????????????????????? IM STUCK IN GETTYSBURGH AND THEIR ANT NO NEWS
  3. here is my theory of the line issue with browns,as youknow the stained water to muddy is what we seek for "good"brown water....Ive caught em on 20 lb test (usually in clearer water) and as light as 15 lb test in the stained,I work hard for my lure money and like to keep as many as possably from breakoffs,I do enuf stupid things over the course of a season to lose em on my own ,,,, when i fight a fish its to enjoy the fight but get it to the boat quick enuf for a good release(revival).. If ya set the drag to 1# then ya still can have a 2# line fight (on 15lb line) weith the same results = Totally played fish ,and long to no revival......opps i diggress again... Ok after a long cold winter them browns enjoy the "warm shallows" as much as the bait that swims in it for the needed feed to assure a good survival and reproduction rate. Now I know a thing or two about visability under these "stained" conditions and trust me ant NO fish gonna see 20 ft in 2 ft of visability, shure they have the latteral line that they depend on ((thus giving them the "spooky or shy" reputation))..... Imagine this :you see poorly(muddy conditions) and depend on your ears (latteral line) for locating food...you hear a rabbit aproaching as your sitting very still waiting for it to get in sight ,just then a train rumbles past (boat) your still there (the brown) the rabbit is still approaching(lure)but you cant put 1and 1 togeather for the ambuse (no smell clean lure) no hit... Thus plainer boards and quiet trollin moters a must... Now same senero with 2 different size lines (dia.) every thing is perfect(no close train (or boat) the (rabbit) (lure) is still approaching so you move slightly for the perfect ambuse position directly in front of approaching prey (lure) all of a sudden a 1/2 in rope gets draged across your head (20 lb test line) you lose focus, get spooked ,or move a tad from the irratating drag across your nose.....====NO BITE now your all set again thstime a smooth small string (10lb line) hits you but it dont scare the shi# outa ya so you wait for that approaching lure with just a slight twitch of your head to clear the line AND=======WAMMO YOU HOOK UP..
  4. ill 2nd the ground the 3 wire plugs to the guages hava ground one is probly dangling just a bit... I had same problem about a 30 sec fix

  6. give the missus our sympathy , ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I hope yer happy (both of ya)) ..If she is as nice of a girl as you are a person you will have a great ride in life with many, many snotty noses to wipe or none at all and thats ok too! i hope she will like the lou gang at the wedding ive been saving walleye scales to toss instead of rice, and old spoons for the bumper,we found a limo with a trailer ball to tow the boat, and no fishing from the Niagra falls lookout,ya know i could go on but ivew gotta get ready to hit the road again.......................P.S.the wife shut me off again, woke up bit*#en about my snoring, kicked me in the back to let the dog out,and made me clean the cat litter, make the coffee(wrong of course)....gosh i love the married life !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!RUN MIKEY RUN AND NEVER LOOK BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. rod welcome to my backyard glad you guys got a few,,18 mile drive for jason or i,,,,still draggin the anchor from florida in N.C. now ,,,,maybe if ya get the urge to come back up ill show ya some of the sights and maybe a fish or two also ...
  8. YER the blame end ,,all connections to a battery "MUST BE FUSED WITHIN 1 FT OF THE BATTERY" as told to me by a Inshurance investagater for boats.. exatly to eliminate the issue you had.. The possiabilty of chaffin, critter damage(mice) improper supported wires((shorts) are much more likley with a boat and if their is a fire it should be contained to a small area where ya got a chance to put it out without tearing the boat apart to find the "HOT" wire. Also this is a good reminder for us all to check for such issues and """CHECK ALL SAFTY EQUIPTMENT "" on our vessels at minumum each spring and hopefully before each trip !!!!!!!!!!! 5 extra min at the trailer or launch might save yer life and others.. Thanks for the story as it remindes us all it can happen even with "NEW" items as well as existing.. Ray K.
  9. Happy birthday tom , may yer axils be straight, and the sun rise in the west ,may yer tank always be full and the raiders win the bowl, may yer riggers be strong and yer probe always be with you, may yer meat be at hand and yer balls below you ,may yer braclet be strong or the waves very weak, and due to the fact i dont have time to remember all the good times MAY EVERY DAY BE A GOOD DAY FER YOU AND YER FAMILY!!
  10. HE,HE you looked!!!!!!!!
  11. make shure its big enuf for a launch to test at real speed from the boat.... PS. did ya look inside the house (rod storage) ?????
  12. I heard PARKER BOATS are banned from all fishing derbys on lake ontario this year and all NYS waters.... Bill, OU812 ,section 4, paragraph 25,,
  13. As I understand it the lead is the same dia in all cores but the outer coating gets thicker with increased weight strength...99.9% of all test (drop depth) is 27 lb test...the major lead core failure is due to sharp bends at rod tip breaking the lead and it wears from the inside out so you never see the weak spot...so Id advise sticking with the 27lb stuff handle with care and keep the drag soft as their is no strech to absorb hits and headshakes, also i use a 9 ft med action rod that gives a little (lot) of flexin to soften sudden runs and shakes..bad drag is #1 enemy of lead.....or any line as far as that goes....loosen up and enjoy the fight ...
  14. should be dooable but if the wind is up save your gas as the cold and wing willnot help cabin feaver..............logs and debree are the norm this time of year too!!!!(BIG) so be carefull ......and make shure everything is 100% cause their ant much help out there this time of year,,,,lakers are a givin catch near the bar now and pockets of fish can be found near temp breaks as small as 1/2 deg so watch the surface temps
  15. Ive fished the area early for 4 years and as capt. V. mentioned the logs are(can be) REALLY BIG .........and minefields do form at the breaks ..also many partial sunk chunks and logs ,,,, I also have encountered iceburgs in march as you mentioned calm day andboth eyes on the road aree a must,,, the modis site will give you some idea of current flow (usually) if you stay outside of it your pretty clear unless their has been a good south or east blow recently..
  16. do a search on "stop drillin" before ya try to rerair and maybe some rienforce under area if possable "patch" to cut down on flex

  20. ive got the cannons folding bout 15 yrs old pull out great for up to 4 brown rigs (spoons, stix, with up to 1 oz on each line),,not the best performance but as you said they fold easy and take little room..if you TOTALY DRY yer redwood and seal thell go for much, much longer, but if they get heavy then the dry time is longer..ps my booms are about 7 ft from waterline
  21. both have their place but the names decribe each ones underwater actions , the dypsy will sorta dip and dive (move around) slightly giving your lure or fly some extra action, and seperate your spread up to about 50 ft on each side of the boat (cover more water)....Downfall some added drag to the fight, special "RIG" (pole setup) with wire or powerpro should be used for best results ............... the jets can be used off boards with your existing rig (pole)....as far as "MY" results with both for wally, salmon, lakers, steelies. the dypsys will always be deployed behind my rig.
  22. Not to beat the drum again but on the "Proffesional" site their are many nice links to weather, derbys, lake conditions and other related sites and info... its worth the 20.00 extra a year ......Heck the info we all share and benifite from is worth the 20 bucks in saved gas and time if it helps ya get 1 fish or 10 extra fish from the info so openly shared here..As I've said also im just another member here who enjoys ,Helping, learning, enjoying(bashing friends),and partaking in some (sometimes heated) discussions, that help or our great fishery of LAKE ONTARIO ,and other related fishing spots we visit and have fun on..like today for instance im getting out the spear gun and heading to a new spot where i found some nice Hogfish, and the tickle stick for the lobster there too!!!!!(but that spot im not sharing) Sorry (baldie)
