Using Black Locust for Planner boards
ray koziatek replied to lavarock64's topic in Tackle and Techniques
well they ant gonna rot for a while....i used pine and painted they worked good for 2 13 hr days of straight trollin in a derby by the third day i could see a little less board ,but they still pulled real good, and after a good day of sun they were back to normal ,, probly used the wrong paint but used the first thing bright i found on the shelf.....cedar is supposed to be pretty good ...the pine ones i made 15 yrs ago were still usable and fine last i looked at em ..guess if boyancy was a concern id try the float test in the bathtub with one slab (edgways) .......you just gotta do the splaning to the wife how you got a splinter um down there............ -

about 7 or 8 years ago when my brother invented the tubeless mountian bike selfsealing system ,there was a flamer who knew little of what he was speeking but kept trying keep a flame towards the product,,,claiming it would never work but refused to try it to prove "his" point, Which thier was none,,well there were so many supporters it really ticked him off..his reactions were very simular to some ive seen on this topic,,,come to find out he was in his 30's living at home with his mom and his way of "getting attention"was to flame anything he could for that reason alone. regardless that there were 1000's trying this new product to further their passion for flat free mountian biking.. If my brother layed down for this pinhead looser his product would of not won some of the most prestigious awards around the world for changing the mountian bike industry,.... 1st 2nd 3 rd place in the olympic's on his wheel sets and tires was the results of trying something new(out of the box thinking) in his garage one day after getting a flat. I guess the simularity here is there are 1000,s who pay to support this fishery posably 10 of 1000,s who dont know that their is even a effort for this rule who would raise both hands in support,,.... Ive said it many times for me there are only 2 seasons not 4 per year 1 -hunting season,2- fishing season....needless to say i might have a circle of friends who share my compassion , I am shure if i made 100 calls and asked them 2 or 3 rods I know their answer,,i usually spend 100 plus days on the water per year and thats being a understatement so the last thing i want to do is decimate the lake of every fish....I have seen a hudge comeback of steelies sence the 1 per day rule on the streams ,i feel the same needs to be done on all streams in the state on all lakes for all spiecies ...as you know i could tell the facts of the things ive seen and done both hunting and fishing Im kinda one of those "see when you look " "hear when you listen","feel when you touch", and speek when you talk " ,kinda guys ,Ive learned some people will never see the forest through the trees, and life is too short to waste much time in one place . So it is with a heavy heart "has been" that i wont have time to try and teach you some common sence ..as the saying goes ya got it or you DONT.

LOC Derby $1200 per Day Boat Derby
ray koziatek replied to LOC Derby's topic in Open Lake Discussion
sounds pretty dooable and the min weight is a good way to keep a lot of 12,13 lb lakers alive and the steelies too(below 13 for the reolinda folks) the charter idea is a good wy to put some extra bucks in a trip win or not,,10 bucks a head x 4 per tripx 20 charter trips=800 for the year then the capt and crew are in for free with a little gas money to boot for a few fun trips on the slow days...............Musky were gonna have to make Mike ride behind in a tube if he wants to go. ops nick too...I guess the biggest downside is the lakers as a general rule most of us would never keep a big laker or any at all except 1 guy i know. I know the extra time and effort by the weighin sta. must be a pain and im shure you talked to them in prethinking this...But would they be ok with us calling in from the lake for up dates ONLY IF YOU CATCH A DERBY WEIGHT FISH that way maybe instead of 5 guys showing up with a 17 lb laker a phone call could give a properly released fish or more a second chance when there is already a 18 lbr in for the day. I know extra calls would be a pain ESPECIALLY IF GUYS MISSUSE THIS SERVICE JUST TO SEE HOW THE DERBY IS GOING,.but that could allow for easy cheating as someone could ice a fish and weighin the next day hoping for there fish to hold out the next day...it would be nice to see all the rules in play how this cheating can be prevented or minamized. -

NYDEC- Lake Ontario smallbass fishery
ray koziatek replied to Legacy's topic in Open Lake Discussion
If the gobys are eatin the eggs ,then from what ive read on this site the bass got there work cut out for them ,, Maybe we will have to invent a way for the bass to have spawning grounds that the gobies cant reach, also the other thing to hope for is a goby dieoff or decline (heavy fishing pressure for them from MUSKY seemed to have helped) hmm Goby Chowder. Im shure someone is doing some research on the gob's for their "weakspot" -
The oarlocks did come with the package but i didnt want to install till i figured out exact spot by sitting in it, longline I do have 4 of the big john mini plainers ,,and when did the 3 rod rule come into effect,??crap now i gott add moreholders,,handheld vhs ,,DAVE ....BIG DAVE IN A CANOE ,actually it has a 750lb capasity so your dead on with needing one for each foot.. ok some of the stuff that you cant see in the cabin,Live well(5gal pail w,pump) toilet(same pail),bilge pump,(same pail) ice chest ,(same pail),tackle storage,(same pail),trollin bag,(same pail),,,flares ,compass,3 sea dye markers, survival and first aid kitall stored ..in the (same pail) ,,,,,,,,,,,If weather permiting (wind) i will be fishing off the reef (4mi) for some of the big stuff if nuthin else ill have a fun little run about to put on my pirate outfit and pillage the 100's of keys located within 5 miles of camp..............NOW for the letcure part..Its Been a life long goal to semi retire at 52 ,ill still be active working as we all know its impossable to fish everyday ,,,due to hunting season...so for some of you younger guys and girls ,start adding up dunkin donughts, buying a soda a day or buying lunch ,learn to cook instead of going out every nite , you know the drill....ya ant gotta deny yerself or family of all pleasures but you might be amazed at the amount of money we pizz away (fishing and hunting items and trips excluded)..being self employd has had its down falls ,(excessive hunting and fishing) maybe its time to put the rod and gun aside,,,,dust off the ole carbon fiber road bike and start racing again, pump up the tires on the mountian bike and look for some hills, dig out the camping gear,,and last if not least have the wife make a very long "honey doo" list roll it up tightly dip in wax to preserve it and bring it with me everywhere i go,,,It makes a great emergency fire starter..

Here is a couple pics of my new trollin rig. you can see in the last pic how i made all 3 wood frames attach to the canoe with through bolts and wing nuts every thing just sorta clamps to the side gunnell so i dont have to drill into canoe,, it all romoves in about 30 sec with 2 guys also the little boards near the motor will be my attachment points for transducer and speedometer if i had time i would make a little bimini top hmmmmm maybe i better make time ,,,dont wann burn anything in that sun....

Sampson is nice for the above reasons and their are a few hot spots where i always get good numbers of fish .. I recomend setting anchor right off the chute dead center ,and put out a 8 rod bobber spread,,the few boats that launch there are friendly and most everyone will wave and say good morning, and youll be very close to the weigh in if you have any bobbers left so here are my secret GPS. numbers #$%%%&&((())%NORTH X!))(^^%$WEST ANOTHER SPOT IS"""%$#>>>&^(( NORTH X <<**>^^??$##@@@() WEST these areas are very productive all day ..... Other than that rouge storm that caught my daughter and I in 6ft plus waves 8 or 9 years ago (in my tri hull) ((IF WE DID NOT HAVE A GOOD WORKING BILGE PUMP WE WOULD OF SANK ))) so keep your safty equipt.up to date ...The other REALLY BAD conditions is the foggy mornings many stories were shared of IDIOTS(not you jason) running on plane in 15 to 30 FT FT FT FEET visabilty FOG with many close calls reported ....so keep er slow in the fog specially near my hot spots....

double D its >>LOU ROLL CALL<<< I started my seneca derby in 1999 from my 18 ft tri hull no riggers just sethgreens and surface rods ,havent missed one yet ...but i might add dont get too pumped up too soon or youll be emptying the bankroll before it starts ,, Ive learned some great fishing tips over the years and lost 2 fish at the back of the boat that more than likley would of won ,My sons hard fought laker lost at the net (dad was not the hero that day) and a brown that took my sethgreen rig out to the side of the boat like a L.O. salmon on light tackle,,,Tightening the drag in panic mode did very little good in stoping the fish but i did stop the line from going out .. My fishing style has changed a tad to 4 riggers plainer boards, wire rods ,copper ,dypsys ,and a fishfinder.., The "Derby Excitement" still flowes deep in my veins. Back in the day I learned all night partying makes for a late morning start , at sampson.. Now that Were in the pro /ams the seneca derby is more of a tradition tho the Excitement is still there and its always on the caledar...but them Pro/Ams are really cool ,yes 265.00 per AM boat is a big jump to get in one << , Lord Willing I (we) will be on seneca as long as i am able to crawel to the boat,,And squeeze the "mike" and give the LOU ROLL CALL .....and i hope your reel proud of yourselfs as you got me buying new secret tackle for this year.......Ill download the list.......................................................................(after the derby)

well after my quest for a good 4 hp i thought i had the perfect deal fall through.....well after doing a few normal replacements myself, pump, seals and rebuild carb......1973 yr ,I was ready to hear this baby purr,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,well at high rpm it ran pretty good ,but died below 1/2 throttle,so i turned the flywheel and had 2 hot sparks (2 cylinder) ,so im thinking (guessing)fuel pump well let me tell you them fuel pumps got some small parts and springs in there, that the untrained eye might not find (on the floor),after regreting the disassembly for 30 min i finnaly got it all back togeather ...........................same thing... So I hit "H" on my speed dial (Hank L&M charters and MARINE service )..Well he said RELAX and bring it up tomorrow (today) somehow the 1.5 hr trip took 2.5 hrs (poor roadsigns) ..He places my new 35lb 350.00 dollar anchor in a drum of water ,Then he started to rub his belly and pat his head at the same time i was amazed at this feat.....then continuing this while chanting "Pants on the ground pants on the ground, looking like a fool with your pants on the ground" he hopps on one foot in circles 3 times...then he faced the motor,, grabed the pull cord,,AND........................nuttin but the same as i had Then at the top of his voice he hollars "SPARK" ,I asshured him i did the spark plug test and strong blue spark was there,,,,,Once again i hear the command"RELAX" as he dashes to the master tool box and pulls out his spark tester thingy,,,shure enuf it was a leaky coil, (weak spark in a given rpm range)after locating 2 replacments on the majic parts shelf he rips down (with my help of course) my motor and reassembles.. after a couple tweaking adjustments its all back togeather and ready to be primed ...well 1st pull and IT CAME TO LIFE!!!!! purring like a kitten laying on its back getting its belly rubbed Opps That WAS HANK,,,,,anyways i just thought a big THANK YOU!! was in store for ole Hank for diagnosing and fixing my motor in 1/2 the time it took me to get there(without my 1 hr shortcut)..So If ya got a little motor or a big boat thats broke or could use a good going over send Hank a PM..he is good ,reasonable priced and willing to help a fellow fisherman get his toys fixed even in the dead of winter on short notice...I still dont understand how the dianastic dance helps but ill try it next time i break something... Thank You . Ray K.

Hey Lenny good job finding this post, It is a good winter project to report on all the succesfull trips folks have had with with this spoon..Im shure sence the use of this spoon many charters are saving lots of gas , Enjoying more time with their family, getting all those honeydoo list shortened up, also due to the possiabilty of tax increase they will get over cause there is no money commin in to pay it on....,,,,,, Maybe with all the negitave results we are going after too few of fish I propose to call the treasury dept. and have them print off 1 trillion paper salmon and restock our fragile eco system, OH WAIT!!!!! that would kill all the real salmon, and when all the paper ones are gone ,it will take years for our children and grandchildren to restock the lake..................

A-TOM-MIK T Shirts
ray koziatek replied to A-TOM-MIK's topic in LOU Sponsors - News, Deals, Events, Products and Services
HEY JANZ ,i seen that ,,i ant no englis pruffesor an some time i even know the rite spellin but dont proof read my post.i type with 2 fingers so now i gots the challange of both the right and left brain cell trying to work togeather ,toss in my ditlexea and my post are even tuff for me to figure out """"what the heck "" my spellin was so bad that toms crew sent me 47 shirts all small (jst kiddin) We all try to do are best includin tom and the crew And come time to replentish our FLY's and other fishing stuff Im shure we will overwhelm them again with sales ...I ordered the "buff" atomic shirt and all i got was some stick on letters ,they need to include some instructions with them ,like SHAVE BEFORE APPLYING rip ,ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh A rip ahhhhhhhhhhhhh T rip ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhO..............they hurt taking them off . And said to reapply with "gorella glue" nooooooooooooooooo -
TD i feel the 3 or 4 hund. pain plus the expense and time of getting the boat sea worthy, Its sorta the hidden cost of owning "The Boat" My team always "kicks in for all the imeadeate cost of a derby but the Riggers, poles, finder, temp probe, kicker, and all the little items (cheetos) included kinda add up........thank goodness I can do 99.9% of the work myself on the mechanical side with the helpfull advice when needed from "curly" Hank L&M..And when it gets to the specialty items Internal seals and fine engine tweaking with a trained ear and tools , I trust my boat in his care ,And a fair price (great price) at that .. He is a dying breed of the good ole days of good service at a fair price. So one way we have found to reduce the cost is to trailer every morning ,shure its not the fun of the good ole days at rainbow hotel or camping at sampson with the gang but very doable from 30 miles away (launch at severn) and get there early.. With that said It is with pride even with my tin can that i can provide a fishing platform for "our team" to fish from. She ant fast or too pretty and needs some extra (T L C) every year,But thats "MY" part of being in a team ,I could save every penny i have earned and sat home with a perfect lawn, garden ,and house but at the end of the day I would be miserable Ever sence I had "A TASTE OF DERBY FISHING"... i HAVE MEET SOME OF THE nicest , groups of guys and girls who share the passion and love of the "sea" and fishing it. When im old (even older than musky) I will be able to sit back and say RAY you lived a full life and did the things that were your hearts desire and loved every minute (well almost,, I did encounter a "shart "attack la few times ) That is a feat or life that some with big bankrolls will never reflect upon ...So give up 1.00 a day for the year and enjoy the derby without weighing in the cost, yes its there but your having a great time for the money,,,Doing something you love,,That is why you will find ""The PEGASUS"" limping along in derbys with a crew full of smiles, storyes of great, and some bad times, And if we had a good catch you might even see us on the podieum with bigger smiles (and fresh undies),,,,,,,,,,did i mention there are 4 pro/am derbys on lake ontario Hope to see you up there this year........

Brrr its getting cold in here....creek (Dry hinges) , well it appears oll ray ray was wrong again ,but it was the rulers fault sorta ya see i broke it and taped it back togeather ,,I wish I got the kind like that guy at the niagra bar was using ,If we wernt so busy reeling in fish and setting rods I would of asked him why he was measuring the lake ???? now im feeling a little guilty knowing because we were running 1 extra rod that made the difference between our boatload of fish and all those poor other guys wernt getting nuttin.....another thing that baffels me is after a strong n/e blow all the zebra mussels must get real hungry cause they clear up all the water in a couple days and the fish are gone??? some day im gonna mount a camera on a big rocket thing ,,send it into orbit and take photos of the great lakes,,,,all those zebras eating that much must create a ton of poop you could see frome orbit,,,,Ill call it a "rays poop cam" na kinda sounds like a cell phone camera after i "shart" .......Hmm "rays buffy cam" ....nope then everyone would know where"chief OMGanothershortfatbaldone" 'S happy buffy ground is .....geese this is tuff i just want to take a photo of the MODern Inner Shoreline of the lakes HEY THATS MY BAD TYPING JUST GAVE ME A CLUE ILL CALL IT "MODIS" NOW IGOT that figured out im gonna have to call these guys at this factious site that say i measured lake "w" wrong boy these idiot say 71 when i know i measured it 73 miles..... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Winnipesaukee now it warming up again... rats to slow again someone alreald mounted a camera on a big stick... http://coastwatch.glerl.noaa.gov/modis/modis.html -

Boys I think we been dupped, there ant no one that missinformed this far from Washington or Albany... I think we done , has been had by a tree hugger,or a peta member guy (or girl)...the only other post i remember this inflamatory was by that kid who was posting under his papas name.. I have heard it said many times "you cant fix stupid" and yup I was one of the guilty parties that kept stacking the wood by the fire so for some of us (all but 1 no names mentioned),know the benifits to 3 rods ,ive had fun but as mentioned above this is too easy ,but it does make the time go by a little quicker.. I think "has been " is short for we Has Been Had. -
