  1. some how i knew that was commin ,after fishing landlocks for many years i know that when you hit a school of them every rod in the boat will go off ,and they have a very soft moulth compared to kings or cohos (much like a steelie) and yes a few lips are ripped ...but if their undersize ya gotta toss em back by law even if you know they wont make it. AND LIKE 99% of us said if its a legal fish and hurt to bad we KEEP it.. Also landlocks are feeding machines and put a real hurting on anything the school encounters less forage = smaller size i dont know how big that lake is but 2700 boats is huge derby numbers about 2000 people get in the seneca derby 36 miles long 2 miles wide but at 4 per boat the number of boats is much smaller and the fish population in seneca is very heathy due to good forage, dispite the 1000,s of fish caught or released in 3 days alone. The smelt population in seneca is gone or almost non existent sence the introduction of landlocks (stocking) in the 80's and heavy treating of the streams for lamphry ells ..The dec finnaly admitted what we all knew "treatment of streams might of had a impact on smelt" when i was a kid to get a 5 gal pail of smelt took 2 dips of the net in almost every small stream on that lake ... Basicly due to their aggressive feeding they will eat themselfs (landlocks) out of house and home and it sound like them guys are sending the little ones back ripped lips and all due to size limatations ,,,,more than likley because a small but legal length one is a delicious meal...also a GOOD ETHICAL fisherman will pull his spread in a school of small ones as they are a size schooling fish,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,But I have to Agree a little with you on this one ,,That a uninformed or beginner fisherman might not have the smarts to adjust his target zone or spot and stay on the little ones ... Thats why I said Pros like you need to reach out to the newer guys and inform them of proper fishing tec. for each spiecies, I.E.-when to pull your spread if getting small fish, Proper fish handling to release fish ,,How To burp those deep water fish with a full air bladder before releasing,,,,and all the other proper fish reviving way you know to help with fish mortality rates.............Instead of harping on those of us that do that all the time as 2nd nature ....SO INSTEAD OF JUMPING UP AND DOWN SAYING I TOLD YOU SO I TOLD YOU SO!!! Show us you can help the fishery with a new topic of how TO Release a undersize fish,,,,or when its time to go in the cooler and call it a day.....Many new guys (and fish) will benifit from your ability to do research how to help the fish ,not attack the guys who want to fish more for their money... Thanks .. EDIT: lake ontario 7500 square miles,,,,,,,,,,,,,this lake above in vermont is 73 sq miles sooo if i do some fuzzy math we all would need to run 100 rods to decimate the lake ontario population of bigger fish ,someone start production of a 20 ft long 200 ft beam boat boat and youll be rich....
  2. Paul just want to be first in line,Its a throwback habbit from when he went to the mickel Jackson concerts ,get there early, practice some moon dancing,(walk) maybe run through the killer song a few times, he will have plenty to do ,I just hope its not too cold out there as he will only have 1 glove on ...................Other than Capt.Paul going through his mickel jackson routene, The Lotsa event is a good time ,good deals, and Great People, and some good speakers (and dancers) too !! I still Encourage anyone with Questions about fishing in general to start here at least understand the basics dont feel intimated here asking even the most basic questions we all started with a snoopy pole at one time (Musky still uses his) or another. Sitting in a room with 60 guys trying to figure out the "big secret" isnt the best time to ask ,what is ...FOW,...SOG...DOWN SPEED,..GPSHEADING WEST,....GPS HEADING EAST,,,FREE SLIDER,...FIXED SLIDER.,,,LIBERATOR,,,THE CAN (PLACE NEAR THE BAR TO FISH ),...THE CUP (THE FIRST GUY TO FALL ASLEEP USE HIS COFFEE CUP FOR THE PEE CUP), STACKING,SPREAD,...RUN IT 20FT BACK,,...pLAINERS ,CLIPS,,RELEASES,..COPPER,..CORE..//WIRE,... 5 COLORS,, RUN THE DYPSY AT 2.5 250 BACK..COHO RIG,,, ECT,ECT,,,,All Questions and concerns are usually answered ,but it helps you get the "big pitcher" if you understand the general terms sometimes used in the fishing community (kinda like understanding text talk)....some day we will have a LOU --dictionary of fishing terms so when you see ,,,,,, "Bald Eagle" used to describe me you will know that it really means OMGANOTHERSHOTRFATBALDONE...... Ray K. AKA-OMGANOTHERSHORTFATBALDONE.

  8. RUN rollie Run,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, heck with that ROLL rollie ROLL !!! Im shure youll regret fishing with Rod and Jeff very soon, I predict before the last PRO/AM ,you will morgage your house to buy a bigger boat,$10,000.00 in matching tackle , and your arms will be twice the size they are now (if you can beat the kids to the rods) ..Good news also I think he might be running a multipal copper setup too. So please bring a camera and take pics of all the tangles for us, ill give ya 20.00 each derby to turn the autopiolet off after the copper is out and a 5 gal pail for the tangle stuff (i get the scrape)....P.S bring your "Christian headphones translators " just in case someone on the boat hollars "GRAB THE F-----N POLE" to you it will sound like it will sound like " Bless You ROLLIE BUT that screaming reel might indacate that their is a fish on pole 4 would you please get that one before it spools us" Oh I CAN FEEL SOME GREAT STORIES ON THE HORIZION !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO THERE YA GO GUYS YA GOT THE PRO /AM DATES ONCE AGAIN SO GET A TEAM TOGEATHER NOW ,,IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS HOW TO START A PRO /AM TEAM JUST START YOU OWN THREAD AND "SOMEONE" WILL TRY TO HELP YA GET STARTED Even if ya only do one I dont think youll regret it .....hmm unless your the focus of one of the stories........

  15. welcome from your neighbor in corning...kicker is a must for gas reasons alone ..but the peace of mind is worth it too,but a 60 ft length of rope is only 30 bucks
  16. about 3 years ago i was inspected and was told handheld was the mandatory in ny ....?????????????? maybe they changed ??also at my Power squadron class 3 or 4 yrs ago also handheld was the rule...""Visual Distress Signal One orange distress flag and one electric distress light, or three hand-held or floating orange smoke signals and one electric distress light, or three combination (day/night) red flares: hand-held, meteor or parachute type."" from the coast guard site for 16 to 26 ft boats
  17. We all are aware of the devestation in Haiti. I know this is a fishing site so first I will say im sorry if I'm stepping off the path a bit. For the price of 2 spoons ,or 1 spindocter ,or 2 atomic flys we togeather can help so many in need. I know their is need all over this world and we can't save the world but this is such a desperate situation, I (we I hope) have the ability and Hearts to help. Im putting a "pole" so you can hit yes or no just for a sotra record how we can help, If you go to http://www.foxnews.com their is a list of ways to send money . The easiest way ive seen is the "Text Message Way" type the number hit send and 10.00 will be added to your cell phone bill. By using the links on fox news it is a shure way all of your donation will go to where its supposed too. It is with love and compassion that I type this ..So I'll end with another apoligy for stepping off the fishing path again. Ray K. (aka 2 less lures)
  18. Hi Mark I Am A Fishaholic IT HAS been 57 days from my last fishing fix, BUT NOT FOR LONG ... ...... Feel free to pic our brain as the "cabin fever" time of year is a good time to ask..some of us ant got much to pic from bur well give our best take some time to cruise the site (old post) but even if it been asked 100 times .someone will answer for the 101st...... Ray K.
  19. I have a alum boat with the old (87) mag 10,s ,Iwas shure I was having issues with voltage a few years back,I did the voltege check and everything was fine tho the one thing i got from the site was cleaning all my Zinc electroids or whatever you call those things on and near the outdrive... Do the voltage check its not a hard thing for anyone with a meter and a little knowalge how to use...If all is well then the problem (as it was for me) is in the mirror......I mention the 3 S's many times =speed, speed, speed, if your speed dont match your presentation being used then you might as well as do as tom's very helpful post and not put a pole on the rigger... If everyone is claiming 100 ft being the zone and you not shure of rigger depth accuracy run em at 80 fish eyes see best looking up and they can come up 20 ft in the time it takes to blink your eye if they want tho they usually sorta drift up to check out "stuff" and if your speed ant right for the weight of lure your using IE: its fluttering ,spinning,or doing nutin that fish will have as much desire to grab that spoon as you would a limp soggy salad...Unatural sent (heavy smoker , bug spray on hands is hudge) im not saying i know for a fact on the sent thing but them fishies got a nose that can find the stream they were born in from all others , oxidation might ba a bigger problem than i ever thought about , last week talking to a local trapper i questioned him why he dipped his traps in wax, he said the #1 sent (of a proper placed set ) a careful coyote will detect is "rust" so maybe i lernt why some of my old standby lures with rusty rings, and or hooks sorta died off ..Be paitent, get rid of the 80 lb mono, test your speed at the side of the boat for good lure "kick" 2.4 mph isnt golden rule for speed but most lures will perforem at this speed just to help you get in the ballpark, if you dont have a speed checker thingy (from a distance compare your speed to a charter or sucessful boat in your area) By spring youll have all the little mistakes kinda figured out ...
  20. holy mac yer probly right on the dec being understaffed ,instead of hanging out at larger marinas like "Hughes" ive seen them several time at the smaller ones like oak orchard, sodus oswego, wilson ,olcott and little salmon and salmon river the info collected at these small ports is probly about useless do to the small amount of charters and rec boats that use these small ports,i agree hughes and maybe sandy pond should be some of the larger ports they should frequent so they can get it right...very good on your observations sounds even more like the washington of today... " has been " maybe ill take back that apoligy and thanks for your Idea .....I ENCOURAGE ALL 610 OR MORE WHO SIGNED THIS HELPFUL PETATION TO CALL EVERY DEC OFFICE YOU CAN FIND AND ILL BET OL LONGLINE WILL HAVE US A LIST AS FAST AS HE SEES THIS YOU GUYS ARE GREAT AND HELPFULL IN GETTING ALL 600 PLUS MEMBERS FIRED UP TO DO MORE THAN JUST SIGN A PATITION BUT TO PICK UP YOUR PHONE COPY LONGLINES LIST AND LET THE DEC KNOW WE WOULD LIKE THE 3 ROD RULE , AND WHEN YOUR AT THE WATER COOLER HAND OUT A FEW OF THESE , IF EVERYONE WHO IS FOR SHARES IT WITH 10 POEPLE THEN WE WILL HAVE THE 100% HOLY MAC IS LOOKING FOR AND HAVE EM SIGN THE ONLINE REQUEST FOR 3 RODS YOU GUYS ARE THE GREATEST!!!!! P.S. the only edit ive done is this P.S. forgot to answer holy macs post about why only 10% responded .... Again without reposting the numbers (available to all) from the Memberlist search about 10% or 600 of 6000 members activly post more than 5 post on the L.O.U. site, so the folks with 5 or more post are almost 100% for this.. (or was it 14 cat leg answer joke)
  21. SCOTT I AGREE ON THE MONEY opps ,is better than "another rod for the winners" as most in the winners bracket have more than enuf rods ,lures ect...Ill bet a observers only door prize pile would be a cool idea well recived by the guys who observe (most are starting out and trying to learn) ,,,,this process could be sped up by having a table set up with 20 or more prizes pre draw numbers(tickets) and assign to gifts ...then at end of captians meeting display a board with winning numbers .the observer wouldof been given a ticket at regerstration table if their number matched then hand out matching gifts ,,,this would eleminate the long process of calling #305604 "hello 305604 um you guys in the back talking keep it down #305604 you get the pic. then the Quality observer line might get longer and a little more excitement for the derbys "HINT,,HINT" Door prizes for teams could be done the same speedy way ,at weigh in each day for NON placing teams after weighins, non placing teams captians draw numbers (quickly) this would keep the crowd alive till end of weighins then uncover the prize number board and some of the newer or off day teams still walk away with something ...we didnt place in the money but we got 4 cool rod reel combos ,,to some (like me and musky) this would make our derby experience cooler tho we didnt place "HINT" # 2..(but my arm is still down)
  22. Holy mac--- thier are 6147 members, approx 3950=0, have never made a post,5525= 5 or less post,,,5718= 25 or less post,,,,,5989= less than 100 post ,,that leaves 158 that have made over 100 post .....Judging from this id say many do not partake in this site other than for info or to check it out which is a great thing .. if we can help 1 fisherman have a better day on the water then all is good .....to say only 10% voted for (3 rods) is sorta ,kinda, maybe, not a totally accurate way to determin how many are for or against so if you were to say all the people who made 5 or more post are for this ,100% voted ----(YES )...I know sorta twist of numbers but i think a lot of the more active members are for the rule... I Know for a fact on my boat more shakers have bit the bullet due to my fault of draging them along without checking my spread often enuf than fish properly released...I am one of the lucky ones who almost never get skunked ,,only (1) time in 6or 7 years but i am a dark to dark fisherman as i love being on the water so my normal day of 12 hrs or more is a little excessive compared to the normal person, Guess i fall into the NOT NORMAL group. After 2 close calls in the last 10 years with the grim reeper ,my outlook on life is a lot different as i try to live each day to its fullest...so when i fish its fishing hard when i hunt its that way too,,,,,,,,, and.......oh well forget that one after 22 yrs marrage,, So for a first timer or less experianced guy or gal drop down 3 rods and increase your chance of getting Your First fish or LINE RIPPING SALMON by33% GO FOR IT..Heck now when i take out new guys im basicly just there for (two rods) and camera guy as i enjoy watching others get their first Lake Ontario Salmon or Big Fish....but im all for being called ,,,,,,3 RODS FOR ONCE.
  23. actually on this topic i think its 5 to 3 ..... to have a opinion one way or another is a good thing,if your for it or against it... Just because some dont know the proper way to retrive, revive and release a fish is not a reason the other 99% should suffer or not try to do are part in the 3 rod rule..Most who catch a lot of fish know some mortality will occure and ive pulled my lines more than once to retrive a "floater",and if it dont swim away when you get close again 99% do,ill give it a second chance at freedom or it goes in the cooler...Many would benifit from this rule if passed for the reasons mentioned basicly ,the little guy can maybe get 1 fish or at best "HIS" limit....If you spend a little time looking at charters sites you will see their are a few fish removed from the lake every year. even with 2 rods the biggest mortality occurs In my opinion from the little shakers that dont release and are dragged for a extended time. The best thing one can do is check your stuff often 20 to 30 minutes max to help minumize this unwanted result.. also most know the heavy spread is a hunting effort once the fish are located most minumize rods to effective and managable numbers to catch the pod they found without tangles.. I dont think the 3 rod rule will have the charters running 8 extra rod because they can ,But would allow some of us (most) with 1 or two guys on board to experience the Thrill Of Catching ,Fighting, and Eating their hard and expensive efforts to get their own fish......Ok maybe not a total " flame " so ill apoligize for that """IM SORRY HAS BEEN"" May i suggest if its the mortality rate that is a major concern ,,do some research, make a seperate POSITIVE FISH HELPING post on The Proper way to revive a caught fish ,how to identify the over the hill ones ,and proper fish handling if your gonna release ( I Dont Net ) i release at the side of the boat with needle nose and rarely use a net even for the big ones unless its derby or eating time for me..
  24. me guess cayuta
  25. From what little research iv done chickory is a good idea ,,,also their are "roundup resistant" a weed killer ,,hybred seeds you can plant without waiting 14 days after spraying area to kill weeds,, also most important get your soil tested for proper ballance ,,,and dont take 1 sample from 1 area take several over the area of the food at the planting depth of the seed your applying,,, also food for thought all lime is not the same as far as release rate .. "Garden" (hydrated) lime breaks down fast and is absorbed into the soil for imeadete results , and " lawn" lime takes up to 30 days to be absorbed into the soil so you wont get topnotch results during germanation...
