  1. if the dypsys are fireing and the riggers ant (with spinnys) shorten the riggers to the same length as the dypsy leader 6 to 8 ft. specially this time of year when the salmon arnt real agressive..if its whiping in a big circle they will pass it up (sometimes) ...the shorter length is critical for lakers on the pond and the fingerlakes too! I always keep the spinnies tighter than 15 ft ,with the shorter length being being the ticket this year about 10 ft. More important are the 3 s's speed, speed, speed this time of year 1.9 to 2.2 mph down speed..
  2. Forget it i ant stinking up my boats with gulp,.... the deal is off!!!

  6. I gues the 3 fish limit on ontario ant such a bad thing. Stan a properly revived salmon will swim away just as well as any other. In the past ive spun around more than once to a belly up fish, only to have the fish take off like a rocket as the boat approaches. Thats why anymore i dont use the net as soon as i unhook the fish they just dive away..now saying this most big boats (inboards)are too far outof the water to handline the last few feet, so a net is nessary..thats another reason to use heavy line 15 to 20 lb test to get the fish in as fast as possable.
  7. i dont troll that fast unles its spoons only 2.0 to 2,2 has been hot this year with flys
  8. yes rod it will work ,bring a tube if it nice the kids would love to play if you dont have one ive got a nice 5or 6 ftr wiffys heading outa town sat early you can stay at my house but its 45 min from cayuga ,,also if i dont go to the big lake i think you need to see seneca too and i can show you where there is a creek with a warm water outlet from dresden dumps in the lake it should be about 90 deg temp now
  9. you ant gonna have a dypsy left after your first big hit pulling it on lead.for the price of a dypsy ,spin doctor and fly you can buy a 300yd spool of power pro 50 lb test and land the fish too... trust me the lead will break put the dypsy on 2.5 setting and figure 3 to 1 ratio for depth at 2.5 mph,,,, last weekend pulling fly rig at 2.2 mph i was bouncing 105 ft bottom with 280 ft out with 30lb wire so if ya go slower than 2.5 it will dive 10 to 15ft deeper watch the tip for bouncing ...also keep dypsy release as loose as you can (trips easy) for much higher % hookups use a 7 to 8 ft leader between dypsy and spinny for starters and keep the reel drag just tight enuf so the line dont creep out as your trolling....oh put the fly 22 to 24 in back from thespinny
  10. 4 hits in 450 fow sounds like there was 3 greenhorns on board....shuda stayed in 100fow and got some real fish as i always say NEVER leave fish to find fish....but ive seen landshark after fighting a 13 lb king on the copper and he was more pooped out than the fish so targeting the small ones was a good thing ,or he would of overslept again today.
  11. Yes please it must be in great shape as about 1700.00 will get a new one but there are accosory packages that add up does it have seats, wood or plastic (composit) floor...you know what maybe ill drive up there tonight as arnies has the seneca series and i really wanna outfit a small boat to meet my every fishing need i have a small rigger ,rod holders, ect ect and everything needed to do some big fast fish trollin and a baracuda hitting the inflatable on retrive could put me at his level in a short time.
  12. Well if Duane feels it important or notable enuf i'll repete my thought .If you pre regester for all 3 derbys or preregester for the season(spring or summer ,or fall) derby it would be nice to fish whenever you want and take the risk of weighing in the fish in the morning.. last weekend in mexico bay when my son and i came in (sunday) the parking lot was still full of trailers and the lake was almost as full as a morning launch. For those of us who can choose our days (nice weather) we can get a satisfying day on the water tho the sunsets keep me there till then. But for the people who plan vacations to be meet with a windy day can sometimes sneak a few hours of precious derby time late in the day as the wind usually settles down at that time. there ant nuttin worse than sitting in the parking lot looking at 6ftrs after planning a vacation all year. I.m relativly new at the loc's so i dont know the reason why the rules were changed over the years so as i type this I dont mean to offend anyone who is involved with this derby as it must be a challange to keep it going from year to year. ..>.....BUT! with that said i have never had the good fortune to attend the awards ceromony so i dont know what goes on with todays technolgy but a nice online photo ,info, ect ect.. also everyweighin station must of made enuf from the derby to offer a nice 1or 2 hundred dollar (gift package) for raffles or door prizes ,I understand in the old days many large donations were made including boats , Ill bet due the the info shared on this site about ,down speed, autopiolets, tackle, ect, ect has added hundreds of thousands if not million of dollars into the fishing manufactuare industry.....many have admitted whats wire,or a dypsy,or a spindocter..ect.ect. that are now must have items on there boats..MAYBE THE LOU (US) COMMUNITY COULD DO A ACCURATE POLE AND LIST OF WHAT WE BOUGHT DUE TO THIS SITE AND INFO SHARED AND DO OUR PART OF SENDING A LIST TO THE MANUFACTUARS FOR A LITTLE ADDED ENCOURAGMENT TO DONATE TO THE PRO/AMS OR THE LOC DERBYS OR OTHER DERBYS ON THE LAKE...ok im putting my arm down thank you...
  13. arggh me looks for the evil, rachel loving,CHUMBUCKET! the dog sleeps on deck , and the dirtbag wakes to hog ther harpoon when she bows ...the dasterly dog dont know the bow from the stern and and projects off the starboard quarter when thar seas get no bumpier than me lasseys wart. claimes he can cook but the grub he puts out makes all hands on deck move like seasick waddlers, the mates have threatened the bloody death, after our monkeypuke tasting dessert.we discussed the proctolagist fly treatment after we all saw mirages that looked like green dolphins and spinning doctors.the dirtbag even took the hammer to the fly and put it in the aderondack chowder, now he sits on the plank with leadcore wraped abound his feet doomed to loose it all like the cheeting raiders...then he grabed longline swung into the vast seas ill find that greese dipping dog some day and ill run em through,,ut oh here comes the security guard gotta go..
  14. i can catch fresh fish ,keep the toilet working, cook and serve and do the dishes, and be a relief driver
  15. If i wasnt such a busy man in oct, nov(hunting) id be out there too ,but man canot live on fish alone. All fish are still in the lake even tho the adults (salmon, kings cohos) are off to happy hunting grounds.Just another thought is that at least the fingerlakes drop there level for winter in anticapation of a big runoff i think ontario gets a little lower in the winter too so just be mindfull of shallow launches, rocks when you put the boaty in specially if its a short ramp your double axle might become a single one..
  16. Glen id say nice fish but you always do well and get nice fish..For a guy from red sox country you do pretty good.(yankee fan here). now what i dont understand after my recent trip to cape cod ,why in the world dont you go after those 40"plus strippers in the bay and ocean in june off the cape and in the bay?? Next year im planning a trip up there in june if your interested, might have to drag my tin can up there and i might even give those tuna a cast or two...sorry i digressed, anyway ive always said if anyone pre regesters for the whole season (3)or season derby they should be able to fish whenever and take the chance of weighing the fish in the next day,i love the evening bite and with a bonus of seeing one of the best sunsets and sometimes moonrise , i find myself on the water near the "deadline" a lot. OK great fish too!!
  17. tyler next time after you get the fish in, hand the rookie the rod to hold so you can net it without making up some flying fish story.....Good report men..
  18. opps pm me your address and ill get em out in the morning
  19. Todd heres a pic for ya,,, got out of Mexico for a couple days with my son , Not great fishing(catching) but a good father ,son trip and he had a good time so maybe there is hope for a game boy junkie..
  20. thanks but im gonna keep on hunting for the inflatable, its 4 miles to the reef and unless its the right boat the inflatable is a tad safer if the wind kicks up... the "seneca " series by grummen with 22in deep is probly the deepest ive seen. hmmmm....John if he has a deep v have him give me a call 607 769 7947 ...
  21. 1.9 tp 2.2 was almst too fast this weekend in mexico bay area , your speeds need to match your presentation ,water temps ,fish ,moods.............but 2.1 to 2.4 has been pretty constant this year for my trips....
  22. Ya Might Wanna Save and mount that on the dash of your truck.....
