  2. Mark and Chad wee gotta get a few of us togeather for the hudson spring run 12lb line med action rods and 20 plus strippers a day (long day if you dont take lunch with you) i wouldnt mention but it is a trip we all should have on our "BUCKET LIST" ive beed doing it for 12 years so i gotts a little insite how to get a few.
  3. like icy said seperate the two just to elemanate readings error, maybe it wont interfere with the fishfinder on mounted next to each other but my lawrance does,...(i was too cheep to buy the extionsion cord for my 22 ftr).billy you should read the reviews there not to bad..... another nice thing with the hawk is the abilty to finetune(adjust)all readings so its 99.9% precise, sometimes ya gotta be smarter than the shovel.
  4. shure its a week spark and not a pluged low speed jet, usually under power a weak spark usually becomes more noticable but ize jut a plummer. id do the spark plug jump test then if ok pull the low jet and see if a piece of fuel line is in there.
  5. No wonder they passed the pfd law, now were gonna need a dress code czar.Good job guys.
  6. Burger King Get your own hat!!!
  7. Tom gets a little touchy when you talk about his laker catching. But why he takes it out on His RACH is beyond me.
  8. thanks for sticking up for us baldguys Capt. Bill!
  9. hmmmmm, well 19 ft is still a tad short to level the waves good 1 to 2 ftrs for moving very fast .. my alum.22ft cuddy cabin realy is nice old but nice 4 to 5 ft swells are very doable and the cuddy protects any water with a roagh wave, now toss in a 15 to 20 mph winds still doable but the fun is over ,even 3 ftrs with wind is challanging setting rods and maintaining good speed going into the waves but again doable if you must. but i average 800hrs a year on the water.cant help on the fiberglass but some hull designes will take the bumpy water very well. the length on either would be my main concern and a cabin will pay for itsself the first time things get a little bumpy . Mine is a sylvan with basicly flat bottom 13 deg deadrise(i think),starcraft has some nice cuddies. dont get one (Alum) overpowered a 140 hp 4 cyc is plenty might only get 26 to 33 mph out of it (depends on prop pitch and weight) but that is pretty good for a fishing boat and good fuel millage then ya got the towing thing if thats a concern with vehicle size.If i can find a nice 24 ft alum that will be my next boat ,,,,but the right fiberglass deal wouldnt be out of the question
  10. Way to go kids hope you didnt tell mike all your secrets!!! bet he MADE you use the wire(copper)
  11. K-dont let jason drive he hits all the weeds and sticks in the lake specially on your side.Good for you guys to help another boater ,ive towed in one or two over the years on seneca ,due to so many older boats and untrained boaters . but issues can happen to any of us no mater how carefull we are..
  12. From one Balguy to another welcome.Keep those feet dry for another couple weeks and get on the water the fishing has been spotty due to winds but overall pretty good, and if you hit the right day as in any stream the lake fishing can be great.
  13. I understand the drinking or drugs is bad in any counitions and i dont agree with the PFD law ,Im shure more people drown ice fishing or driving on the ice every year. But my post was to make people aware that night fishing removes one element from which we are used to when in the water LIGHT. even in warm water at night a swimming person can be very hard to see or find with a untrained search crew .Ive spent hundreds of hours doing S.A.R. work (search and rescue) and night time is tuff in calm waters throw in 2 ftrs and it more than triples the diffucalty of a rescue or spotting the person or craft. I just want everyone to be safe in different conditions (night fishing) for survival if the condition arrises ,or the non commen sence folks in albany will spend another million dollars voting on a bill that contains 200 signatures without the proper information as to how much good or bad the bill can do. My drill instructor told us the first day in bootcamp 90% of you will pay for the action of the 10% who mess up, and that lesson pretty much holds true in our daily lifes.
  14. Must be some probes go through batteries faster i have 2 (one spare) and get many, 14 hr days out of one battery ,,,,there is a tuning or GAIN adjustment knob or screw on mine that GREATLY affects the performance below 50,60 ft (lost single) or weaker batteries (lost signal) maybe you guys never "tuned" your probe to the transmitter. the adjustment can be tiny 1/8 turn can make a HUGE difference in performance ,after i called the factory and was told this might be a problem my probe works to 200 ft ,but ive never tried deeper. it went from a piece of crap to a dependable and accurate tool on my boat. but i have gone through 3 batteries for the year (on third) with many, many hours on the water.
  15. Hey Guys , With the recent PFD law it comes to mind that night fishing can also add another thought to your fishing . Two weeks ago a father of two and a wife at home passed out (sleeping) from drinking rolled off the back of a boat and drowned in Keuka lake. With many hours of night scube training and diving i can tell you that being on or in the water when dark you need 100% brain capasity ,a tackle box seen in the day might be a fatal tripper at night so a clear boat and lighting to see good on the boat should be a MUST. If you should fall in I can assure you if you are at nutural or negative boyancy you will NOT know up from down without a light on the surface. The only way to determine this is STOP REMAINE CALM exhale a tiny bit of air and feel the bubbles direction and follow them ....... Underwater in a nutural or negative boyancy you can swim down ,sideways with the same effort as up .....The moter sound will do NO good as sound travels faster through water than air and to a untrained ear (many hours in the water ) direction from where the sound comes from is near impossable. So I WOULD RECOMEND A PFD for night fishing with a survival (location) light . AS with all emergency situations STOP REMAINE CALM """THINK """YOUR ON YOUR OWNE and the actions you take in the next few seconds may detirme if you post your dilema or someone else post your Tragity..With that said good luck and hope to see some positive post to this fishing techinques....SAFETY FIRST!!!!!!! Ray K.
  16. Capt.John please tell me that trip wasnt a fluke ,the lake ontario fishing is getting a little old I know ,Iknow I like a good rip on the drag as much as anyone else but after a great year on ontario im ready for some challanging catching with a tasty ending. if the weather permits and" their there" maybe later this week ill spend a few days in dunkirk.
  17. make shure you have it in the usa or (U) setting not( I ) international had the same problem till i figured that out.
  18. If you look close you can see Muskybob down the shore with his bobber out there. They use nuts to fish with(properly aged) and we use lead balls properly coated. They sorta have the look in there eye like Fisherman after a day on the lake without any Laker sucess(or after the Bills SPANK the RAIDERS )
  19. Ok this story ant gonna be the one I promised ,But some stories of fishing need to be told. After arriving at Running Rebel boat before Capt.Jerry (surprise) I started to remove covers and getting the boat ready for a planned trip with the boys. Well as some unfamilure faces came down the dock and said they were fishing with jerry that day too all seemed well , till Jerry showed up. Well apperantly someone had a make up charter due to weather and other problems from earlier in the year. So Capt Jer started cold sweating over the whole situation and making frantic phone calls to get us out on other boats due to this arrising issue which all worked out well. I asked if i could go to help Jer with the charter and after wiping up pools of sweat off the deck we headed out. It seems the relation with this charter started 20 years before when Jerry "hooked" the father on salmon fishing. I noticed the girl had some silver vials on a key chain and asked if it was medicine ,and she said it was her dads ashes and filled me in on the 20 year relationship with Jerry. It was not a banner day by anymeans ,but everyone (5) had their turn or two on the rods. with a cooler filling ,couple rain showers and the charter nearing the end we aimed it to port for the final attempt for one or more fish. The screen went blank forever it seems then we arked 2 fish, yup we hooked up on both waking up the crew with the bonus last minute excitement. The next in line person (girls husband) sat at the helm as Jerry and I started to pull rods with our back to the crew just out from jerrys house ,1/2 mile east of port. Ihate to pull rods to end any fishing trip but it was time. With Jery getting the riggers i started reeling in the lead core stopping every few feet to sorta jigging the lure a tad and a nice fish grabed the spoon and started to tug the line . He told his wife to take the fish and in a flash she was fighting a 12 lb salmon,no big runs ,but now that i think of it i tightened the drag a tad to retrive the lead. As she is fighting the fish another of the crew said to Jerry i want to tell you something after she gets the fish in. After a long battle she gets the fish close enuf and with a swipe of the net we land our final fish. Well the charter seemed a little more excited over this fish and then the guy told Jerry and i that while our back was turned that the wife had spread the ashes of one of the vials of her dad in front of Capt,Jerry house to remember her dads love for salmon fishing and Capt Jerry for getting him started with his salmon addiction. As she struggled to hold the 12 lb salmon shaking like a leaf and tears streaming down her cheeks they took their photos of the last catch, and many hugs and emotions were shared. This fishing trip for me and the charter folks was one that will be shared many time in the comming years so thats why im writing this post.Maybe there never was a screwup in Gods plans (definatly jerrys) for that day,and the 5 hour round trip for me was nothing compared to the experiance we all sharred aboard the "RUNNING REBEL" that day. Thank you Jerry for letting me be part of that charter and experiancing a different fishing trip with a SUPER ENDING. Ray K.
  20. also if your not doing so already 1.8 -2.4 mph down speed is important.....2.1 to 2.4 is my target zone but a little under or over should work just experment a tad you will know when you hit the speed the fish like for that dayzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzz(drag),also the 22in is a better length fer me any where from 6 to 15 ft off the ball...and did i mention speed?????? and of course proper down temp 57 deg--48ish this time of year also fish will swim up to a bait (so ive been told) more so than down so keep spinny in the upper temps and cover the the rest with spoons
  21. Ok iceman ,maybe we have a LOT more in common ,likeCOMMON SENCE .thanks for the post ,P.S. now that you have posted this it is asked by the current Washington ddddebockles that our names be turned in on the whitehouse website for possable investagating ,so be shure to carry "YOUR PAPERS" with you in case the Gistopo catches you trying to cross the" town line "... hommingbird out.
