follow up question in regaed to my cannon depth probe
ray koziatek replied to stealhead4748's topic in Tackle and Techniques
wow i ant no expert on this unit and have heard of blowback issues if you did 160 for 110 down your speed musta been way off or towing a sea anchor behind the ball... some times when i fish deep ill run just a spoon behind that rigger ,but even with a flasher (8") and fly I only needed 130 out to reach the 110 ft depth with a 10 lb weight at 2.4 mph down speed, but no coated cable either (FISHHAWK) -
Jerrys wife said after he heard that country song that has the phrase "ride a cowboy save a horse" He rushed to the neatest hat shop and bought that one!! The problem (or not) is a lot of people who ride horses are " MEN " ...If he changes the name of his boat "BROKEBACK CHARTERS" I guess we'll know what species he is really TROLLING for.

Any tips on how to loosen the gear oil drain plug??
ray koziatek replied to adirondackice's topic in This Old Boat
get a PROPER sized screwdriver (big) if you have already stripped the head a bit take a small scribe and try to freshen the slot for a good fit .as your pushing in tight with the screwdriver just about to srtrip the head again have a 2nd person tap firmly on end of handle with plastic hammer or small hammer just dont try to drive it through at the same time as your twisting the screw head(slot)..it should pop free -
Wish i had some great news. Just got off the phone with "POPS" Musky he has had a mild stroke......right side 100% ok. left side gonna need some work(rehab) has 95% use of left side but numbness is got a few spots in question. After another battery of test today the final results still wont be known to him till tonight when the doc reads and evaluates todays test. He is taking it like a "trooper" with comments like "thats part of growing up" ...........Normally to talk of such challenges in life one might say lets keep this private , But i feel sharing our feelings with and about MUSKYBOB is like talking about one of our own family members (the one who wears stripped shirts). So as these things go day to day is the only way to face this. Bob has a great spirit and willingness to fish among other things so im shure he has all the right stuff to beat another challange thrown his way.....we all have his PM address so any words of private encouragement can be directed to him that way. I think he said ST,LUKES hospt. in utica rm. 365 is where he is at. he feels they might send him home tomorrow.. SO ITS day to day for now ill keep his L.O.U. family updated ..... PLEASE KEEP THE PRAYER'S AND THOUGHTS DIRECTED BOBS WAY FOR A FEW MORE DAYS (and his family too!! the kind words spoken allready will mean the world to him so feel free to keep posting on "The Prayer Topic" post it will give him something to do when he mounts the keyboard soon... Thank You Lake Ontario United for allowing me and others to meet such a great bunch of fishermen .and down to earth good people. Ray K. P.S humor is part of his life so dont feel bad about any funnies you put in his post he might be a little down but not out so keep polking a little fun till he gets out then its full bash ahead..... P.S. just looked up hospital and room number still no results as of 9:03 am wed. he is still a little whimpy but is working early on his physical theorpy with the nurses (women) he keeps from being slapped by stating "opps another spasim" then they remind him that he grabbed them with his good arm..

30#Ande popping out of release
ray koziatek replied to chowder's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I dont know thats its wrong just never done it that way myself and have read here it could help with cable tangles on deep water fishing. I suppose with some of the horror stories posted that it might help keep the pancakes from drifting all over under the boat.Mine was used once with a 3 rigger mess and hasnt been any problem from that day on sitting in the basement..someday ill break it out again and melt it into a fish weight. -
Sean, try the spinnies 4 to 6 ft off the ball and see what happens with the lakers..

30#Ande popping out of release
ray koziatek replied to chowder's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
cHOWDER,chowder, chowder, never hook release to back of weight it can steer weight and cause tangling so ive heard. the dia. of 40 lb line causes huge difference in amount of line drag ya gotta get some "blacks"style release for deeper water fishing and flasher pull .now are you using panacake weights or cow chips they look very simular the biggest diff between the 2 is the taste. -
Really uncool practical joke against Team Salmonbound
ray koziatek replied to Raaven's topic in Open Lake Discussion
What do you mean a lot of looks and no responses, i always try to find a funny spot in a post and their ant no funny here ! All i ask Capt. Bob if you find who did this please take before and after pics so we all can enjoy the trial by fisherman (big fisherman). 30 years ago i was warned by my brotherinlaw in flordia not to go near crab traps cause it was considered a mans livelyhood and you might get shot and end up as bait in the traps, Well chartering is the livelyhood of many charters on ontario so trial by sea may be justified......And if the culprit survives they should be BANNED FROM ALL LAKE ONTARIO PRO AMS OR ANY OTHER DERBY ON "OUR" LAKE. -
As we all sit here winding down and relaxing ,our good friend, POPS..Musky bob is laying in the hospital today after suffering severe Tingling in his entire left side (not from nobama)..Possable stroke(light) or some pinched nerves due to riding out the 3 to 5 ftrs sat in the pro am....he said the nurses are cute and very friendly (hope they were female) the docter hasnt been in yet tonight for prognosis from todays test . They well be doing all the stroke related test tomorrow so we need to PRAY FOR LONG NEEDLES , AND POSITIVE TEST RESULTS THAT WILL GET "OUR" MUSKYBOB ON HIS FEET AGAIN,ok skip the long needles part, I ant no Bible basher but do belive in the power of prayer. So lets give the Lord thanks for what we have, and for the test on Muskybob to not show any serious condition...I love him like my 2nd DAD, and hope we all can find a moment to ask for guidence ,thanks, and a safe Musky. THANK YOU RAY KOZIATEK

clean the cow poop out of those swivel things before going fishing,,,dont know why your getting any more twist with a mag dyspy unless the fleas are getting in the bearings ,,,if your getting broke off between flasher and dypsy thats the spot where the tail beats the crap outa the line as they swim away during the big runs and must be checked every fish ..i use p-line floura clear ..Not flouracarbon its been said here 100 times flouracarbon is more brittle but i ant no physisis...and...yup i use those stupid snubbers that give my line and knots a little "cushion" expecially when them big boys rip at your rig on a 500 ft run at 1000 tailbeats per minute (approx never counted)...BUT hey im justa plummer and play in poopy end results of a sucessfull fishing trip.(gotta break that nail bitting habbit)

Welcome cast a way looks like you drifted onto a good Island (website). If you dont get a good repert here after a few days sink your boat cause there ant no fish in the pond. If you look real hard some good ones from the sodus area should be popping up.Many coolers took 4 guys to carry (fish coolers )took 6 for the beverage cooler.

has been at the end of the (or startof) the awards cerm .at sodus in the tent near new abes shop today

How many HP actaully is my Mercruiser? Prop pitch question?
ray koziatek replied to Gotta Bite's topic in This Old Boat
im suprised the id plate on the engine doesnt have the info (if there is a plate) both of the 4 cyc ive had ,were marked with all the info pertaining to that engine.I dont belive there is a pitch per horsepower way to figure out what prop to use ..its more rpm to weight ratio , heres a example my 120 hp with 1 or two people in my 22 ft alum w 4riggers (20lb ea)5 10lb balls,1 kicker bout 100lbs,36 gal fuel about 200lbs,100lbs tackle, and safty equiptment, 50 lb cooler...will go 30 mph at max rpm 4300 ,BUT throw in MUSKY AND JASON another 500 lbs and it struggles to get on plane in smooth water and forget getting up if there are 2 ftrs.. (17 pitch prop) .after going with the recomended 15 pitch prop from Hanky (L&M) with the lighter load (2) people it pops on plane much faster but will only do 26mph at 4300 rpm with plenty of throttle left to go but i dont want to exceed (blow up)mfg recomended rpm"s. with 4 people it still gets on plane very fast still doing 26 with plenty of throttle to go... here is a general rule of thumb i learend in the 80tys when i was doing the Jet Ski thing... 1 deg pitch =2mph loss or gain thus i lost 4 mph by going with smaller pitch at 4300rpm..,also 1 deg of pitch =200 rpm change .....thats why i have more throttle to go after reaching 4300 rpm,,, So when i got the big boys (musky, jason)on board for the derbys ill run the 15 deg pitch,if im running a lighter crew(me) then i will stck the 17 deg pitch so i can feel the rush of 30 mph wind in my hair (both of them)and my back, and get off shore to the secret (buffy grounds) fishing spots quicker.. -
the good news CONGRADULATIONS you two...the bad news you are now a pac mule ,playpens, strollers, diaper bags, pooooopy diapers...(moody wife)..just dont blink or they will be all grown up..the fish will be here then, start a savings account for collage now but dont tell her ,cause if she decides not to go then you can buy a new boat with it..
