  1. 20 lb to the spinny and i ALWAYS RUN A SNUBBER .it ant the snubber its the dypsy trip i also run wire or powerpro to the dypsy i feel the mono dypsy setup gives the fish a few more shakes than i want (streach) tho some run it with good results ... also running powerpro or wire i feel the dypsy get more action due to surging rods in a nice chop ..other than a recent 4 hr day on erie i can still claim i ant never been skunked on the fingerlakes or greatlakes in 7 years but ive come close a few times.....
  2. YEA those big browns(bulldogs) can cover more horzantal water than a king salmon sometimes. 2.6 to 2.7 mph will get the faster fish mooving but 2.4 will keep the lakers active .Kinda miss the summer bite on seneca but the fingerlakes fleas, jet ski's,and screaming (salmon)runs of lake ontario keep my intrest just a little north of them. as far as the dec creel survays(volenteer book) ive caught more landlocks in a day than they post for a season.just reading the post here gives you better ideas of real numbers from the few boats who post...multiply that by 200 regulars who dont post or do survays and you got a good fishery in our back yard... (for some 18 mi for me)...nice report!!!! P.S. Jason couldnt catch a fish in a barrel with a stick of dynamite if i dont tell him every move.
  3. stack the riggers at 15 ft seperation on each rigger then stagger your rigger depth by 5ish feet then you got for example 60 ft,55ft,45 ft,and 40 ft coverd then the sliders will be in the steelie ,coho range.. deeper rod foward and shallower back , that way you can still run sliders if needed(shallow rods only) 2 dipsys and your set usually the stacked rods are slower bite but i feel it helps bring fish in your spread(school of lures)try to get all your spoons close to the same length back for a tighter school appearence..25 to 40 ft length ...IMPORTANT keepthe boat straight as your setting riggers past the dypsy lines or youll hook into them every time remind the driver everytime you set your better off waiting 3or 4 min for your spread (dypsys) to get into position rather than spend 30 min untangling lines....not to mention "killing" your spread...a good TEAM can get the dypsys(4) cleared with no problem but a few new guys can make a mess outa 4 dypsys and a good rigger hit clearing rods not to mention 30.00 a pop everytime you cut one dypsy into another..even if it dont cut through you can have a time consuming tangle and re tying dypsys due to freying or kinks....i like to keep it simple and fun ....trust me 30 min untangling ant no fun (so ive heard) and loosing your favorate spoon or setup is as painfull as loosing the 25 lb fish that took it....
  4. what he said( CB ) start at 55 deg and stagger down for salmon or up fer steelies...a feeding salmon can cover (move up) at 264 ft a min or 4.4ft per sec(i think) so if your 20 ft above a hungry fish that 16 sec run to warmer water ant gonna bother him (or her) ...but me math is as bad as me spellin or is it 9.77777776 sec? (at 20mph) that ant right either comon longline i need some help here!!!!maybe more like 1.o sec ok a human can cover 33.33333 ft per sec (100 yd dash record)so .9 sec is about how long for a 20 to 25 ft strike....maybe???? IM GOING TO WORK!!!
  5. the observer is not allowed in aNY WAY SHAPE OR FORM IN HELPING A TEAM. he must just due his duties assigned ...(or sleep ) ...unless of course there is a emergency (life threating not a tangle)
  6. nylon, like nick said id rather spend 30 sec removing a couple snags rather then talking the rest of the day about a "bad"net job on the one that got away. Also get a good 2 pc handle that extends 7or 8 ft and the 6 sided handle (not round) makes the little round thingy pop into the hole as handle is extended if its a round handle you gotta hunt for the allignment hole (not a issue if you leave your net in a holder i always breakdown and get out of way between uses)
  7. justin once the massive bait wads show up the bite can really get slower on the south end.many people make the mistake of fishing the bait and your competing against several tons of fresh smelling bait.ive scuba dove into balls of bait before and even at my slow speeds i could move into a ball of bait and almost touch them,so any healthy fish is pretty well topped off ..move outside of (north) these bait balls. For those of you who have never seen the seneca bait as it stackes to spawn it is not unuasual to see "clouds" of bait 75 to 150 deep over 200 fow and up to 1/4 mile long. Also J this time of year most of the lakers are migrating north tho they are basicly everywhere all the time. And the bite seems to go from a all day bite to a few hour "window" as summer and temps increase.. And they start looking for that 100ft plus depths to hang out. 80- 126ft is the normal summer depth to target ..next jan. through may you need to get the boat ready for some cold temp fishing then ill show you some fish numbers that will change your thinking and learning curve ...P.S keep that dypsy release soooooo loose it almost trips on it own and say goodby to dypsy shakeoffs...GUARENTEED!!!
  8. or 5 spoons ,you cant have more than 5 even if there single hooks (5 points)
  9. NO! i fish seneca all the time with factory flys 20 to 40 fish days (lakers) are the norm till the lake warms some do you use dypsys?
  10. the heavier leader supplied is supposed to give more whip to the fly but probly aslo gives a little more strength against a tooth or two.before the second hook (stinger)days my hookup ratio was still very good most stinger hooks now do have the greater hook ups but i feel that is due that many salmon spank it from the side and the front hook does most of the hooking. removing beads might be your biggest problem as the fly tail is beyond the hook instead of the other way. also the bead / fly color is very important as a attracter so when you start removing or changing you might get a better setup but people like attomic ,siggs, and big weenie have a lot of guys testing colors and setups before we ever see the "newest pattern" other than maybe adding a red bead ahead of the other beads id leave well enuf alone...its been figured out long ago and thats why your paying 5.00 each (plus)for a good fly.also everytime you put a flasher fly out lay in water at surface and be shure everything lines up before setting out your rig.and dont overtighten drag enjoy the fight with smooth rod action and just enuf drag to move the fish in ,sharp hooks and a snug release should help your landing ratio. if you hook up and get a good rip (run) and loose the fish with consistancy as your bringing in the problem (sorry to say)is a overagggressive fisherman on the other end...
  11. i tried there ant know teaching you.:how to use leadcore....put on lure ,,,,let out line,,,wait for another rod to fire and reel the lead in at max speed so nuttin get into it...thats all there is to it..(or leave it in the cabin)to save time

  13. UGGH stay away from erie for a few more days came home early after south blow surface went from 64 deg to 58 deg today then the n/w started and 4 ftrs were the issue with more rain and wind.4 days and 1 walley and 20 junk fish, but barcelonia was getting good with 20 fish weighed in on tuesday ps we were in 3rd place overall with that one fish i thought we were in top ten so comone wind
  14. Whoe! I've been gone for 4 days and now i find out people can make a error or mistake! First its Monica, then Bush,( (Mr.President George Bush) then came the worst situation with our newest supreme leader ............(where is my rug) NOW the beloved Pro Ams volenteers have errored in there paperwork..OH WELL I GUESS THE PERFECT SAULUTION IS EVERYONE STAY HOME AND FIND FAULT WITH THE WORLD...DID I JUST SAY THAT ??????LISTEN the reason i hunt is to get the big one (buck) and if i dont i still had a GREAT time in the persuit and will try again next year and trust me it ant cheep to buy all the stuff to hunt with and travel to Indiana but the time spent with my hunting friends and the experience of the hunt will always be with me even if i come home empty handed. When i head to the lake to fish with my fishing buddies the time spent and catching is my reward for the 200.00 in gas it cost me not to mention boat ,and tackle cost.....When I(we TEAM L.O.U.S.E.R.S) get in a pro am derby ,we get to meet the great friends we talk to online who share the competative nuture in so many of us to compete against each other , share fishing stories (mostly the funny ones about musky bob) we have, and if the fish gods shine on our boat for that derby we get to stand tall and win a few bucks and some tackle too.......but even if we go home in last place we still have had(and we've been close) THE WONDERFULL EXPERIENCE AND THE STORIES TO TELL OF THE GREAT THINGS WE SHARED AND DID IN THE "LAKE ONTARIO PRO AM's DERBY's ...........SO ILL SAY IT AGAIN IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A GREAT TIME FISHING WITH , AND TRYING YOUR LUCK ON THE FISHING SLOT MACHINE OF THE PRO/AM's , GET A TEAM TOGEATHER AND HAVE A GREAT TIME . iF YOU HAVE A WAY TO help the derby "volenteers " do so and if you have a concern try to find the right answer then bash where needed. and hey all the prizes ant gotta be tackle so if you know someone who can donate a nice flashlight set, tools, battery, womans lingerie(honey look what i won ) ,red lobster meals(more salmon mmmmm)or any other MAN gifts or wifes gifts(maybe thell let us go more if we bring home a nice fruit arrangment) or gift cards, step up and give a hand . But hey me justa plummer.....(anyone need a shiny new plunger?)
  15. Capt john the fishing is slllllooowww only caught 1 fish for two days(the bad news) .......the good news is it is 10lb11oz and intop 10in derby back at it today
  16. i see musky was smiling and it looks like the observer is at the wheel, throw the cuffs on the captian pete
  17. FF there are 2 catg. of fishing read the rules to see the diff. ie:all teams with captians licenes must enter pro,$500 pro $265 am,any team can enter pro if there is enuf slots to accomadate them ,pro 8 rods max ,ams 6 max,pro 15 place payout, ams 10 places thats the biggest diff i can think of..many ams could do well in the pro div due to pay structure .any one can win in our first 4 pro ams we placed 2 times so there is the proof ,as you know the lake and fish can change daily so if you hit the hotspot your golden and if you come in last you make 50 others teams feel good about not taking that spot .......regardless its a Great Time (except those 4to8 ftr days)you will meet some great guys (like me ) and you will learn some good tips to catching .Everything from the 50 boat start to the weigh in to the final awards are pretty cool even if you dont catch a fish there are some great raffels you can buy tickets for and if you dont sit in the corner you will have a good time as for me this year i have to follow Capt. Billy V's lead and do some family time.but the ol ball and chain is letting me do the osweago derby(pro am).It was a very intimadating experience for Us the first time but with some serious fishing and lors of fun it has been some of the best experiences on the water fishing the Pro/Ams...I have ever had even the 2 nd from last Scotty....now you all know the drill GET OFF THE COUCH,GRAB A HANDFULL OF SPOONS ,GET THE SNOPPY ROD OUT THROW A FEW GUYS TOGEATHER AND GET INTO THE LAKE ONTARIO PRO/AM DERBYS................Youll never look back...................Ray K.
  18. EVEN THOUGH 10 LB IS PLENTY the wear and tear of knots and release will catch up to you with a good hit ...15 lb min maybe 17lb max will put that fish of a life time in the net ,better safe than sorry plus if your intentions are to release the fish you can get it to the boat quicker with less stress of a longer fight

  20. Hey Its my Bushes fault that this bill has been passed!!!I stood my ground in Washington in the 1 man march and was barly noticed cant say i didnt try..now im gonna have to paint my boat with low reflecting radar paint and launch from various ports as not to set a(balding) pattern. Now if i could get some of bidens low profile hair plug implants to cover my solar panel (bald spot) that would help. Maybe i could send some shower drain hair(winter coat is shedding)to hillaryous she could have a hairpiece woven in afganistan when she goes there to help support their troops and bin laben.maybe ill get a blowup doll of nancy polisi to lay next to me ,that would keep every United States Of America loving citizen at least 5 miles from my boat and id never get turned in.....HMMMMM now i gotta figure a way to hide from that modis camera without clouds out.,,,,,Maybe ill have my wife sew a small sail on me and i could pass as a blow boat saving us from my hugh carbon footprint(or stop eating beans) Thank you everone for your support and concern as to another attack on our rights to buffy fishing. one day well all have To have windmill powerd tanning beds hidden in our bomb shelters.Gotta go for now just signed up for dancing lessons and im late and havent picked out anything to wear yet....oh wait im already naked.Wanna See?
