OK >GB. now ive been fishing a few years and reading just a few post over the years (12,237),now other than post about "thumper rods do work" ive maybe seen 5 post of getting the fish on the thumper..i suppose if you dont have riggers ,or boards,or dypsy,or copper and lead, then you might wanna get a thumper rig.if you fish alone it will(could) give you grief on every turn with riggers out if you have em .not to mention hooking a object on bottom and pulling your spread before you spool your new rig.after reading yourlead experience i just hate to see you get fusterated trying to set up another rig ....youfigure out what rod you want and reel and ill give you a s close a match as i have stacked in the basement ill even pay shipping all for free you cheap bas%%#@(frugal). i might even have a spool of power pro for you or some kind of line.Id be happy to help you out....

tie line direct or use a snap on spoons?
ray koziatek replied to Knotlost's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
every knot is another weak point one snapswivel on 20llb test give or take a few lbs is all you need..a swivel (even the littleones ) will eventually give you greif when under the load of a fighting fish or worse yet when the fleas slide to that point fishing browns in the spring you will get away with it ..most kings have one thing on there mind food so what is front on it dont matter within reason(diesel).line twist =premature failure ..just pull a spinny with flea flicker for a hour and get a nice hit and youll see what i mean.. -

choooooo short for choo choo i was a 20 yaer old silver star spoon no longer made sorta green glo. im shure the inside waters would of been hot with bows and cohos but i needed a king fix,i also ran a old purple glow that took every fish on 1 rigger , the watermelon grape dot fired twice till a big boy took it home to show to his buddies, another spoon to the fish gods, R&R spoon .getting a hit that soon was a good day starter and i let it go with a holy lip as i keep very few fish (except stripped bass)in the hudson, and rarly touch then as i dont use a net (that keeps the boats away) and can release without descaling them in the net ...i would post a pic of my secret spoons but i broke my camera ps i started out in shorts and ended up in nuttin wanna see?? -
my 87 islander has seen lots of water and this year 2 rivets finnaly loosened ,but i trailer 5000 miles a year and fish every conditoin so a lot of flexing is going on. a good visual and overall cond. and HOW IT WAS STORRED AND USED will be more of a determing factor to overall cond....i fish lots of diff areas from the hudson to lake erie so alum is great for towing(light) and great on gas 4 to 5 mpg on water at cruse speed 3 mpg running it harder 22 ft length will make your ability to have less blowoff days and a cabin will help protect you when 5 ftrs are splashing over the bow.the lower deadrishe of alum. (sorta flat back without much "V" to them) give it a bumpier ride if you need to run in 3 ftrs(dont) and they side slip more with a cross wind due to this and being light ... but like i said long trailer trips are much better .the second concern with improper stored or older boats is the floor if its soft or musshy you got a 2 week job replacing and another 1000 bucks doing it yourself.... so a good visual and (knowalagable friend ) will tell you all you need to know if the moter and BELLOWS are sound.....if the 17 in prop is worn to 10 inches, the oil in moter is black and there are more splices in the electrial system with black tape than not you might stay away....also a good trailer is a MUST a new trailer will run you 4000.00 ish with dual brakes and sitting along the highway on a burnt out bearing or spindle or rotted flats will not make for a good day fishing with your X friends. A great deal on a boat catch very few fish on rt 390... so your buying a package one that is as important as just the boat . sometimes 8000.00 is cheeper and more fun than 2000.00

yes ....twenty years ago..... this is a normal occurance on any big waters (deep waters) lake ..but thank you for bringing it up again as many new guys need to arm themselfs with every bit of info and to what might be going on to there favorite temps .this can make a difference to brown fishing the shore in august after sustained strong south wind,,, to dropping stuff down 120 ft to find cold water after a north blow 3 days later that is why a good temp probe or radio or fishing network is needed to fish the great lakes...we already got the network thing here with the reports and info like you just shared so old hat to some of us and a new topic to many... thank you for sharing Ray K.

(Your Name) : Fishing Report ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): (fishing date here) Time on Water: (8:00 AM – 4:00 PM) Temp/Weather: (85°F and sunny, overcast, rain, snow) Wind Speed/Direction: (NW at 8 MPH) Waves: (1-2 Footers, Calm) Surface Temp: (72°F) Location: (fishing location) LAT/LONG: (GPS Cords) =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: (0, 5 10, etc.) Total Boated: (0, 5, 10, etc.) Species Breakdown: (3 Kings, 2 Bows, 1 Brown, 5 Lake Trout) Hot Lure: (NK28, White Spindoctor with Green A-TOM-MIC Fly) Trolling Speed: (2.1 mph) Down Speed: (1.8 mph) Boat Depth: (200 ft) Lure Depth: (80 ft) ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== (add pictures and any other details not captured above here) First of all Chad i cant read them small letters let alone try to figure out how to post with them..... the 3 rd i put in at the oak and drove the 18 miles to 30 mile point set up and fished for a couple hrs got 2 kings 12 lb and maybe 8 lb was more into checking temps ,and looking for the green water .....which i never found but did pass over many pockets of varieng temps water that are great for the cohos to be ,just alone and not much time (got on water at 3pm )i just droped a couple rods for kings..got a call from Jerry (running rebel) to stay at the cottage they rented in olcott it was a tuff decion over sleeping in the boat but i went with Jerry .little did i know till bedtime there was only one bed we could use in the place all the other 5 had little signs "out of order"on then so after a nice steak dinner with jerry and i discussin fishing and Larry on his prayer rug in front of the tv bowing to a report on Nobama ..Larry kept repaeting his vigelante prayer (better than the bush years) ,we all crawl into 1 bed looking like Larry ,Jerry ,and Moe (me) .well it was poke city till i could take no more and went to the couch. Then fisherman calls at 12am so trying to be polite i tex him with no reply with my alarm set for 5 i zonk out till 4 am when fisherman calls again stating he was lonly still and beged me to take him fish but with the knowalge there might be a slight ripple on the water (he gets seasick)i said NO. set up in 50 ft water 40 down and before the 12 th rod er i mean 2nd rod hit the water a 24in 5 lb steelie takes the bait in gives me my first tussle 45 sec into my trip. great temps and the ever precious green water kept me on 1 waypoint for the next 9 hrs and just ask Motoman that ant my normal style but every other boat in the area stayed away for a great day of Buffy fishing. And catching did 1 more steelie 8 lbish on fly W/onW and picked away at 13 total fish for the day with 4 short hits.. couple calf. fish (skippys)five derby(pro am) size fish and a few just under . it was nice to hog the rods again (i was alone) keep the boat STRAIGHT(i was alone bob) no major tangles (i was alone) proper SPEED (you know the bash er i mean drill) But i wish the team was there to run more than 2 rods (wasnt totaly alone the dec cops were out there )and im shure we could of trippled the catch (or at least hookups Nick) so if you want some great catching OLCOTT is hot right now just be carefull as the Pro /AM is going on and the waters will be busy to say the least. It is with a happy Wife and heavy heart i wont be doing the next 2 pro ams .........So As I always Say DO YOUR SELF A FAVOR GET INTO A PRO AM OR TWO OR FOUR IT IS GREAT FUN AND YOU GET TO MEET SOME EVEN GREATER FOLKS WHO LOVE FISHING AND ARE WILLING TO SHARE THERE SECRETS (after the derby ) ..........Maybe i post the" Rest of the story " and what really happened at the corner cottage such as Jerry making 10 trips in the morning with 1/2 full beer bottles from his boat to the trash can (he doesnt drink) and it wasnt beer in those bottles...or how jerry and Larry spent the afternoon in the park pushing each other on the swingset instead of PRE FISHING................ -

yes the curl is normal just use caution NO kinks some use rubber band to keep tension during storage but i just reel to the tip and leave a little tension on it . you might consider P -line floura clear only 10.00 for a full spool .Im shure anything Tom sells is a proven and many times tested product hmmm maybe i should try to get on his research department..there is some newer wire comming to a store near you that is supposed to be more forgiving ,softer, and less curl...on can only hope.

Snagger,so whats the going rate for JOHNSON fishing nowa days, what about the run last year seems like every year latly either ive hit the right few days or the run has been going nuts for hours straight ..the cohos are still fewer with 1or 2 hr a day spurts.i cant iagine how many steelies must pile up in there after the salmon run the numbers on the lake (steelies)has been unreal , now with all the atlantics being reported ther will be some great aerial fishing soon .If you need any instructions how to catch river salmon give me a shout .....i.could use a good point man on the river to save the 3 hr drive when they ant in...my lips are sealed....................
