good job ,3 years ago after fishing post creek for my whole life 52 yrs i finnaly got one of those big boys 24 in almost 5 lbs. on salted minnow it put up a great fight on a ultralight i almost let it go but it engulfed the hook and ripped a gill,im kinda glad it did as it hangs on my wall now .....ill try to get a pic posted to share ....mine was the same situation several 19 in fish were following minnow and he couldnt stand it and came in from the side and smashed the minnow from in front of them...that was cool to watch the whole thing would of made a great video.

hi i am a fishaholic its been 2 days sence ive been fishing i was diagnosed today with P.F.D.(post fishing disorder).I am sorry to hear of your up comming loss of savings.the only advice i can give you is to tie yourself to a pipe in the basement try the polamar or trieline as they hold well ! Keep your filet knife handy if you feel the overwhelming urge to get your fix i have over 1000 spoons and have a name for them all ,I am normal ,I am normal I am normal brb gotta respool a reel>>>>>>>............

FS i do tend to digress just a bit ....watching some of those fishing shows some times they do a line test segment and most good line and knots hold up to max breaking strength with steady pull .im shure what you said is about right for the hammer and head thrashing of a fighting fish but on a rocking boat and sticky drags(okuma)opps (older ones)its tuff to remeasure drag after each change. i sometimes use my drag to lower riggers so a quick tug test works fer me after the rod is set.though its one of those learn as you go tugs and watching the rod bend and just before i go over the back of the boat i loosen the drag.

when ive seen this on tv the crew sets the drag straight off the reel no rod bend (2 guys) but they use 700.00 reels so the drag is always the same.there ant really a formula for most 100.00 or less reels just tighten your line and give a slight pull after your depth is reached if you can pull line (couple in) then your good to go if you cant move it a king will be showing off your lure to all his buddies. if its a big one you can tighten a little as your spool thins hopefully by then it will be getting tired and slow down as easy as it is to say DONT turn the drag too much and even do the pull thing if it stops just to make shure you didnt over tighten......but if your running 17 to 20 lb test you should almost never break your line .keep in mind 99%of broke lines are due to cheep line, nicks,BAD knots or abbrasion from fishes tail as he swims away .its your only connection to the fish so red tag .99cent a spool ant a good idea i like P-line but any good brand will work dont get hung up on low memory, soft and silky or invisable for kings they be looking at one thing and thats the bait.trial and error is the best thing for you but this will get you in the zone.one more thing to test your knot if you can lift a 10 lb ball (carefull of hand and lower and raise a few inches off the deck your knot is goor thr polymar is easy and good the line tie is good too but one bad wrap can or not wetting line to tighten can give you a bad knot

set up? Your opinions
ray koziatek replied to slapshot's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
with the colder temps still run some stix off the board 100 ft back with a couple split shot for a littlemore depth cohos, steelies love the surface bite on calm days thats when the bugs hatch and if you pay attention you will see them hiting the surfach even in the middle of the lake .put your stackers 15 ft up and stagger your rigger depth so you cover more water50 on one and 45 on the other then you got 50 45 35 and 30 covered just a thought to cover more water then target in on the hot zone ifyou change to the zone and it shuts down go to orig set up as sometimes the spread brings them in to the hot spoon its not uncommen to have 1 hot rod due to total setup so if that happens dont pull everything and go to 1 color .unless its the boards then get a close match to each pattern -
Ok i know i just saw a simular post but could not find it to check answers ,but here is what i have discoverd this weekend. After SOMEONE lost one of my 5 yr old FAVORITE dypsys ,I had to dig a new one out of the box.I did my usual trip with finger adj and even triped it many times with little twitch of the rod. The answer was too easy the trip setting was too tight .now after 7 yrs fishing dypsys i loose very few fish After the hookup and in the last 2 years ive put around 1700 hrs fishing time which translates to the equivelent of 215 -8 hr. days on the water which is a good amount of time for a rec. fisherperson(not enuf for me). After reading so many post about people loosing the fish on dypsys i took my turn with about 8 fish lost this last weekend (LAKERS)Head shake. Now my dypsy rods are the 10ft 6in broomsticks ugly stix,i use a snubber, with 8 to 10 ft of mono to the spinny. At speed 2.4 to 2.7 mph they do bend about 2 feet back and give the dypsy great action in bumpy water.Problem and theory is when the fish hits the bait the dypsy dont always trip there fore the dypsy pretty much stayes flat in its path the fish gets the chance or 2 or 3 to spit the hook before grabbing the rod there fore many got free this weekend before backing off on the release screw after that it was back to a near 100% hookup on the dypsy rod .So this is what having a soft release and stiff rods do im my humble opinion,as soon as the fish hits the fly the dypsy trips releasing a lot of pressure on the rod tip the rod instantaly straightens out taking up slack and flipping the dypsy which heads to the surface thus causing the spindoctor to go side ways in the water causing more pressure on the hookpoint and setting the hook deeper with each headshake instead of allowing the fish time to shake it loose .so thats my story and im sticking with it ...after having better than 50% lost fish to 100% hooked up and landed with the only diff being the set screw i am 99.99% shure this was my problem this weekend.

fishing was great catching was good manged 1o lakers and 1 small landlock with 1 9.75 laker on the board in senior div. for 1 day, sundaty jason and i targeted lakers with 17 by 11am then he had to leave and my second partner showed up at 1in afternoon we setup where we left off with the all day bite still going found fish a tad south of where they were sat 400 yds managed to end the day 31 for 40 also lost many sat too... im gonna post my THEORY as to loosing fish on dypsys in above post and i think i got it right well 99.99% so if you loose fish on dypsys read ..i know someone asked question and cant find the post hope im not repeating answer ..the LOU roll call was neat for the 2 days i fished ,jason had to work and the old timer with bad knees, sugar, bad kidneys, arthritious, and first trip in a year woosed out today (he reeled in many fish ) .It was my pleasure to get him on the water maybe for the last time due to failing health and gave him another story to tell he was in 2nd place in seniors for a day and mighty proud of it as he should be he was too stuborne to let jason or I help him and the fish almost won ,with jason running as far away from the net as possiable i scooped it up with high 5s, handshakes ,and hugs of joy . We won more than money could buy with that fish . though we all could of used 5000.00 bucks. Thank you Jason, and Charlie Harrington for more great memories.P.S. j i got your button -
65lb power pro i still use the 3 to 1 ratio at 2.5 setting as i do for 30 lb wire not 100% shure its the same dive depth as wire but has always seemed to work for getting it in the zone for me at 2.5 to 2.7 speed,50 lb pp might be a closer range to wire...reg. dypsy with ring.....(about 4in dia.)

Ya know if i got pulled over by the coasties or B P i would put my shoorts on and greet them with open arms (specialy if there was women on board their vessel). If any of us heard a boatfull of bombs were dicoverd on OUR waters we all would be giving praise at the efforts of OUR homeland securty .We all have spent more time untangling rods or clearing rods to fight a fish than it takes to do a securty check. If there checking boats maybe they know something we dont or are training for the real deal. They ant gonna give anyone time to arm a bomb by giving FAIR warning who they are or what their intentions are . I would shake there hands and thank everyone of them for putting THEIR LIFE ON THE LINE FOR US. Times are a changing ,i was in newburgh the day of the bust of terriost if they got there way and shot down a C-5A OVER US the fallout might have ended my post then you all would of sufferd,or not. So give'em a break they are here for our protection all branches of our military need to practice for the real thing just think of it as doing YOUR PART of helping to train the new guys and have a beer knowing you just help train a "newbe" Ray K. U.S.M.C. AIRWING WITH MANY TRAINING MISSIONS to this day i could still take out a boat flying 60knots with a .50 cal, drop a terrest at 500 yds with one shot or survive in the wild surviving on the land due to my nusance training..just dont expect me to run 3 miles in under 18 min them days are long gone
