  10. well there is the best and there is whats practical.the otterboards will perform well(great) but storage can be a issue on smaller boats i like the colapsable cannons they work good and storage is great .they perform well for me up to 125 ft of planer line out

  17. Shade ,tourny fishing can sometimes get tight if youve done your home work and found a secret hot spot good chances are others know of this area thats why their there most of the time tho guys have a tendency to do as i call ""BOAT FISH"" they see a boat pulling in fish and think they gotta get right in there to catch a fish when in actually the fish are most everywhere and lures, presentation, speed ,angle of approach, depth are more factors in that boat catching fish rather than being on the HOT spot of the lake. ..trust me there is a reason boats fish a school of fish fron diff angles, post this concern as a question under fish tech.and youll find out why.If your not comfortable with pack fishing just slide out a little or head away from them. I think the rules were already changed for this year. Also you say eliminate observer ,then say guys got caught cheating,I think the pro/am commitee tries to police our own tournys with observers without bringing in out side babbysitters.tho with my small boat and moter i would like to request a max size to the observer rule another 300 lbs really taxes my small 4cyc moter ...so if anyone on the commitee reads this plese assigne me any petite, single, goodlooking, female observer.... this is for my ability to get it up on plane and get to the hot spot faster ...Thank You..
  18. Chowder ,your post is a perfect example of the need for a boating course. I dont mean to be a smartash (for once) (just once)but you said youve had problems with" drifting or casting boats" ..these would fall in the vessel NOT under power which actually give that boat the """right of way""" and you are the"" giveway"" vessel so driving around a stationary boat or object would fall into easy to plan ahead situation . and if you can hear the people talking to you in my bald headed opinion you are too close specially with boards out ,I would bet a dollar after you passed the other baot was thinking or say ing about you ,you had the whole lake and you had to drive right next to them. If ya got room give every boat a wide birth as to not "lable" the trollers .......now tight pack fishing is another story with experenced drivers some times you gotta "thread the needle ""to get through a tight spot ,that is usually caused by one boat trying to wedge into a spot and NOT planning ahead or the NOCLUE guy wondering why everyone is showing him there closed fist with 1 finger extended....Please dont be offended for me using your post as a example,, ,,,I will fairly bash you on another post tho if you give me a chance
  19. the bigger boat has the right of way unless you have a 50 cal operational on your bow.....as stated the sugested rule for open water is to bear to right ,but it ant set in stone ...the near shore and other fishing conditions or encounters ,are a no brainer to some and a challenge to others ,then there is the auto pilot guy ,its my lake guy,the bigger boat guy,the inconsederate guy , the plain ol stupid idiot who ant gotta clue, and the charter captian trying to put his clients on fish at all cost ......Each port has there fair share of each .And it dont take long for the word to get out among the gang who the Idiots are and who the good fishermen are. in each port . fishing the pro ams 1 year ive found every port has the labled guys .As legasy said a deffinate turn of the wheel to show your port or starboard should be all it takes for two boats to communicate .but i swear most will not have a clue as to what your doing and assume you want to play a game of chicken...just plan way ahead as two approaching boats are on each other amazingly fast for only doing 2.5 mph each .i always figure in the idiot or clueless driver facter when in or near the pac. i strongly recomend a standard boating course for all on the water and the Power boating squadron course is worth its weight in gold for any serious boater.
  20. My Momma always said i beat ya cause i love ya !!!I still ernt right.
  21. thanks jeff i agree with the twillies just gotta wild hair and thought i might try something different ill get the uglies 7 ft ..tomorrow and some twillies and edit my other post
  22. just wanted to get post for updates ..Rod..
  23. i havent gotten any yet im shure they ant cheep the more i thought about it today im a wondering if the swivel tips have stops so you or someone on your baot cant wrap the line around the tip ..ive used twill tips with great results and the saw the fleas off wire and the Pow.pro.the rod i used yesterday had a fixed pully so you had to pay attention to rod position ... i dont know if it was the pully or ,shorter rod that made it seem so much more effortless realing in fish.if anybody has horror stories or good luck with rollers id like to hear the twillies are idiot proof which are good for me as i fish alone and sometimes in 4 and 5 ftrs the last thing i want to do is loose a fish and 30.00 worth of tackle for a little less reeling resitance....hmmmm thought s to ponder
  24. Well the shorter rods are a no brainer as to the fish having less leverage on you but ive stuck with the longer rods for clearence and down speed indacators on my big boat. With that said i stuck one of my (power pro)dypsy reels on a 6ft meat rod (sethgreen rod) with a roller tip for my trip to seneca yesterday in my canoe.OMG what a difference as you might imagine fishing with a long rod out of a canoe could be dangerous at best in the dead of winter not to mention deploying ,retriving ,or holding (rod holder) issues,i stuck that 6 ft rod in my plastic rod holder held in place with a small clamp without torque issues, retriving the fish was effortless even reeling in the "set" dypsy to change depth was a breeze almost effortless. in fact 3 or 4 times i tripped and retrived my dypsy because it pulled so little i thought it was tripped or wrapped ,just could not belive the difference in rod torque at the handle or tip as far as that is concerened. After yesterday i will be buying 2- 7FT" Heavy "1 pc Ugly Stix (30 bucks at walmart). 2 twillies, retiping the Uglys with twillies and replacing 2 of my dypsy setups with the short rods. Ill keep the other 2 long ones for now till i learn where in my arsanal ill be deploying the shorter rods...... I know Bill and some others dont like the power pro products for this applacation (dypsy) but as ive said many other times it dives as deep as wire ,if you use the 65 lb test you can use a slide diver with no slippage and unlimited length of line out from the slider to your bait, the lake ontario fleas are not a issue with PP (fingerlakes strain diff story),youll almost never cut off a rigger fish on power pro , no kinking,no curling,no fraying(gets a little fuzzw near the swivel)and ive got a reel with the same line for going on 7 years with PP same knot and swivel ,cant say that for wire (some of my own dooings)start out with 1 of each and go from there... i edited the roller tips to twillies after rethinking and others input
  25. troutman the tackle sale alone has packed that place elbow to elbow with buyers.. Every year iv been there , almost every inch of floor space is taken by tackle tables also,I hope you consider or have considered putting gun dealers near door (exit)and togeather we all know "shouldering" a weapon is a must for proper size and feel.I think your idea of guns would of been better seved and more succesfull to have a seperate" sporting goods sale" including guns ,maybe pals ,watkins sporting goods, seneca marine, local bow shops could move some slow movers in there stock and make aware the other services each may offer to the community. But im justa plummer...........With that said its a sale not to be missed if you need tackle ....or not
