  2. hi my name is ray
  3. ive got 10 of the okuma 20 line counters, okuma s ive got are touchy drags, line counter never come s back to zero on all 10 ...example if you let out 100 ft then wind back in they will be 10 to 30 ft off, dont make no sence to me as its all mechanilce gear system..... i bought 8 of the shakspere T20LCL use 2on dypsy rods (heavy duty abuse)and 6 on rigger rods you can set on zero in the morning fish all day and still be on zero by the end of the day ,,,drags are a little sensative to overthighting ..but normal basic reel care will almost eleminate that
  4. spindocter with 8oz inline weight ,heater works good ,,,,,4.5 hrs
  5. good idea dcso those should be very stealthy with 4lb line and a small roostertail..................KERPLUNK..........while trolling in small streams..
  6. Took the canoe out had the whole place to myself. Couldnt belive it a toasty 15 deg. smooth as glass and no one out. tried the topbite again for 3 hrs and nutin. so i deployed my one laker setup headed south on the west side and got 1 24" laker ,snow was getting deep in the canoe ,ran outa propane for the heater ,and the battery was wimping out ,so i tucked my tail and came home ....
  7. the cheapest way to find temp at the ball,or i should say at what depth is the temp your looking for to put the ball at, is a radio. listen to the conversations usually some one will mention depth thats working for them .usually the reference down temp is 65 at 50 means 65deg at 50 ft if after a little while of listening with no one talking depth then a polite requist on the radio 99% of the time will get you the info your looking for .dont step on a conversation and expect results but wait till there is a lull in the chatter .identify yourself ,as a new fisherman without a temp probe and ask if some one could give you some down temp info,if there ant a pro,am or other port derby going on youll get replys.Thats the good news ,the bad news is, down speed is more important than temp and that changes (usually) everytime you change your direction.down temp is great to find the comfort zone where the fish will usually (hang out) but they will leave that comfort zone for short times to feed so if your missing the ideal temp zone by a few feet its not as bad as running your presentation too slow or too fast for proper action of a lure or flasher.a salmon can exceed speeds of 25mph so its only seconds for it to raise 20 to 40 ft for a "good looking " bait. also with eyes designed to see up better than down your better off to run your stuff a little above the ideal temps.Ive said it a hundred times the 3 s's are the most important thing to maintain --- 1-speed2-speed 3-speed. did i just digress again?????
  8. Tim sounds like a nice ride would you consider 6500.00 ....if not i could go $7000.00 ....

  14. tom if ya got something that works stick with it that post is too long to read let alone type .if yu wanna test any line just tie a overhand knot and try to break ,if it breaks easy walk away if it cuts both of your hands then call yourself a idiot and buy the stuff. i tried it with 20lb P-Line flouroclear with a bick pen and a screwdriver and it cut the pen in half been useing it ever sence .
  15. Yea we hit the 100 pro membership yesterday. if your sitting on the fence jump over some of the pros are from caleforniea (as arnold would say).Even tho some of them think they are East of us we still welcome them ,Stan seems to frequent San Franscisco quit a bit so he kinda up dates us as to whats happining there(not that we care but if we dont listen his feather suit gets ruffled). also after finding the L.O.U. site a couple of them boys are comming our way this spring for some REAL fishing in april. So ill repeat my self as i always do cause i forgot what i say from day to day, join the PRO SITE enjoy the extra benifets ,links, and the chatroom that keep so many of us in tears of laughter during the long days (nites short days) of winter. Chad and others put a lot of FREE time to keep us all connected ,informed, and entertained. so before gas goes back to 4.00, albany gets our new fees or you spend your wad on lures that will rust in the tacklebox long before they ever catch a fish, get informed ,stay in touch, and Jump on board....Hope this helps Ray K.
  16. Nawzus welcome to the site by the maste basher .You ant no different soon as you signed that dotted line yer fair game. Before i blind side ya just curios where the name came from?if we get a few decent days next week ill try to get onto lake ontario from oak orchard.keep one eye here and fire away with questions, but do spend some time at www.attheoak.com site if you were gonna fish in june for example go to the fishing report archives and you can see what worked for some of the top charters on the lake(in that port) for that month for the last 8 or 10 years.that will give you some idea of what to expect for that time of year. also lotts of good reading .if you do your homework there youll be able to figure out everything what youll need for some good lake fishing (about 5000.00 for starters) www,captianscove.com is a good shop in that area for tackle as is Narby's bait and tackle.
  17. typically the lake will be droppoed 4 to 6 ft in the winter or at least it appears to be that big of a drop when i can get in the so end.the first time i went under it in my trihull 15 yrs ago i had to retip a few rods in the summer. if o get a min ill drive over to check it out its only 45 min from my house.
