  1. The transition is only for the weak at heart , I dont mind trolling and working all day for a dozen fish if it nice out, if nothing else ill run off shore ,but the flats were loaded last sunday with nice marks but there was a ton of bait i had to compete with.im really thinking about the erie thing but that adds another 100.00 in gas as tasty as they are i think i need to hear the drag screaming a few more times this year before i drive that way.....Thank You
  2. Thanks ,John. Worms, stix ,spoons ,or all of the above this time of year?Thoughts and prayers to Capt. Bud and family.
  3. From the sounds of things we will be doing the crying, last day of the derby was tuff for us on the south end too.One other suggestion might be to launch at Servern and fish to the north the bottom is a little more forgiving up there (flatter) and the lakers and most all fish migrate around Seneca and what is a hotspot in Feb through May ,will find you scratching your head at other times.Good Luck. The waters off valois pretty much hold lakers this time of year..
  4. G.B ,think you bought the wrong stuff for dypsy.1000 ft spool is the same size as a single mono refill spool and about .015 dia...like stix said mason brand.30# is used by most.
  5. Capt. Bud,my thoughts and prayers for your family in this time of loss.............Ray K.
  6. anything happining around Dunkirk yet.? Capt .John.
  7. 80,90,and120ft target zones down,240 on the#1 dypsys on 2.5 setting,2.5 to2.7mph. on the dypsys id run dark green spinny with green fly, chartruse or mtn dew early morn or late afternoon or cloudy day.green dolphin or green and chartruse spoons mid day, purple stix in the top 25ft water .run as close to bottom with deepest rigger 6 ft back on the deep rigger .if your not running dypsys run 75 to 100ft on the spoons ya might wake up a brown and some of those lakers need a second chance, with a long lead, suttons or some flutter spoons on the sliders .watch the bottom close(zoom in) when you se a laker laying there turn out to the middle for then head back to the shore run 100ftsh.if that dont work stop in at burger king and get a fish sandwitch.
  8. modis is shaping up ,strong west wind (almost too strong)will get the lake moving (strong currents)that should bring some of those resting fish in the hunting mode as the bait gets pushed around a bit.now if we can get a day or two of some n/w winds gently getting some temps near shore ,maybe just maybe ????
  9. we been wondering where all the big fish have been hanging out ,send em down will ya.27lb could be a 7500.00 fish in the summer derby.
  10. Well I didnt get skunked but I didnt set the world on fire. Set up in 90ft heading for the flats with good tight bait balls every 5 min or less so i knew the feeders were on the bait.got 1 18lb king about 0630 on a east troll purple glow 3mph 40 down over 95 ft.had the lead fire and start ripping like no tomorrow 8.5 colors out ,knot at the water, before i got the king on the stringer with a nice steelie. Tried radio calling for any LOU members and radio check to share my spot i had to myself but no radio check or reply,so i had to stay on em alone.got several more steelies and even scraped a laker off bottom on a west ruturn trip in 80 ft.great marks all over there(The flats).Ran west 12miles for my buffy run at 10am ,found great color and temp at 120 ft water ,had a steelie hit a purple slider before getting 2nd rod down several more steelies on my return troll .Im shure if a hung out at the flats for the day i would of had all the fish i wanted but as you know the water is greener west of the oak ,or is it?P.S. all the steelies from the west end were skinny as a rail and no bait marked.
  11. Many,Many THANKS to you all ,and May i be allowed to pray for your families when the time arrises. Just Got a call from mom and DAD is comming home 2 days early Today........Sat.6/14/08 ...........I will forever spill my guts as to what works for me when i fish and where im fishing .(unless its a derby) then my lips are sealed.........Ray K.
  12. IA ,the whole lake is pretty much hit and miss right now.Wilson niagra bar area should have the best consentrations of fish with the least amount of searching. The oak reports ant been too good and that area is usually smoking with some of the best charters on the lake in that port ,their searching 5 to 8 mi off shore just for steelies to save the day.Basicly the fish are everywhere spread out with tons of bait to keep their hunger surpressed.Your best bet if you get one is mark the waypiont and hit that area hard . If you choose sodus i would suggest a 330 heading outa port setup at 100ft of water and troll north. keep a couple top lines just under the surface too.As for me if i could play i would head to the Oak (point breeze).in fact as im typing my wife asked what i wanted for fathers day and i said a day of fishing and she said ok so maybe ill see dad tonight and head north.............................To The Oak.........
  13. i tried the lantern thing too all i did was break the glass but it stayed lit longer than the candle .im gonna work on a extension cord with a flashing strobe light. or disco ball.....
  14. quit your whining it was a joke (im polish)now do ya get it
  15. i tried candles but they kept going out.next thing you know someone will invent a glow in the dark spoon .
  16. not really if it were me id try it on one of the 2 on the left that are the same to see if there was a diff. with uv.some people think the uv tape is new but i have a dodger ive had for 9 years with the uv. on one side .the dk green with gr fly will fool some lakers . also get in your arsnol a green dolphin and a nbk spindocter..
