  1. Capt. Chris with all due respect sir i dont know what your doing to that fish but it looks mighty surprised and your straining..........sorry its my sickness
  2. salmonspanker, now thats some name hope you dont hunt monkeys
  3. Mark ,do you compress your files or run em live?192 ft of water near the shipping lane that could only be .......................
  4. no to the long rods (8.6),i bougth a set of 8 couple years ago and there in the basement 7 or 7.6 are my prefered poles. i have a bunch of 7ft 15lb test leaders wraped on a empty line spool ready to go .as for depth to many factors, line dia ,speed ,lure drag, line out drag, never really tried to find a formula but i think i read a 10color spoon of lead weighs 1lb and that will get you to 55ftish but there is a lot of line drag there .my guess using line angle above water and distance from rod tip to entry point at surface .i figure 15 for the 1.24 and 25ft for2.25 if the 1.25 is working then ill change up to that weight ,but as a general rule this is a topwater setup and when fish are on top 35 ft of water i dont think they stratify at 20 ft but are all over up and down searching in the upper water colum, unless there is a hatch then (most) are on top though most are the smaller 5 to10lb steelies if you want the bigger steelies and cohos keep 1- 2.25 oz on the outside (i know heavyest to the inside) if it is a big boy it will have that lead flying outa the water faster than it can trip the release, heck the smaller ones will have it flying before you can grab a rod.P.S. never put lead in a release (dont tel yankee i said this)
  5. couple weeks ago the coasties were asking everyone to keep there eyes open as a paddle boat was found overturned in the lower river.
  6. they run the river in may though the excessive snow pack this year has kept the hudson a little cooler .when the temps at newburgh reach 60 to 65 deg. the spawn will happen in the flats.55 deg 2 day ago. so many places to fish so little time and gas.
  7. hang on we have done 40 to 60 a day 4 years ago then downhill from there last year we didnt go and the catch was on the rise ,talked to ceelys bait shop in newburgh 3 days ago and the males are in heavy with th .e big girls to follow ill be watchin chases site close but 1% of the guys who fish there post capt bill outa newburgh will leak a little info but not to phone frindly if he catches on to a fish report seeker if we dedcide to go friday nite ill pm ya before leaving if there in like years past you will be happy with my methoud

  10. ok i just had my first salmon (king) of the year and it was delicious .a little emerald fish rub and 8 min on the stove and resturant quality fish at my house, just a reminder bleed em out , clean when expired and pack on ice ,cut the lateral off and trim all fat for some good eats
  11. thanks bill ,cbish ta got anymore riggers for cheep?
  12. i look at getting tangled as a learning process ,yup it can happen to anyone and has happened to almost everyone (the rest lie).thats where the learning curve is and unless your pushing it in the curve you arnt learing too much .thats what i ment by learning your program for your boat.some things can be tought others learnd or never learnd (like my spellin) enjoy each tangle and dont do it again.
  13. 3 chummers ,heck im a little ready to jump in with one chummer specially with someone like Fisherman who has outstanding projection it gotr a little bumpy fri at olcott but even motoman held his breakfast for once. atta boy stix i was thinking you were all air but now the ball is in our court again.easy on the arm heck mine is still sore from thinking i (we) was gonna place. next time .............Ray K.
  14. the first one look like the" croc pots" the other guy needs to throw a couple cinderblocks in the front of there boat for ballest or get a skinnier crew looks like a sene from "Shallow Hale" when he was in the canoe
  15. jeremy this was for you...wheres your post from sandy?
  16. mark i like the cubano hand line fishing ,its nice to see a real sportsman giving those fish a chance, kinda like the oldtimers handlining copper on the fingers for lakers
  17. your welcome to jump on my rig it ant shiny and new and it ant even got a radio (am/fm) that works.but if we put our two brain cell in the same boat were bound to get a fish or two ,heck i might even first mate in erie for a meal of wally.or go on one of those test runs
  18. i think you got something there cb with the winning fish outa osweago last year the good fisherman all fished those waters,or it could be that thats called fishing ,sometimes fish are outa temp ,depth or even the wrong end of the lake.im shure the guys who got th 12500.00 check wernt to fussy what port they got the fish from
  19. as you know im a little wet behind the ears in the spring stuff but last year the cohos were just to the leading edge of the green water that would put them about 5 miles east of olcott if i had to guess from my couch. big jobs all week no time to play ,ill save up for the weekend when i'll become a bass fisherman, striped bass on the hudson... if all goes as planned.
  20. mlk,i feel your pain of inviting a rookie on board ,jason lost at least 1/2 dozen lures this year, couple nice tangles(break out the knife)and a couple backlashes to keep him busy ,on his side of the boat.as for me ......its pretty hard to mess up a worm and bobber setup..
  21. jason he said distinguished.
  22. cb that will get you in the ball park but the wider your cone the less accurate your depth estamate to a fish or your ball because of the way a fishfinder works .unless your at a dead stop .the reason a "good hook" shows on the screen is not because some guy in a office decided to make a fish like a hook, but as th fish enters the cone it hits the fish at the outer edge of your cone as you pass over and the fish is centered in the cone its closer and as you pass away it is still in the cone but further away, thus a good hook is almost under the boat a dot or flat line is too the edge of the cone .this is another way to sorts figure if the fish are spooky lots of hooks the fish are staying put,, short leads would be a good guess to start, all lines or 1/2 hooks (assuming your transducer is at correct angle)and the fish are squirting away from the boat thus "spooky" longer leads and a good dypsy day, fish react they dont think ......thats your part ...i think...what was i saying? question of the day........How can you use this theory to determin the way a fish is heading or facing? i will be scoring you on your answer.
  23. i know that was a joke ,boy i gotta break everyone in.the guys i talked to were trolling just over the pa line they havent tried west yet for some reason?
  24. could be i just sorta got used to my setup 10 ft down and there straight 100 ft and the blowback happens ys sorta work with what you have.
  25. ill get over it was calling about that school of steelies we hit friday afternoon.and the pink stickbait they were hitting ,we had a emergency fri and had to come home, also those marks on the bottom turned out to be kings not lakers we put stuff in there face on the bottom and they fell for it
