Help with understanding wind direction
ray koziatek replied to momay4000's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
the lake usually rotates in a counter clockwasy direction so a gentle north ,northwest .or west wind kinda keeps the lake spinning in the right direction, when this happens the food chain starting from the photoplankton which floats and is pushed and or acculamited by the natural current and temp breaks , that is why temp. breaks are usually the most productive waters as the food from the tiny stuff to the bigboys feed these breaks and are more concertrated ,thus more fish caught when you get a strong or sustained east wind it sorta spinns the waters near shore backwards spreading out the thermale and the food and fish with it . thats why the saying when the wind is from the east the fishing is least and west the fishing is the best.....the north and south winds pretty much happen as mentioned above ive had 70 deg topwater drop to 40 degrees ouvernite in the summer also im shure youve heard some one say there waiting for the lake to "setup" thats what there waiting to happen. http://coastwatch.glerl.noaa.gov/modis/ ... 3.250m.jpg -

sorry no camera gotta get me a cheepie i can leave in my overnite bag, gotta couple of cell pics but there kinda poopy.as far as the dial thing it was more dumb luck and a huge flock of seagulls (eating bugs) that put me on those fish, once i got a taste of those bugs (everywhere breath through your nose) and saw the green water then the catching started -
well im in deep dodo cause 2 guys wanted to go and i didnt reply (sorry)just needed a little buffy time before winter set back in. looked around the oak and didnt like the color tho the temp was good so i did my 10 mi run west ,slowed down to look and was overcome by a fresh hatch of bugs and green water at 8:00 am .for those intersted fresh hatch and green water spells cohos and or steelies.just got 2 nd line out before a 7lb scamania starts the areal dance with a jr t stick tequila color, it took me 15 min to get her in with several runs and jumps ,before i got it outa the net # 2 is ripping with a plump steelie keped that and 20 min later another scamania tailwalking all over the back of the boat bigger than the first let her go to spawn this summer .was getting ready to run to wilson when another steelie hit the top line lost that one ,decided to stick out where i was.set the riggers for the big boys and my chrome and green spinny with siggs aqua fly starts throbbing like a jackhammer it was so loud it woke me up in time to see it break off on my plainer line( i forgot to check the drag after taking up the rigger slack my bad) important lesson never go to sleep when fishing alone with a tight drag.the first scamania was full of bugs nothing else, the steelie had big bait in its gut.water was perfect color tho a little cold 41 on top.but when the hatch was happining so was the fishing .also lots of bait at 125 to150 ft down i was in 160 to 180fow with good marks above and mixed in with ocasional 60 ft marks thats where i had my rigger that fired.to the guys who wanted to go im sorry but basicly this is my 2nd spring fishing with serious attemps at the pond so i feel a little insecure about my spring program specially with the unfavorable winds latley.also the green water held up till i was 8mi outa the oak ,all hits on top with 1/2 to 1.25 oz keelsinkers 7 ft leaders all small stick baits on top,the only big stick was the T stick jr.

well not exatly what you thought but now that i got you here i gotta couple photos mr. wilson,16lb laker, and 42 little guys that came out of a 23" steelie never gutted him till the end of the day or i would of downszed to scorpions and small stuff i think that was my problem and most everyone else i heard was whining ........SO if your smart and head to wilson.olcott area you might want to downsize.....for a while

only one way to find out for shure ...grad you mask and fins ,,,see ya............im just a plummer but a good swirling toilet will pull the heavest of turds out and up before the bug gulp,my guess is it will raise up with speed, why i think ol FISHERMAN managed to plane off a 10 lb rigger with prob attached last year as he spead back to the dock.boy he must have cheep rigger cables as to break that easy

story goes the kids caught the first photo fish and tom grabed it for a photo, then he made the kids hold up the fish he struggled to get in for the rest of the shots ......real nice gramps

FIRST TIME ON ONTARIO
ray koziatek replied to muskybob's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
lastchance ....as everyone here could help you its a little hard for everyone to post a tip for you without it becoming overwhelming....as i always do i recomend www.attheoak.com ther are lots of links there.(totalchoas) has some great general giudelines ,also if you go to fishing report archive ,you can check the dates your going to the lake (may) for the last several years for more help as to what worked previous years for that date timeline, and dont sweat the small stuff like landing the fish, just enjoy the fight ...1.dont thumb the reel,2. dont grab the line,3. clear the back of the boat of rods,4.dont bring in a salmon green,5.raise the fish head out of the water just a little and slip the net way under as to not hook your lure in the net before the fish is in the net... great luck Ray K. PS. none of us has done the above mistakes :oops:double PS there is a olcott fishing site there also it ant up and running yet(updates) but it should be by then..
