went outa the oak at 8:00am think i got a slight case of food posioning at a local eatry i never sleep in late and got worse through out the day but i digress ,,started in shallow (20) ft and got 1 king on a peckerhead ok 1 brown slimy king but it did fight pretty good maybe 15 lb ...pulled stuff and moved to buffy waters 27 line droped my first line at 9:30ish and was nonstop till 2:30 it was a much longer time of getting hits than my most fish day but these things were huge and it took forever to get them in about 12;30 i finaly got both rods set without one going off so i got out my sub and started to eat lunch ........wrong i had 2 fish on before i could stuff 1/2 sub in my face finnaly at 2:30 it slowed enuf to set rods and work on buffy zone with a rod fireing still every 5 to 10 min till 4:00 when i quite fishing. I was still getting sicker it was so bad i never opened a beer all day now thats sick.............I've never cought so many steelhead over 10 lb in my life several probly toped 15 lbs and they all were jumpers they were high enuf in the water where they were outa the water 1or 2 times before the release.. the dirt 55 down or/wht tamiron custon made spoon #1 new stinger hammer mag #2,supermam #3. SIGG bad news this is my first trip to the lake without your flys getting fish, the good news is i never got a chance to run them  watermelon,gr dolphin also.......

Is it still ok to troll in thr lake
ray koziatek replied to slapshot's topic in Open Lake Discussion
been trying to get some info too. was there last friday and did well out at the 27 line on watermellon.didnt try inclose 12ft water cause of the weeds .and the temp in the midwaters 100 ftish was 68 deg, on bottom.should be good this weekend as the lake had plenty of time to settel out and the temps should be a little higher. motoman should be there as i type and will give a report when he gets off the water today..the steelies are great fishing now, with 2 yr old 10lb salmon mixed in and if you fish the temps the cohos should still be in the zone for another week.i forgot to mention a few weeks ago out deep 7 miles offshore i picked a brown 50 ft down ,i might hook the boat up again friday night and head north............ -
thanks tom im glad you reminded me about the boat, and ive got plans drawn up for a arch with a tanning light support, motoman spanked me for not inviting him last friday he,s giving it a shot today ,think he,s offically hooked he wants my big jon electrics but maybe ill rigem up for plainer board retrivers...kinda looking for a backyard to keep my boat for short termnear the oak if anyone knows of souch a place kinda secure too..

couple years ago a caught a atlantic with a state tag and the infection around the tag was really nasty, the fish would of died soon,, it would be interesting to know how many times a fish hit lures in its life time and what its favorite spoon was ,we got enuf dedicated poeple on this site to help the state or anyone else do surveys,we could of tagged every coho in the lake in the spring out west.. -
wire vs. 30-50lb. braid for running dipseys
ray koziatek replied to dremarquis's topic in Tackle and Techniques
i dont know if i need one as ive never run a dypsy without one ,on agressive days my hookups are near 100% .when you feel a fish swimming away head shaking and tail kicking that snubber has to be acting like a shock absorber, cutting down on the amount of lip ripping and hook hole elongation during the fight specially when your pulling it in and you feel that big head shake.i cant imagine how it would feel without that 10 to15 " of bungie effect.. i started using the clear snubbers this year they seemed kinda whimpy but after a hardy season with the dypsys they have held up great (knock, knock) i really dont think im missing any hookups due to these ,and i think (i know) my land ratio is greater on the dypsys in part due to the snubbers, the rest of the landing part is just raw skill on my part and my mental capicity to outthink a fish, well one in a thousand i can outsmart but as i say...........................run the snubbers and..................... -
lurk, lurk, musky ive been reading some of your post and by the numbers you post it looks like you need to jump on board with some who knows what there doing,if you find someone see if they got room for two.......

ive been pushing(pulling) power pro for 4 years with great results still haven't touched the origional knot now i do use the 65lb test which is a little bigger than the wire but a few extra ft on the counter will put it in the zone ..as for fleas im not shure if its the dia, or the sorta oval shape that might shake em off,but side by side the 65lb runs cleaner, much cleaner than my wire and it cleans much easier than wire at the tip (twill) most people post the oppisite results which seem a little odd ,but my post might be the odd one?????as i dont get out as much as some ive only logged 422hrs this year in 15 years when i retire ill have time to fish a little more . -
mini trolls what do you guys think?
ray koziatek replied to salmonite's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
minis will work ok, seeing you wally fish you must have some of those bottom bouncers and know how to keep it on bottom try a 15 to 20lb test x10 ft leader behind one,gr dolphin,silver/brass hammerd 44,stinger spoons nat colors (scorpions)superman will work,if ya get a rigger grn mtn dew spindocter w green fly will work great siggs riggs flys are a preference as they hold up real good down 75 to 80 ft ,and a worm harnes at 25ft if ya got a spare pole should or could get ya a monster smallmoulth with a planner off to the side. -
i know guys who spend a lot of time above a seth green rig on keuka but they get littler fish for some reason ,but if your eating em their the best eaters as you know ,,, i still got some old wallys ,woodchucks laying around if ya need a couple ,i never new him in the early years as im 50 but spent some time with him behind a springer wacking grouse ,he took me to some of his honey holes in the early 80"s talk about a hot shot if he saw the bird it was his..Life is good..........

Fall LOC Derby stats
ray koziatek replied to Persistence's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
I think it all related to the fishes inteligance levels, there in schools all day they gotta be learning something ,with all the talk about transfatty oils and these new weight loss programs there just being a little more healthy in their life style. thats why them 20 lb fish fight so much harder they been working out staying trim and strong.man if im talking this way now just think what this winter will bring... opps gotta go were under attack must get my tin foil hat before its too late.................. -
I guess my olcott trip this spring was my big day 1:00 in the afternoon flatter than ice and one of those hatches occured, within minutes the surface came alive with a school of cohos i did 45 fish in under 2 hrs with many of the hooked fish swimming by the boat with ths spoons hanging from there lips . hooked so many that i stoped fishing to enjoy a beverage and watch the feeding frenzy. no flyrod or ultralight on board.

salmon on the bottom
ray koziatek replied to steelfire's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
allright the master speaks with 4 years of lo fishing under my belly now(i mean belt) heres what i think there all rocks,,,,,,,,,,,almost all fish rest on bottom hopefully where the thermo intersects the bottom ,BUT it seems like near the 1st and 2 nd week of aug the kings spend a little time there as their going through their phase of shutting down for the spawn cycle of life, outa mexicobay ive seen these marks in a given spot for a few days with little action then after a good blow or front passes you cant get across that spot without several hookups and they all got pinkish bellies, that pink belly is what ive been told is caused by laying on bottom(i think its diaper rash from laying in their pee i get it too).now for some stupid reason the browns like the 70,80 ft water off sodus and if there is a good north blow for a few days and the temp dropes below that, them boys will just lay in the warm water on bottom and go dormant (and pink bottom) wont feed or move ,but give them a good south blow and roll up some cold water and your spring fishing browns in july and there bellies are pink for about a day then back to normal color ,.. anyone who fishes the fingerlakes for lakers will notice the bottom fins are allmost always a pinkish color during the summer but are pure white in the winter monthes ,and if ya dont like my explaning just talk to the fish like i do thell tell ya gotta go my pigon is calling me....................maybe those fish with the folded tails were caught and released by the canadian mounties (sorry skiener)
