  2. got out of the oak early and started at 85 ft where i left em sun nite,2fr 6 ,set up and headed east all alone,1st at daylight with wh/on wht, sppin and fly, small salmon.14lb.next on glow purple under the boat 55 down.2 more landed on same setup and 2more lost 4 for 6 by 9:30 with a few more short runs that never hooked up good biggest 24 lbs due to so wind changing to west i decided to run out in the swells as with a wind change in this area it sometimes gets flat out there and as i reached the 26.5 line north it flattened out to 1 ftrs and was dead at 27on north ,good for buffy weather as i had the lake to myself, got to play with the ultra light after 3 lost spoons the 6lb went back in the cabin and i broke out the 10lb line reels landed lots of steelies for 4 hrs straight and a couple small kings too,12lbish was the biggest steely with good jumps for a 10 min fight, all but 2 were sent back for the next trip.i was surprised to find it still a little bumpy inside after almost 5hrs on near flat water out deep, great day to fall asleep and get woke by the sound of a screaming clicker,if i wasnt running a solo 2rod spread i think i could of spanked em inside and out
  3. heading for the oak now should be a good evning bite and give the derby one last shot tomorrow .going alone so if your in the derby and want to jump on call607-769-7947 if your not in the derby and no one calls bring a ultralight (and your own lures) and we can play with some big boys on light tackle Ray K.
  4. Saturday started a little bumpy with 2ftrs near shore with the wall chop it was mixed waves till ya got out a bit 60 ftish then it was gentle swells from the n/e started with a 10 lb coho with white spinn, dctr and a homemade white fly ,150 back on the wire at 2.5 setting, folowed up by a 23lb king on the mtndew spin with siggs green fly,on dypsy same settings lots of marks in the 100 ft range dow. . flooded my probe so i had no down temp, kinda guessed 50 ft as that is where the fish were.after a week of king fishing at catfish i couldnt stand staying in the salmon water and moved out at 6:30 to the steelhead waters, good move it was steady action till we quite at 2:00 started to pick em up at the 25 line and started east /west troll at the 27 straight out of the river.to many hookups to count ,it was great to be BACK HOME AT THE OAK.custom grn dlphn halo with org. ladder took most on the lead at the knot, couple of doubles but no triples, but with my steady chumming nephew doubles were fine with my son and myself.ther were a few 10 lb jacks mixed in out there too, kept the same spinnies out as they were working the whole time too,the steady 3ftr swells made for great catching conditions, and sleeping i ended fishing alone for the last 3 hrs as everyone slept, kinda of a bummer to have to reel all those fish in by myself but i left there rods out in case they woke up, and its a good thing i did as fish kept on hitting them as fast as i put them down, normally i share hot spots on the water when i find them but after several attempts to get someone to give up the down temp due to my flooded probe with no replys we kept our honey hole to ourselves. i know its a derby time but down temp help ant exatly spilling the beans........thanks.......RayK.
  5. 42 to 57 is what i look for.the salmon like the cold stuff but seem to be a little more dormate there. most bait is up and outa temp fer salmon but they head up there for a snack i think when there (salmon)in the upper temp zone 55deg ish there looking for food and are more likley to hit your bait, your papa may be a little smarter than you think,or im as dumb as him..................

  7. thanks i just got off the phone with fishhawks new owners forget the name they just bought em out 2 weeks ago,10,00 for the wheel and they are aware that the pins fall out and recomended small amount of epoxy, they also have the new caps and seal kits due to flooding of the coin slot caps(older style) the newer caps have fishhawk written on them another 10.00, i tried whining about my disfunctional probe but she said it was a personal problem ..
  8. on the wierd one i had several cohos do that in the spring, the water was flat and clear and i watched em swim by with the lures in the moulth only they were smaller then and i landed them all, glad i had electric riggers and the fish were high..
  9. last week things were a little slow in that area for my setup, sat afternoon found cohos stacked in front of nine mile at 55 to 60 where thre thermo intersects the bottom east troll best, find the intersecting line when your there try purple glow spoons, silver e chip with hammer fly ,see my other post on colors ,,,also first morning bite take 330 heading and setup in good temp the dept is changing daily but should be about 70-80 down over 100ft water ,,evning bite straight off salmon river WATER tower n/s troll3.7 miles n. of shore 4.25 miles from salmon river start and go north 1 mile and back south try the mtn dew and purple and shiny spinnys if its sunny if all else fails go green on green good luck ...Ray K.

  12. whew sometimes its good to be home 1 week of a one sided toster ,broken a/c,almost no hot water,2 tv channels,1 day of no sewer-shower -running water,,hey for 90,00 a day guess im beeing picky,,,,,,fishing was ok for the east end just couldnt get a constant bite 45 for 60 with another dozen good releases,,imshure if i spent more time in the area i could adapt to the changing cond . 1 day 120ft cable out over 450ft for temp two days later were pulling plainers in 25 ft water getting browns like it was may 5 ft down. biggest was 42in male 25.13oz after keeping on ice for 5 hrs im shure we lost a lb or two.E-rabbit showed up at camp and shared his 2 day chile with us,took 2 days to come out thanks bud ill be shure not to cut behind your boat next time i see ya on seneca ,it was typical pack fishing with everyone going in the right direction ,that would be the way there boat was heading regardless if the other guys heading, someone should come up with rules for navagation on the water,i think if we used a pennant system like the pro ams to identify by mentality ,like red for stupid, green for smart ,orange for no stinking clue....ect.talk about a sea of orange,,,,,,,hmmmm if we all carried paintball guns we could mark em on the water,..proper radio use goes out the window also ,sounded like R&R and Liquid plummer were playing marco polo, but it was good to hear some board names and they shared a (little info).but that old fart who was acting like a spoiled kid hollering TALLY HO,for every fish was a little annoying, but he kept us awake with his hourly calls, dont know if he was catching fish, had another succesful bowel movement,or was getting lucky in the cabin ,must of had viagra for the last..well i also had HARRINGTON jr on board i must interpet the meaning of the word straight wrong! Then there was sunday ,anyone who fished the sodus pro can judge my accuracy to wave hight i would give day 2 close to 5ftrs with a 6ftr thrown in well it was 6 to 8 ftrs to start with with white caps on top it changed to 8-10ftrs with a 12ftr thrown in ,i can say i broke my stupity level for bumpy water ,the guy going by us on a surfboard hollaring dude thats my wave convinced me it was time to go to port ,and one of the guys reciting the Hail Marys Full Of Grace was getting louder than the wind,BUT HEY THATS FISHING........Ray K.
  13. i have a friend who lives on sodus and fishes everyday he can get out ,,, the last 3 years when the lake rolled he has found 1000's of bass floating dead or stuned when the cold oxagen starved water moved inshore too fast..ok upwelling!
  14. bout 5or6 miles n of fairhaven(LITTLE SODUS) and about 8 miles w/nw from the river
  15. i agre with the east thing but temp has little to due with the run',,' kings start running as early as july with good flow rates and the middle of august is when we used to start the salmon river trips for kings. usually the first week of sept pretty good runs happen (with good flow) and were there in our sneakers and shorts standing in warm water they go when they gotta go warm or cold.........
  16. spoke with dave c .today and he's been overwhelmed with the summer derby and is contemplating not doing it again next year ,to much to do and not enuf time to do it ,, if anybodyt knows him knock some sence in him and tell him we want the summer derby again, and the checks are in or allmost in the mail all is well with the LOC......
  17. sodus bay could be another close body of water , for bass or tubing just stay in the center area if your tubing as a lot of near shore points are a little shallow and will rip your drive off just ask some poeple at the marinas who are familure wiyth the bay
  18. im shure it s been brought up befor as too having a channel to monitor for lou members .............. how about a" """""LOU radio check on 16 """""then suggest a channel as each port sorta has its own chatter channel and capts channel also.." and i know we all monitor 16 for safty reasons.if the fishing doesnt pick up at least we can whine to each other ,sometimes the radio chatter seams to fire a rod or two ,and if its real bad we can tie up make a floating dock and have a party............why does my wife keep saying im imature ?????? anyways the PEGASUS will be outa catfish creek in mexico bay starting this friday for 8 days 607 769 7947 Ray K. (coors light) to bribe information..........
  19. TRY 220 volts .............just kidding if its afishing thingy not many boats run extension cords anymore and have changed over to 12 volts systems .the humming is a 60cyc thing acc.with house current applied to a flat d/c moter, if ya didnt fry it already try 12 v again you may have freed up some brushes or bearings otherwise take it to a marine service or find a handy man who can help ya with it CAUTION ---dont plug anything in a receptical (outlet)that ya dont know goes there..even if it has a 2 prong plug end........
  20. I know one guy who could fill a page by himself heck i could do it for him just from what he leaked out ... HEY speaking of FISHERMAN where has he been Tom ya OK up there .....?????????????
  21. GB. well be up to catfish starting late friday ,also friday is the first day of the loc derby , the guarantee way to get a big salmon is not get in the derby ive heard many stories of people who saved 25.00 that could of won 7500.00 up to 20,000.00 if ya can afford it get in . go straight out little N/W to 100 ft put a gr spindocter /or Echip down the shute80 to 100ft dow at the good temp.tell ya what go to fat nanceys in polockville (POLASKI) and them boys will give ya the straight scoop, where the fish are and what there using .. the salmon are staging now and the catching should be great........................CAUTION stay outa that pack of boats if your not used to steering in a bunch of crazed fishermen half of the boats have no idea of the laws of boating, the other half are so busy fishing they ant paying attention. if youve ever been on the hudson on a weekend during striper season then anything lake onterio fishermen throw at you will seem like childs play.sorta like sking whistler mtn in BC then comming back to swain. me boats name is PEGASUS bring some small water stuff if your a diehard fisherman the salmon river is full of smallmoulths in town and there is fish spread out in the river ,drive to altmar and look at the hatchery, and the hole by the church its closed to fishing now but youll see a lot of fish in one spot there.
