dont expect miracles from the hand held just better than nutin as you said you had mounting issues with you antenna and boat size, yes we were using the handheld to listen in the house , i must have a bad antenna on my boat cause when i get 10 miles plus offshore i loose a lot of chatter from the inshore fisherman and they gotta be 1 or2 miles off shore so about 8or9 miles is all im getting at best with 8 ft ant. except the coasties they step on ya every where on the lake with there output pwr.....LONGLINE what color is your pocketsaver?????????

Well I got the new engine installed (used 120hp) little wimpy compared to the 140 but a lot better than a paddle... for the motorheads my 140 would do 33mph max tweaked trim on a 22' ofshore islander alum.,the 120 would do 29mph max tweaked trim. the full boat4guys will be the bigger test, anyways i droped a wire back 260' in front of painted rocks in 5 min i had a nice rip that took it to allmost 500ft felt like a huge laker by the headshake got it to 300 ft and he didnt like the weather and took another 50ft run tried to baby it in due to the soft moulths of lakers lost it after another 5 min ,turned around and ran same spot and picked another not to big of run maybe 100ft ,landed that one nice 7lb ish laker had the rigger fire during the fight so i stuck the wire in the holder while i brought in a nice landlock on the ultralight ,tasty double stuck the rigger back down as i put the wire away and prepared for the storm and got another 4lbr laker 100 down with a green spin dr w/siggs green fly i had the same setup on the wire with the previous lakers ..1-26".1-28" lakers 1-22" landlock 3 for 4 not bad in 1.5hrs all 3 fish had empty bellies so i think its a fishermans market on the south end right now or at least yesterday..,no lightning with the storm so i stayed out and enjoyed having my boat back on the water ................. ...........also if anyone needs good used parts give SWARTOUT MARINE in hammondsport a call very reasonable ,and pretty smart on any boat issues 1-607-569-3658..

dont flush that thing too fast your power is only for output and if the boat you were listining to were on low power it would give you low /poor volume ,we had one in my friends house on sodus and were listining to boats 5/6 miles out very clear and on the water i called him(SNAKE) from the shute at sodus and heard him loud and clear from a good distance several miles away ......

VIDEO OF PRO AM 2007 OSWEGO & SODUS BOATS
ray koziatek replied to REELJERKS's topic in Fishing Pictures
Im hooked too,its nice to eleminate the other boats (pull plugs, throw banannas on board, steal there adult beverage) to better your odds , but everyone who can should get in these pro am derbys ,ive only done one but if its at all possiable it will be my first of many, start planning now .........P.S. THANK YOU TO ALL THE OBSERVERS ,if ya want to get your feet wet into the pro ams, sign up to be a observer you will meet some great people(UNLESS YOU GET MY BOAT) learn some great fishing techniques, (ditto),and be responsable for the most important part of the derby, also if your on any amature boats other than mine you dont need to enter all that information they tell ya to just pretend you are. -
yes and no dont ya love those answers , major east winds are usually due to large weather change (storm and barometer change) that kinda messes up the fishing but ive done pretty well in these conditions with salmon, gentle east winds are no problem for myself ,but usually if ya got a steady east wind in the am the weather goes downhill throughout the day.i ant no weather person and im sorta fresh to the big pond compared to some folks here but as long as those eating machines got temp and a good presentation they stick there lips on the hook..but i do know one thing for shure the best fishing occures when your fishing the best time to be there is when you are able, and i ant never caught a fish sitting here on my butt on the internet but have learned 75% of what i use from this platform..........so keep plugging away and throw in a couple fishing post ,if i dont get on the water soon ill be bringing up some brown trout stories from my bathroom adventures........
-
yes they work well if ya use a treble just slide 2 or3 beads on your line then slide the sqauid body over them so they dont bunch up on the treble or use the double hook rig like they used to,but flys might be a little better look over some of siggs rigs flys with polorized glasses in the sun i think youll get the idea why they work better

Lakers in lake onterio for some reason rarly have much fight sometimes you get a small7/8lbr and he'll shake his head a little,, small lakers from the fingerlakes is one of the best tablefare fish (trout) you can get in fresh water,if you catch a 20 lb salmon its 2.5 to 3 years old not many years to store up toxins,a 20 lb laker is Probly closer to 10 years and feed on a lot of bottom feeding fish so the toxin levels should be higher , ive never eaten lakers from onterio so i cant comment on there taste but it cant be too bad seeing that it was a commercial fish years ago that was persued to near extinction in the great lakes,, i bet the guy who won the spring loc derby a few years back with a 29lbr smiled all the way to the bank with his poopy catch........also if your not going to eat them only target them as a last resort as the laker population is in a bad state on lake onterio due to issues at some of the main fish hatcheries that supplied lake onterio for the last few years

ray koziatek replied to skipper19's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
i guess i envisioned you sitting at your desk typing a expense report as your thinking of skippys fishing adventure. and the office part is like the seely matress comercial where the boss gives his employe his office (in his dream ) ya know if i gotta simplafy and explane every line i wright ill stick to the GLA site talk about some dunderheads now some of those boys been on the water way too long ,not to mention the tree huggers that lurk there i go there when i want to find out the ONLY right way to do sompthing 37 different ways ..???????????? -
thats strange that the port your outa reacts that way kinda the oppisite on the ny side when we get a south wind the warmer top water blows north and the cold water rolls up behind it causing the fog conditions and a steady north wind pushes the warm water to shore dropping the thermo or cold water down as deep as 120 ft sometimes as happened last month here and pushes the warm water to shore causing us to run 120 ft plus cable out to reach the cold water, and Seneca flips about twice a year due to its depth and water temp usually this time of year and sometimes about jan feb if its been a early cold winter this jan it never flipped and the fishing was all screwed up for most of the jan,feb fishing ,and if july is too cold or windy the upper warm water colum stays mixed up so the lake doesnt stratify and get that 4hr flip kinda weird to be sitting there on a dead calm day and in a matter of a couple hours the surface temp will drop 30 degrees, and tha water starts moving like you are sitting i a lock as its being flooded,, the currents come straight up as the lake flips and you can watch the temp drop and feel the air get cold from the water

oswego muskie fishing
ray koziatek replied to drewski222's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
the only musky in the osweago area is MUSKYBOB could be a new state record if you land that one,if ya ant gonna keep him revive him with a labats blue and toss him back.. -
hey i was gonna make this and sell it but anyone using copper might be interested ,to get the concept (it works) take a screw in tool hanger the type with a single screw and a "u" shaped hanger on the end straighten everything so you can put it in your cordless drill and it runs pretty true (no wabble) then you can slip the forks over the handle of your copper reel and wind that sucker in with a cordless drill when you need to clear the copper rig for a fight dont try high speed ,if ya want to get fancey take a double handle reel handle put a carrage bolt with nut and use that for your winder...leave the rod in the holder so you can keep the reel supported and............ centered with your free hand......
-
thanks gambler I knew there was a third ,just couldnt remember what it was.
-
you got that right i wonder what the wife did with that bag of sand and funnel she bought?
-
the best thing for your copper is to let it all the way out cut the line and put away the rod and put out the dypsys ulnless ya keep it straight and have a newbe to reel it in each time you get a fish on the dypsys ..........if you keep on the wheel copper with dypsys wont tangle but reel like a mad man everytime you get a fish on

go to my longline help post below, click onto link to bathymetry ,wait,r/h side click on square and circle next to lake onterio, godown to refresh and wait and l/o should look darker now, move the curser to the left of mexico bay press and hold left side snd make a red square over mexico bay and release left click (with lap) otherwise move mouse for square ,and this area will enlarge keep doining this till you see all the humps bumps and structure in mexico bay trust me all those humps and valleys are there and the fish load up on them just dont loose a rigger as some of those bumps are over 30 ft and steep also as some one said follow the boats or go straight out maybe west north west 90 to150 ft and troll north 2 to 5 miles and back south the big boys stage north of the river and follow the current (ccL) back to the river..
