  1. i used to scuba dive Keuka lake years ago and would find schools (5 to 15)nice bass suspended 30 to 70 down over 50 to 120ft water. soo i put out my ultralight with #4 hook and 1 #2 splitt shot 18" up and let it float down through them opps stick a night crawler on that hook too that helps once you hook one of them the whole school sometimes followes the hooked fish to the boat ,, if ya keep em I dont or better yet put in livewell the other bass will committe to your bait till there all hooked throw the first back right away and the whole school swims away it and your done with that spot usually.. I know real bass fishermen dont use live bait ,now if you do your homework online and find imatation leeches made from reconstuted leeches a little birdie showed me that was the #1 bait on his bass boat,ok 6ft6 280lb birdie Ray Barber.another fisherman gone to fish the big pond in the sky..Ray K i belive in his day he was in the top 50 in nys when he competed probly closer to #1 than 50 from what ive heard .
  2. Dude , i see one major problem with your restoration project,,,,,,,,,,your dooing it during one of the best fishing years on L.O. sence the 80'S (so ive heard),i havent been to olcott sence the spring for some reason but i go to the oak a lot if ya wanna jump onboard sometime,(me gots a smaller boat 22ft) pm me and ill try to help ya out.Ray K.
  3. no rings on mine tho im a firm beliver in them as i have had landlocks on seneca jump and spin more than once destroying my swivel on other brands ... never had it happen with a ring.. after hooking my 18th place salmon was 12th for 3 hrs,on a R&R grape dot water_____,there s gonna be a lot more R&R's in my box soon..
  4. hmmm guess nobody stumbled on the glow last year not that it worked..blk, clr, glo, back to black just like the saying goes, buttttt last friday i prefished out of another boat and he used ashiny green and after a 400ft run followed by several 100ft runs during the 1/2 hr fight then gone ,id say gr grabed the biggest salmon of my life.but it was 6 to 8 ftrs with a ocasional 10ftr thrown in so i dont think the fish had time to pull out his reference guide on colors before he hit . also the boat i prefished took me east to throw me off for the derby I havent fished sodus before, and he fished west his jaw droped when i thanked him for taking me to his hot spot as he looked in my cooler the first day. like they say sometimes it better to be lucky than good..OH.#1 the bigger thingy
  5. like I said to the queston of slider on wire ' no' you always add mono or 50lb or bigger pwr pro after that and run it after the wire just as the package recomends ,or better yet run all 65lb pwr pro with slider when fish are 100ft or above and youll never need to release a slider to bring a rigger fish in been doing it for 4 yrs now with same pwr pro same knot and swivel keeps your dypsys down when your still in the hot zone but im just a plummer and,

  8. (4 and counting) did i mention 3to 1 at 2.5setting at 2.5ish mph opps with a spinny thing,Irish check the babys diaper sumpting smells like crap when i read your post ... hows the rug rat doing ? keep working on his first word F-I-S-H-I-N-G ,might have room on my tub for the Cayuga louall well stuff little 2 rods in the cabin and put out a nice spread..P.S. hold your ear real close to the water when you listen to the fishies they learned not to talk loud in there schools..BWAHHHHHH ha ha . sorry.
  9. TOLD YA!.ps ive been on the water a couple times.just trying to help
  10. when the lake (turns)hmmm first 39deg water is the heavest lets start there.dont know why i assume that temp has the ability to attract sompting in that lake to make it heaver ,sooo ya got 100 ft of heavy water on the bottom with 45 ft of lighter warmer water sitting on top of it and alls well ,,now ya get a good (or bad) north wind and it blowes a bunch of warm water towards shore as it stacks up on top it forces the cold water deeper and out and your warm water is now 100 ft thick and your 39deg stuff is 45 ft thick at the same location. thats why 1 week your fishing 45 ft and the next your 100 ft down, youll hear someone on the radio say there heading out to find good water where the 39 deg. water is still down a reasonable trolling depth.a steady south wind has the oppisit effeck blowing the warm water out and allowing the cold water to be sucked back in and up....the bad of a north wind is fishing with lots of cable out the good is it narrows the thermo and stacks the fish in a narrower line which also means your perfect depth is critical but the fishing should be good if your in the "zone" extreme north or south wind ant good caus the change happens fast and kinda shocks the fish.usually a flip occures in warmwaether due to the warm water geting thicker thus top heavy causing the lake to flip in a matter of hours the top can go from 75deg to 45 deg over nite sorta like taking a boat and moving the engine to the roof piec by piece after it gets top heavy it flips fast .do some internet homework and yourr find some good drawings to help clarify my rambling ..hope this helps Ray K.
  11. the grapdot is a predomanitly purple face so in my little mind its not a watermelon the mfg probly did a typo as they were naming that spoon,i see you found another excuse for that 3 mile chumline outa sodus, man you get a tiny chop outa the west and its night night ,barf city just once i would like to take a photo of you actually awake and fighting a fish,if you want any of your triple thret breakfast back ill scrape it off the side of the boat , next time work on your projection and distance ,next time you address your captain start with sir....dont make me jump up and punch you in the kneecap again
  12. Im kinda new to this fishing stuff this weekend 337 ft line was pulling fish outa 105 to 110ft zone with spindctr and fly ,i was lerned 1for 3 with 2.5 setting at 2.5ish mph with#1 with small ring that has been accurate for me and i gets lots of fish on the wire so thats how its done on my boat if you look at the chart from top to bottom as the line drag playes in the line out changes from 30 ft out for 15 ft depth 1 for 2 ...to122 out for50 ft down getting closer to 1 for 3 so when your trying to get 70 ft or more with wire and small ring just go to the 3 to 1 ratio unless you want 20 diff answers to confuse the issue K.I.S.S. keep it simple silly (stupid)
  13. drem.,keep your chin up assuming you were running straight lead (no drop weights) a full core put you 40 to 50 ft outa the temp zone (to shallow and warm water). till we get a good south wind for 2 or 3 days your gonna need to get your stuff down in the 100 to 115 ft range thats 120 to 130 on the riggers with 10 lb weights and 20 lb test line at 2.7mph down speed your cables should be swung back near 45degree angle if you dont have down probe park that green spinny with green hyptonest (SIGGS RIG) fly 22" leader 10 ft back from ball and runstraight out to 130 to 150 ft water set up and troll east 2 to 4 mi (the flats) to the glass house youll see it, and you wont be skunked next time, get a R&R grape dot watermelon if sunny and a purple glow in the am down there too check the oak site for more accurate reports but this program should almost guarentee ya a fish ..Ray K.
  14. Tom,1 day off the lake and i think we got a corprate sponser, entry fee and gas, shirts, hats ,but no pants,as you know thats the norm for me, and some equipment maybe we can afford to get a place with horizontal beds
  15. boat name PEGASUS, I usually answer to Ray ,or on the radio PEGASUS.and which item are ya wanting me to supply?
  16. i gots one of those lap dancers opps wrong board i mean lap tops i could bring if needed with a 110 v converter, also its just me on my boat gonna check with a friend to see if he"s got the day off if not i might need 1 to3 guys who wanna jump on at deans cove.........
  17. what was the container made out of that the acid came in ? sorry, i probly wouldnt use any abrasive material on the trans. expermint with a less costly area of the boat with some lime away products .
  18. same thing with mine as i mounted my F/H transducer near my sonar.i only drop my F/H probe a couple times a day to find thermo, and check for currents(down speed) when i do i shut off my sonar and the signal is great then i pullit and get back to fishing.
  19. ok i know it ant normal to double post but after hearing some of the members i met comments ive found out I ANT NORMAL.also my wife said atomic wedgies are not the norm when meeting new people,i think you guys were funning me.we used pliers and sizzors to get it out when we were done my voice was two octives higher and she threw something in the garbage disposal as she muttered FEMALE OBSERVERS .heck when it got hot out saturday and our observer stripped down to her swimsuit  we all kinda became observers on the boat ,muskbob kept (loosing) releasing fish so we could observe longer :wink:for a while i thought he didnt know what he was doing but noticing the drull from the corners of his mouth i think he was more into observing than catching ... sunday got a little bumpy with ocasional 4 ftrs thrown at us ,as the fishing slowed Tom (2 rods) sacraficed his breakfast, and a couple other meals to form a chumline it worked too ,the last 2hours the salmon bite started again with 3 more fish in the cooler and lost 4 in the same waypoint, now picture this...... musky, pretty big 10X size shirts, tom 6ft6 (loosing weight with every wave) and petete little me 200 plus lbs all on the same side of my little alum. 22ftr musta looked like a sailboat tacking in a 30mph wind with the keel outa the water we tried not to do that very often so it was like musical chairs every time we set rods or netted fish to balance the load....THANK YOU Muskybob ,and FISHAMAN for the great weekend and Rick for beinging our team observer ,and Joy for being our boat focus point I mean observer, you were right Billy V we did have a great time and you did miss a bundle of fun that happened in 16 hrs of fishing....on the PEGASUS. and the bonus was we did pretty good too.Ray K.
  20. wow 2 rods that was long winded almost as if you spent the day on the lake sleeping, and you really need counseling about your bolemic problem, tho that chum line may have been the key to the afternoon bite. THANK YOU SIGGS RIGS that green hypnotist was smoking both days, those R&R spoons caught a few salmon off guard also great paint quality keep up the work on the .........opps one more derby dont want to spill all the beans
  21. day 1 -went fishing ,day 2-went fishing, day 3-hmmmm oh i went fishing again.Day 27 entered my first Pro /Am-derby met a bunch of guys who said i was crazy so when i got home i asked the wife and she agreed so it must be so. anyways if anyone who likes to fish should really get into one of these things it was so much fun, it wont be my last ,dont be intimidated,i only got kicked around by some guys at the meeting then i hid behind musky bob and they couldnt find me,plus no one wanted to walk all the way around him to see if i was hiding there. anyways please do yourself a favor and get into one of these derbys. from the chance to meet many members from this board(thanks for the atomic wedgy guys still working on getting it out sorta like pulling out a backlash on wire),to a exciting start, right into a day of focused fishing with extreme care to get every big fish(NO NOT YET ,DONT JAB AT IT,WAIT ,I AM LIFTING ITS HEAD ,MOVE THAT ROD UNDER THIS ONE...NOT THAT ONE!!!!......YES.....) in that net, then the ride back in the shoot with 30 other boats at the same time, some boats lacked proper etiquette thinking bigger ment move outa the way,but 99% of the captians showed there experience and ability to handle ther boat in tight conditions.overall it was the best fishing derby experience i have done dispite a little bumpy water on sunday.Sooo if your looking for a great thing to do on your summer vacation get into one of these derbys or two or three or all four.Ray K.
