dude ,bummer trip hey if ya want a day trip or two im shure one of us could find room on a cooler in the boat for ya , the pen rearing stuff is helping sodus for salmon fishing but is better early for browns or a little later for the big boys , this was the first year outa olcott for me ,and God willing it wont be my last ,ya might plan on that way nxt yr. or the oak then if ya get blown off you can hit the big river ,jump on one of our boats, see the falls,or take a charter .. -

i think i found a new spring home this place is so hot now it even makes me look good ,two rods alone 3 double kings before sunrise then i put out my 10lb test brown rod almost a mistake with a 20lb class king tied me up for 20min with a good 400ft run maybe longer that went on for about 2 hrs then the cohos and steelies took over pulled off the 45/46line and ran west to the 53line over 180ft things started a little slow till about 2 oclock the lake went flat sun out and that little fly (bug) hatch started and the surface came alive with cohos big like 10+ lbs i had several hit the spoon just draging on the surface 30 ft behind the boat i must of went one and a half hours seting one side and reeling in the other glad i have electric riggers, took off for port at 545 and fish were on the surface almost all the way back to olcott 5 miles it was one of those you should of been there days i think someone stuck a fish magnet on the backof my boat hope it stays there for the seneca derby,oh yea the bait was so thick in olcott port /creek there was a wall of bait comming out of the water as i left the dock all the way to the lake in front of the boat that alone was pretty awsome,,,,,,,,, early bite started in 130ft water60 and 70 ft down purple glow spoon (silver horde,)at 70,,, blk/silver(thanks king me)northern king28 at 60 ft ,gold NK lite blank dimpled w or ladder on back w,yellow eye(BILLY) sgl hook1,0 size on slider worked all day in that green water, afternoon silver with yellow stripe on one edge (sunny) and gold sammy pac with yellow stripe 64 and 80 ft down same slider setup i tossed a lot of stuff at them today no spin dctr bites ,no 00dodger fly bite good day to experment stuff that worked last wknd was dead today even with all the fish kept comming back to these few colors and bam they just kept hitting these colors talk about fussy no real trolling direction take that back almost all kings were going west ,cohos and slider bite wernt fussy about direction just locked wheel in big circle and they pretty much hit it as fast as i droped it down....TOM where were you the fish were biting, the fish were biting even saw a couple dead racoons on the way home kinda looked like you went that way another short day 13hr on the water my feet, fingers ,arms, legs hurt from reeling and setting poles, not to mention sunburn on the solar panel (bald spot)

ray koziatek replied to ray koziatek's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
PEGASUS, ya know it will be a little interesting to see the turnout with the ban on live bait (uncertified) ya cant go to waneta and get your own by law . the dec could have a field day near sampson with the live bait guys just like they did with the ice fishermen, should be a few more jiggers and trollers or less boats all togeather .BLACK MARKET SAWBELLIES hmmm definetly wont be any smelt they all came out of niagra and 2 other fingerlakes maybe some of us trollers will have a chance on the brown board......... -

ive posted open invites several times, your the one that waited for the trees to bloom before dragging your boat out, that far up in the hills the snow probly just melted, have you heard of any decent numbers of landlocks getting hooked, might have to put my thinking cap on sat if i hit seneca, if i know me ill run to the oak fri nite for a sat. troll the so. wind rolled in a bunch of cold stuff ,in and spread the fish all over i guess the smart thing would be to do some homework for the seneca derby i hate home work always catch a big one .................

think they have em at capt cove, maybe gander in middletown ,ive been to too many tackle stores latley, maybe a nice patch of racoon tail instead of a fly,i think i know where one is should be in the west bound lane heading east on 18, hey last nite i made salmon bisque with those little cohos mighty tasty even to a burger fliper from rochester just clean the fillets of all latteral line stuff and broil till flaky and mix in the bisque i me cooked dinner for me and wifeys 20 yr annaversary.get your boat back?no big hurry with all this wind heard a bunch of trees were blown down by a micro burst just north of here in a little town named Bath NY lots of damage several campers and boats smashed...at hayes canvas shop..zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

no to squids but have done well with dk green spin dct .w/ gr/wh fly ,better yet "0" DODGER 1/2CHART. 1/2 GREEN w/ gr fly same off ball ,that color dodger is hard to find .should do a laker every 1/2 hr 80 to 120 ft even more if ya got a laker hump and drag this set up over w/ the current ccw.
-
talked to a couple seneca boys and things have slowed for them also,if ya got any woochuck trolling flys skip them on the surface off your outriggers or big boards in the am back 100+, pu/silver small spoons 25 t 30 down ,flour or/wht flutter or light down 15 back15 center rigger in the propwash ,sm/silver black on sliders,if ya got any color water gold w/ or ladder early 20 to 35 dwn also ,or /wht w silver ladder on back should wake something up, might do seneca this sat. i think every sawbelly left in the lake are still up the canal they should be moving back out soon then the s.end should lite up again,

quite your bellyaching after the memorial derby on seneca lake ill be paying the gas barrons again i heard one of those west salmons snuck by us and ran into some guys hook near oooh what the heck is the name of that town, anyways im kinda a oak orchard fisherperson till august ,now if enuf of those salmon get up your way i could turn my steering wheel a little east, but that green water was looking pretty good last wknd. near olcott and will be to the oak in a week or two if the wind behave"s ,then you might have to turn your wheel to the left ,did you enter all three derbys? (loc)

for spoons the 100 rule is a good starting point wind, curent, traffic, spieces, water color, fish mood, release type, and drivers ability all play into equasion too .6 to 15 maybe a little more on spinnies thats about all there is to it unless you figure in temp, line dia.,swivel size, number of hooks 1or 3,lure mfg, ring size on lure, and rpm's of your moter, direction of troll, and sun conditions ,and what type of beer your drinking, and net size..... hope this helps.

yea i had to crack the whip a couple times now that they got a taste of the early bite i sorta changed there minds as to starting times ,one of them mentioned breakfast at 6am before launching fri nite at supper ,never brought it up again after those early bites .not to mention the sunrise, never know how many more of them we will see...............

Cuz i was fishing,if you were at the launch at 5:00 am you would of seen us ,every time i walked past your tent (the bubble)it was empty, that thing would double as a greenhouse during the winter ,sunday at 3:00 in the afternoon when it was sunny and flat the kings were hitting,if i had my choice i would of stayed out longer but some of those old guys on my boat were getting played out after 11 hrs (wimps)
