Use the nesco " original " jerky cure and mix it exact. (real close) 4 lb at a time will fill the dehydrator. If ya have a small shooter its a tad thinner than the bigger one so time will very .... high temp 165..... after 4 to 5 hrs start checking dryness it goes from almost right to dry in a short time ,ive shared with many people and they say its the best they ever had .....and I agree..

sounds like cable is starting to go ,as you said the stainless is good and clean yer breakin the rust free when you lube and work it ,also check to see if spray is hitting cable at different speeds you might be injecting salt water when you run...Bottom line if its the cable ya gotta replace it ant gonna get better specially in salt..

and did ya shoot one Chad,or did ya melt... I have such a place where bucks hole up in the season been that way for the 25 years sence I discovered this....I never go their without snow or before the last day of season ,Why snow, well to be shur 100% of the most recent trail to get in the area, its 100yds long and 50 yds wide , Funny you mention near road as this area borders a main road..This year i stayed out for gun because I got a nice buck earlier ... But my muzzy tag is good , no snow and I wont go but their is a tall tree i can sneak up the branches 50 yds away and sit em out usually their is 4 or 5 nice bucks in their..but one wiff or wrong move and its all over..I have never showed anyone this spot ,But one of the neighbors kid who is gaining my respect might be the first, but it will take a couple years too tell. AND NO! i ant tellin you Chad.

The original name was "woodchuck" Invented by Walter Allen of corning NY. Years ago when he took Ill his wife had me clean out the garage, and sell the tackle and split the procedes. I still have many of the hand tied by Walt down cellar 2.00 each plus shipping if anyone is interested....

Good for you ,ya almost overlead that one,I got a nice 9 pt last year that way.......well not exactly, but low neck shot it........Here Is my excuse: It was the last day of muzzy season and I passed on 2 smaller bucks a 4 pt and a 6 pt,both basket racks..They were early in the morning and after messing up in Indiana,,on a smasher I continued to stalk away. These woods are full of mature loural and me being a tad over 3 ft tall,I had to stay high on the hill ,slowly zigzaging my way down. In a short 8 hours I traveled maybe 1.5 miles total ..saw a few doe so i had to sit them out as not to light up the area..I timed my pattern so at just about dark I would make my final assult on a area where I've seen nice bucks in the past at the "witching hour".....Well Shiver me timbers there was a buck just stood up in front of me at 80-90 yds. All i could do was freeze as he did his little look a bout , after 30 sec or so and a few head twirls he started licking his side to fancy up before looking for the girls. Well I intentionally let my walkin stick drop when I first saw it so I could ready for the shot...Yup nuttin to lean on for a dimming shot (light rain too) just as I touched off the smokepole he was bringing his head around for a final grooming..I musta misjudged his angle or was weaving like a Indian on a loom .. I knew he was hit and pretty good for the way he went into brush removal mode.. I went to where he stood and found tons of hair,so I knew it was a graze shot (thought) ... I followed the trail of leaves and everything turned red just as it turned dark. With no flashlight ,light rain and good blood I was shure he was done. I waddled in high gear back to the van to get my light and drop off the gun..(mistake) but it was dark now . I took my top of the line 88cent flashlight (home depot) and headed back to the trail..oh it was 1/2 mile one way to the van . As i started on the steep part of the hill down comes the rain ,so I pick up the waddle pace ... Well yup lots of blood even in the rain. I'm in major beagle mode for 300 yds then things start to wash out and I have to slow down, Well i worked for the next 50 yds and saw eyes in a blowdown 10 yds in front of me..yup dispite loosing 10 gal of blood he pushes on ,but now he is on empty ,and I used up 85cents worth of battery...I give my brother a call and dispite laying on the couch showered he said he would be right there, um problem was right there was 15 miles away and on top of the hill now so I knew i would be sharing the woods for over a hour waiting for backup flashlight ..well after 5 min the sweat and rain had me wet to the crack of my a s s ,so i went into surival mode ,found some dry leaves and enuf small twigs to get a small fire going luckly a large log protected some dry stuff. The rain stopped and I built the fire into a nice heat source despite the tuff time of gettin a fire big enuf to dry the only fuel left (vertical sticks) ...well 12 hours went by opps 1.5 and my cell rings with my brother within 200 yds .of me (we both have hunted this area for 40 years so 1 instruction put him on me ) I direct him by his light to where the buck was headed, and as we are talking he steps on the buck 70 yds away.. (next time i will buy 2 88cent flashlights).. It was a nice main 8 with a 2in sticker on its base (9)total. Well know nuttin left to do but drag 400 yds to the nearest trail....weeeee... Its was another great adventure and to have my brother there to finalize it (help dragging he he ) it was a great way to end the season...I dont know if i ever scored it but it should go 120 to 130 in . Yes my wife always reminds me "I Ant Right" as i waddle to the shower at 1030 at night ,But days like that are what keeps my Love of Hunting Adventures ALIVE!!! P.S. Ive still got my muzzy tag for this year, tho I have taken a great buck with the rifle .....I know their are 2 really big bucks in that area but its gonna take some snow and 1 day to pattern them before i expect to see one. But stranger thing have happened (belive it or not).................their might be one more story this year, and it will be with a good light in hand in case i screw up another shot..

I have a friend in the keys with twin 250,s its a 26 ft regulator will top out about 48 mph but each engine is suckin 26 gal per hour at 33 mph they draw 14 gph..so at high speed ya ant gettin great gas millage but with 2 motors workin togeather with the right pitch you will beat the pack on a long run if the lake allows..ant no fishin boat gonna survive a 35 mph run in 4 to 5 ft waves...well it will but you wont. If ya ant gonna salt water fish ,or cold weather fish the outboards are just one more thing in the way, and a well maintained io is a good dependable power source my 1989 is powered by a 1975 120 hp and runs as good today as it did new...thats all i got for ya on the subject.......................................hey im justa plummer

last year their were 2 on the porch of a friend of mine within 3 miles of corning,,he is a hunter and knows what a cougar is ,i have never crossed any tracks in the snow over the years where ive been ... but where he is is near muhallond rd which is on a MT. or hill line that crosses over the border (PA.) and is very well posted and protected by natural boundrys.... Heck with all the bear in this area I have only crossed 2 sets of tracks in my life and one i tracked to the bear and got him ..so in the winter i belive much like bears they limit their travel to food sources..areas... Did see a big momma and 2 big cubs first week of gun cubs had to be close to 100 lbs ,so she will be kickin them out this year and maybe a big boy will show up for late muzzle for some fun..Don't think i would ever shoot another bear with a gun but their are still 2 over 400 lbs running around and their path crosses some land i hunt..... Do a "Corning bear fight " search after the fight they both have showed up at on of my customers feeders (Bird) ..he has some cool pics ..the feeder is 5 ft off the ground and these bears sit up on their butts and shake the seeds in their paws..If you know anything about bears that is a big bruiser... -

Well the g3 does sound very whimpy . Dont think it will amount to much as far as that big beautiful rack ... If ya know someone who never shot a buck let them hunt with you if this buck has a good pattern you can put that person on its path. usually smaller rack bucks feel more confidant in daylight hours for some reason. So if ya dont want a bunch of his offspring running around ?????? With that said remember "antler base growth" maybe as a young deer its momma got hit by a car and it had a tuff 1st year.. so it might have Great Genes tho its own antlers will never be much ... Now What? If you have seen big racks with the same shape but bigger that might be the case. If you havent managing your area carefully for 5 years this will be a tuff call as to what he can pass on to his offspring. If ya need the meat you shoot it.... but as i said you could make someones day , by letting a first time take this buck, and it might put a BIG smile on your face too...... -
Now thats cool! what a difference in hide color and neck size...his 2.5 and yers 3.5..Good .no Great Job! over the years when my brother andi tag out their is a great feeling dragging out deer together (tired to). , The radios are fun too now we cell it.Congrats you two..um yer kid drops one at 200 yds and you miss the first shot wonder who tought him how to shoot of course i might of missed once or twice before

Good for you then . with that much land and a safty zone (EVERYONE WHO HAS LAND SHOULD HAVE ONE) yer doing it all right . Plus them are some serious smiles from the results of their hunt..plus some good eating. Good luck on the big boy ,saw bucks running does yesterday ,tho i could of filled the doe tags 10x over im waiting for the coyotes ,3 bear are in their too.The big guys are burning the midnite oil now but a few more days with cold weather the need to feed and a second heat starting their gonna slip up for muzzy season.. I'ma (all of us) waiting fer your big smile standing over a pile of bone. opps its time to get goiung for black friday.................to my treestand

Hmm ,whos first? DOES= here are some observations and info ive picked up over the years. Largest does breed first are are as rare to see as a mature buck... ^^^^^^ tend to find the big bucks and get the job done without resisting and in a secluded place...then they lay close as to not attract younger bucks till the (heat smells) go away. ^^^^^^ In harsh winter conditions large doe can save the heard with her knowlage of food and water sorcess. ^^^^^^ Due to early breeding the drop fawns earlier.. ^^^^^^ will stand up to and fight off preditors to protect their young..and hide them better and in better feed. EARLY BORN FAWNS= they are the ones who will get 2 to3 weeks of more prime food than late born..Biggest rack bucks are typically the first born. This is caused by good pedical growth(antler base) the first year of a bucks life is critical for this reason, because if the food is poor the energy that could go to antler growth (base only) goes to survival. ^^^^^^^^^^^^ In areas with limited high protien food many woods bucks are rarely more than a spike 3 pt or 4 pt.. In farm rich areas and mild winter it is not uncommon to see 1.5 yr 8 pts So if you shoot a young spike or 3 or 4 or 6 pt you just eliminated a monster buck for next year and a smasher in 2 to 3 years.... In summary if you want good deer potential (IMHO): dont shoot mule or hudge does : dont shoot any young bucks.(body size is yer best indicator) :Due put in food plots , Good mineral blocks = like giving vitamins to all deer but critical for pedical growth.. Try to remove coyotes all energy expended on escaping them has big effects ,on development. If ya want a doe take a med one, If ya are limited to time in woods then enjoy yer right to take any buck... If ya see a mature 4 or 6 pt (i have a 18 in 4 pt and a 16 in 6 pt) then do yer heard a favor and eat it.. OK, do some puter lookin at many sites and learn yerself some cool infoas how to compensate for our soil in ny ... How many subspiecies of white tail are their do some reasearch you will be amazed... opps fire is burning low tonight!

looking for new sights on the slug gun. plz help
ray koziatek replied to crumcake1223's topic in Hunting Equipment
When yer eyes get our age 1 day with a scope will change yer mind. And as someone who has had a few slugs buzz by due to someone acquiring a quick target you need to consider that remote possability of a deer miss and the unthinkable event of hitting another hunter...Yes back in the day i did my drives ,so i ant speakin from lack of experiance of deer drives but when that monster jumps up between hunters sometimes the finger goes into action before the brains.. I've seen many deer limp off or take more than 1 shot to kill during drives and so have you. I've sat in my stand and heard more shots on a single drive than I will ever shoot in my next 20 years of hunting.. And I could shoot more deer alone sitting with 1 shot 1 kill( I lernt that in the Marines) than most drivers see in a single season.. Yes flushing a 100 lb animal and winging a few slugs at it with the hopes of a hit had its day in my life then i learned to hunt ... Be Carefull It can happen to you...or your friends... With Concern for our wildlife and Concern for your safety I make such a reality post. Please don't be offended By my post , As my fatherly advise some times gets a little "harsh" when safety "could be a factor"!! Love Pappa Ray K. -
Well over the years we have a lot of good "memories" Those are the ones we photo and display and we try to forget the bad ones tho they haunt us time to time.Maybe we all should have a "Bad Area" to remind us of our mistakes and pass them along to our children so they can learn by our mistakes and realize everything in life has a price. But I am a little envious as my trophy room is in the basement ,seems my wife would prefer paintings ,family photos and cross stich on the walls rather than a bunch of stuffed heads and fish, go figure? Just 2 days ago she said she would approve of photos of my hunting and fishing results in a opps almost forgot the colors need to match Thanks for sharing.

no dont use em those pics i posted are from my "brothers spot".. I stay away from his woods as he has been in them everyday during bow and gun season. (and he cant figure out where all the big bucks went hee hee). Well being a younger brother who dont know nuttin about deer he never listens to me. I still use old school to "read the woods" tho I like lookin at the pics. Was just wiping down the cape of my buck before taking to get it scalped and noticed a straight line straight across its neck gotta love those neck aimers yes 2 inches higher it woulda been some one elses deer.. but a 20 inch chest cavity seems like a better target ,but in the words of my brother ," I don't know nuttin about deer" ,and lookin at his r hind leg i think this is the buck i melted on last bow season,as i hit it right where the scare was (just above the knee joint grazzed it)... hey even a good shooter with a bow can get buck feaver on a rack like that so its a double reward to finally get to hug its rack.. Soooooo I guess i could say i got it with my bow or gun just don't have to elaborate on which one killed it...
