  1. I (we) got in a Scotty once ,Ok my head got a little swelled up after doing "fair" in some pro/ams. Yes after day one my team forced me on stage with our 1- 13 lb salmon,as they hid in the bushes..definatly a humbling experiance. Now the behind the scenes was we lost 4 fish tangled everything once or twice and in the 3 to 5ft seas with a good side wind had a new thrown togeather team struggling for proper speed and unfamilur with my equipment had a few breakoffs so hey we mighta done ok..day two was worse conditions with 6 to 8ftrs and we were pretty shure we wernt gonna sweep the field so we tucked our tails and left early (for home) sunday.. Whats this got to do with the Pro/Ams..................I think it cost 500.00 to get in and the payout was 18.000.00 i think...pretty big whatever it was..drawing in teams from all over with paintjobs and more sponcers on the sides of them than a years wirth of GLA.magizine. Big payouts draws big fields. If ya wanna get into next years Pro/Ams get a team togeather now and fish togeather this year and start makin plans,,find out yer weak spots and compatability, and get familure with the boat and its equipment.. Good Teamwork produce Good Results.. Be prepared for all kinds of weather ,when yer fun fishing you wouldnt want to go out in 4 ftrs, but 4 ftrs in a derby are possable ,as ya cant control ma nature,, If ya done it before youll be ready,,mentaly and know what to run and what not to run The Pro/Ams have always been open comm.for the derbys We have been in No one ever talked us to that honey hole in the lake But "stories"have been told at weighin that some had some cell phone guidence that put them in front of the field .. Kinda tuff to lay out big bucks to get beat with a phone call.Plus it takes away the Pride of "WE Did It On Our Own !!! " Ive never fished in" the old how it was derbys" But have heard many many times thats what folks want so i have "0" ability to commet other than that.. I did like the old Pro.,,,,,..Am.,,,,,.and Open setup.. Tho having 1 more "class""Open" adds a lot more work for current Folks running the derbys.. Maybe the open could be put togeather and run by each port ,as the rules are a little less strict.. Heck the boys at Sandy Creek tossed togeather a derby with over 40 boats in it and probly closer to 50... Why Have the Open At All ???? Well ya gotta get yer feet wet in the Pro/Ams...,,, To have a common weighin the new guys will see how its done ,Meet some old pros (like vince) , did i mention OLD. P.S. its easier to be a armchair referee so forgive me for adding a few more thoughts, but after i get my kids through collage (Daughter went back for doctorial) $16,000.00 new flute = (another new boat gone) and my son just starting 2nd year,Im scrappin bottom for another year or two But hope to Get back into it in sooner than later.. Thanks Ray K.
  2. pieces of hose stuck in needle valve ??
  3. yea it ant like its gotta be perfect i actually angle mine back a tad to show my weights and lures better..I can change my background color just by adjusting sensitivty as far as the yellow /blue goes but overall background ya gotta go to setup(sonar settings ) I think...oh dont forget manual depth setting seems like if it says 2 ft thats all it will show on screen 0-20 ft ya could be lookin at "surface clutter" with my fishawk and sonar on i do get some goofy interference also....
  4. yup moter interferrence , also ya runnin more than 1 unit? go to manual sensitivity, manual depth,is yer ,transducer clean? and transducer angle .. sometimes mine works like a real fishfinder other times i swear im driving over vacent waters ...I made the mistake of buying a eagle, lorance too...oh well live and learn...
  5. Hello "team Pegasus" pronounced--- peg-ass-us
  6. How nice to have others offer suggestions without someone jumpin on them...some of my memories that I thought were cool to have pics are: The weigh in line ya almost never see 50 or 60 coolers in a row with some pretty beat guys waiting.. The fish check station should have a few shots explaining whats going on..them guys must get some pretty tired arms lifting 100,s of fish.. The dec fish check, and how they use the valuable information to better monitor our fisheries, with a little clip info and tracking devices..(chips) The total poundage will blow away someone who never heard the total weight for the weekend.. And how some communties use the fish not needed by the fishermen, for church dinners and feeding the hungry and a note of "bring a Cooler" its a pretty shure thing you will be able to take a few home,If ya like fish.. We all have noticed the drop in numbers of entrys , Tho many teams sre still in from the first tourny many years ago. The main reason we Were hesetant years ago to "Get In " was the invision of teams able to put fish in the cooler at will ,well it ant that way if you see the boats racing in at deadline at the piers you know many struggle to get a full box..Hey if ya shut down on a good pod of fish Yer "Golden" as long as their willin to play, sudden storms or currents can "Level The Field" as we say and a week of prefishing doesnt always mean yer gonna do good.. So ya have plenty of time to get a team togeather for next year...maybe a "what to expect" flier could be made so teams could make shure they feel comfy at their first "Captians Meeting"..Many who have fished 1 or more derbys tend to forget that first time through the door can be Nervracking to say the least .. As stated winning is cool but to share the PRO/AM experiance is something all fishermen need to do..once in yer lifetime. HEY YA GOTTA BE IN IT TO WIN IT! I'll bet if ya called the comittie members (give em a couple weeks to recover) they would welcome ya with open arms to help set up tents , hang ,sponcer banners, set up stage and soundsystems, help with trash, and all the little details that Help make the Pro/Ams so exciting... Ray K.
  7. I like the new change of 1 rod rule for boats over 22 ft... great idea...
  8. Geese it would be shame if a big boat sorta sunk sideways in the marina inlet.....
  9. look in the sky its a bird ,no a plane ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, OMG DON'T LOOK ITS RAY K.
  10. Also check yer speed maybe yer runnin to slow and yer attracting old fish and the creakin is commin from the balls up.
  11. creaked ,cracked all the same ya talkin cable hum,,,,is the creak happening when you move ? could be you!! man ya should be able to isolate it with hand pressure ant like their are more than 5 moving parts..even tho yer mounting screws seem tight on top maybe their is some play under the gunnal where the nuts are,,,have ya checked yer nuts latly?
  12. depends how deep ya want to be ,lead is usually shallow presentation 5 to 50 ftmax ish, dypsy deep.. 50 to 120 ft..your choice...whats yer intention (fish to target)
  13. Hmm scott ill call jerry to see if he will cover me till i see ya......orrrr Ill bring up 6 lobster for ya if you cover me!

  18. Just kidding ,Over the years ye get the sameoll rightious folks that gotta try to stir the pot whenever anyone but them give Ideas or suggestions to make Improvements ...If everything goes their way all is good but if their is a mixup or problem then look out!! When im at the events my ears hear a lot of things , and its always about the same oll people.. So Father, Son "Team Pegasus" will be Taking Jonnie's and others money home.!!!! Crap I thought the summer loc ended at sodus Pro Am too....must be gettin old seems like it did in the past...
  19. It really sounds like water , I got some in my small tank once ,almost would run then die pull 1000 times and mess with choke kinda fired putt a little bit then nuttin was very small amount of water as i did get it going sputtering away till all water passed...dont forget to drain the fuel line before ya test out new fuel.
  20. Hey if yA don't want it i could make a "Air Brake" to slow my boat as i approace shore..Or BIG DAVE a "T" shirt
  21. As gambler says the swivels are great,.... also as metioned and as I do is line tie 20lb "p" line or other good line about a 30 ft leader, then ya ant got no ff in the release either..Then just in case you break off yer not tossin 4or 5 more bucks to the Lake gods.
