had a thick 6 pt and a 4 pt cross in front of me about 8 am nice to watch but not enuf antler for a good bowl of adrondack antler chowder...Ill bring the camera tonight..

the minerals are for the horses but the deer ,fox coons, and even coyotes have been seen on the camera, even have a pic of a field mouse standing on top,,probly mighty mouse by now....thought I saw a couple cats with black eyes runnin around but thanks.. NY policies of not feeding deer seem a little foolish as ,food plots, corn, and other crops, bring many deer to one concentrated area anyways.. I dont agree with hunting over bait but any experianced hunter would prefer a setupon the edge or a trail leading to a good crop area.... due to the tame actions of the deer near the pasture including the 11 pt I would never hunt them ,kinda like shooting fish in a barrel, but their fun to see up close.. Id rather stalk a smaller buck in the woods for a good shot. to me their ant nuttin better than still hunting with a bow or gun. Many would be amazed at what you can see traviling at .01 mph or slower . 95% of my ny bucks were taken this way.

pretty good width

minerals are all done in early spring and summer and well out of gun range and sight from nearest hunting area .....these are spacific for antler groth only. The highly and properly fertalized food plot has helped all the deer increase body mass in that area even the does look pretty "beefy" for this time of year..Dont worry I wont be chasing this deer ,not that im fussy ,If i was stalkin in the woods and saw this i'd drop it in a second, but were trying to get some good genitics in this area ...so if the poachers dont get it it will breed another time ....

nice fish ,also some of the best eating fish ive ever had... Thats the beauty of our little fishing, hunting ,whining, and bashing site L.O.U... we get reports from all over tho all of us cant be their, but it does plant that little seed in the oll skull and some day well pull off the trip of a lifetime that others take for granted due to where we live.. A good day striper fishing should be on any fishermans bucket list...maybe next year I should make the spring striper run a week long trip and get a few of the old farts of our site a chance to feel the pull of a good striper..........

yea probly taste awful,,,,last year it was a small 10 pt and was first deer on property to drop a rack.....ill see if i can dig up some pics from last year , it was tight to its ears maybe 14 in spread and really had the look of a 1.5 ..last yr in indiana i chatted with the close friend of this bad boy (largest rack in capitivity ) he gave me some mineral tips....this big one is 3.5 yr so maybe that mineral mix kicked in on the 11pt if so maybe ill sell the recipe..

Well this is one of the favorite sayings of my Dad to me over the years of growing up. as 1 of a poor family of 8 I saw many toys and items I wanted ,,,,,and Dad would say.. IF ITS MEANT TO BE IT WILL HAPPEN!!!! boy those were some hard words to hear at times... Well this last winter my friend ,Don from Indiana past after a long battle with cancer. Every year we drove home from our "hunt of a lifetime" (5yrs) we knew one trip would be our last.... After experiencing such great hunting we decided to lease some land in ohio or indiana... Well tho each lease we checked out seemed great, just something didnt feel right.. My friend and I said after many attempts lease lets just stay home this year (hunt ny) And I said "If ITS MEANT TO HAPPEN SOMETHING WILL!!! yup even at 54yrs those words of my youth were hard to say........ WELL last nite We got a call from Indiana from "Don's Sons" ----They Invited us out to hunt "THE FARM" one more time....We were close to tears with that call....some happy some sad, some excitement....but mostly because the first thing we discussed we the words of my dad from many years ago that are embedded in my(our) faith........ "IF ITS MEANT TO BE IT WILL HAPPEN"

Well in the morning Ill put on the coffee and before the brew stops my oll buddy is right at my feet waiting for his treat...........when i pull in the driveway tho he was deaf he was at the door, when i went to the basement he layed at the top of the stairs for my return, after a fishing trip he waited at the back gate cause he knew their was some cold cuts left over from the trip, when cleaning my deer in the shed he would wait for the scraps (inner loin) to be cut and welcome the little slip of the knife that gave him that prime cut..When I ate in my chair it was always "dinner for two" ,and never did a ice cream bowl get put in the sink that wasnt licked clean... Yup we all have had those special friends come and go,maybe im getting old and mushy but boy O'LL RILEY WILL BE MISSED !!! Yes this is MY first morning without my friend of ten plus years.... Ray K.

Good post,Self, and Rick, I'll Bet some great stories Have been forever lost with his passing. Over the years I've taken a "few" old timers out and love to hear them all. The lessons of "LIFE" shared by others give us all that special feeling of connection with that person. One of the best parts of derbys to me is hearing all the "stories" of the good oll days. This year when one Captian was awarded a big ball of copper stuck to a board was a good short example. Not to get "Too" all warm and fuzzy a short "open Mike" at each (indoor) Capt.meeting might get a few lafs ..and break the ice for many to get to know each other. And as ive said before when them new guys step up to the plate for the first Derby, give them a little introduction to the old timers who all shared those jitters many years ago. And Yes tho I never knew this man, but Im shure ive learned something from him from the trickle down effect of succesful fishing on "OUR POND" -
Good Job Guys ...............Its pretty cool to see some one look for that special part, and get some hard to find stuff. "My cousin earl knows fred who dated sams sister with a wooden leg whos neighbor has a bunch of stuff " ................................. ..........................

in the last 40 yrs ive seen a handfull of severly tumored deer. never 1 big one, but some with a few to some so bad I felt it was proper to leave it lay , as much as thats not my style. Ive seen it in ,Indiana,Ohio,New York And pa. so it ant a local thing (Hot Landfill)..as we know a mother animal has the ability to sence in some way a defect in their young (usally the cause of a runt of the litter or total neglect). So I would think it is not detectable at birth by the mother..
