  1. Almost tuff to answer .....15in is min size for salmon by reg book ,,,,(cept atlantic) so as i understand the 18 in was used for min fish kill or stress from releasing and still adding a 3 or 4 lb s to weight, yes many fish are removed and highly visable at one place during the pro ams but this is only 60 to 70 boats for 1 weekend imagine the fish removed from charters and recs. who fish 6 to 7 days a week x 1000pluss boats lakewide you do the math....Ok Ok ill try to answer the loc size limit with a straight face, imagine how many fish would be left floating if 10lb brown, laker, steelie, were persude ,let alone 20 lb salmon.....also that would be targeting the "prime spawing fish"(max number eggs and genitics) gotta get some coffee brb...........................
  2. Thanks Dan it was pretty quiet here 12 years ago when the 18ftr fiberglass turned into a 22ft alum....okok i get the stealth part but im gonna look kinda foolish headin out to the pro ams with a 12' jonboat 42 in cooler 4 downriggers plainer mast and 20 rods sittin on top of the van.....ill give it a try..
  3. Hmm this particular damage,,,,,well no need to mention names ..I used a good grade 2 part epoxy then sorta feathered it around the cracked area to sorta act as extra support probly a tiny square of fiberglass cloth worked in at the same time wouldnt hurt..
  4. hey do you guys have any video of the rod and line when that rainbow first hit, heard their was a very unuasual way to get the bow to hit?? Story I heard Jerry wasnt the only one using his head ,,,, But that might of been a rumor The Capt. or rod setter is a very Important part of a PRO/AM FISHING "TEAM". A " WELL-OILED-TEAM" With a GREAT """"""DRIVER"""""""(hint 2nd most important if not 1st ),,,,,,,, ROD men who pay attention to detail,And a Perfect Net job..are what makes a good setup work.... course a few fish willin to play dont hurt. And when and if a big fish should get off its nice to have extra guys to head to the cabin to retrive ""the bad,bad pole" that might get carefully placed their from the back of the boat... Their are some other secrets nice to have on board at times ,popcorn,mustard,ballons.ect. ect.. So Larry,Jerry,Pat,and Rob,,,GREAT PRO/AM TEAM EFFORT !!!!!!!
  5. heres some good basic beginer info that will help the new guys understand whats going on in the water ,click on attheoak site for some basic setups then all ya gotta do is appy it................http://www.attheoak.com/anderson/Therma ... ine.html...
  6. kinda streachin the size but it dont hurt to look .................just hurts when ya buy and bring home .......Wack
  7. Glad ya clearified the guard dog thing i thought they were takin a leak..guess that droupy rod is a fishin pole ,sorry pat..and rob
  8. Add a second bridge try to get it up to 20 to 30 ft so you can read the water better and be shure to slip it behind a 10 ft bridge clearance port,,,,specially when yer fishin against me so it will leavel the playing field a little ... Thank You Ray K. Hope This Helps........................(me)
  9. Capt. Jerry ive been lookin at running 2 probes could you take me for a 8 hour demo ride too.....................Sunny buffy day of course....the boat i was on this week ran the Raider the speed was so hot dispite the reading on the guage heavy spoons were needed and spinny program was dead ...Its amazing what a few tenths of a mph. will do to a setup. Also the digital readout is the same from any angle (no needle guage). Judging surface speed from a boat after sever thousand hours on the water is easy.......kinda like judging the timing of a red light in yer hometown.....But the downspeed needs to be "dead on" if yer gonna match yer spread (lure weight,spinny,meat,stickbait..........spicies.....ect ect...thus the 3 s's speed,speed,speed.......my old 840 will work down to 110 ft if ya ant match yer angles tho its rare i fish there ..i have found currents below 100 ft are pretty stable with the goofy currents mostly occuring between 30 and 80 ft.........but a good wind in any direction will have ya scratching yer head and double guessing yer cable blowback...without a good down speed thingy....X 4 would be my startin recomendations....
  10. Double PS. Due to the honesty of some of my post I get the EVIL EYE at some at these events.Niagra had a boat who kinda twitched his watch , A screwup that cost his team a place on the board I dont know all the details but "rumor control" confirmed it before the Official decision. A tournement that Has Its Own Magazine and TV coverage needs to monitor its own rules ,review every form, and enforce every infraction Before signing any checks..... Im justa plummer savin my money for the next event...........only 23 days 14 hrs and 2 min from starting but who counting
  11. Atlantics and high jumping steelies will put some grey hairs on yer head in a derby..Nice job getting it in the net.......Ill bet their are a few words that were shared on the boat that were left outa the report.....
  12. ladygill, this is a Gentelmens Agreement, .................take a peek at the weights of this last derby,a good wind will wipe out everyones program, and level the field. And as far as the ability to comm. sorta helping east guys fish west better visa versa ,,umm yea it Could help......But actually it gives the home port more of a edge.. Lets say yer home port has 5 boats in the derby, well yer a nice guy well liked with 30 friends out fishing that day (non derby) one of yer friends hits the mother load ,wanting to help his strugglin buddy because of a east blow.... Do you think he will get on the radio to help the guys he doesnt know who drive 5 to 15 hours spend many hundreds just to get to the lake and hotel and food bills and helping the local economy at least for derby week? Or dial his friend who pulls into the slip next to him drives 5 min home to a hot meal, shower,tv,AND MICROWAVE POPCORN AND ICECREAM (the last 2 really hurt). Imagine a little guy (AM) like me who couldnt prefish ,worked to the last min rushed to the lake (2HR) ,spent more than he should of ,gets beat up by wind waves and rain..Then finds out the winning team "Worked With Their PRO Friend " (or local) Doubles the score over the rest of the field and cleans up at weighin... How would your attitude be to the Pro / Ams ??? A. Gosh its nice to hand my money to a stranger with local friends. Ill do it again next week OH BOY.. B. This stinks I had a great time met some great guys ,But I'm sick of havin my A$$ handed to me due to a Phone call....Probly will be my last derby.............. But Hey Im justa plummer................................................. With that said "Osweago here I (we) come" see ya all there and ill have some duct tape on my with any luck it wont get handed to me.. PS. ITS NOT JUST A FISHING TOURNEMENT IT IS THE "PRO/AM" ALL RULES FROM THE CAPTIANS MEETIN TO THE LAST FISH WEIGHED IN NEED TO BE ENFORCED.............
  13. Shhh dont tell the wife, kinda JUST lookin 23 24 ftr outboard preferred, sumptin with a little deadrise
  14. Ahh yes fishin in a derby when it happens a nice 20lb pluss takes the bait ,the captian reels it in waiting for the precision swipe of the net to end the 20 min struggle. The net man pulls out the note pad and opens to the "how to net"" section just then the wind blows it from his shakin, sweating hands..........................he does his best putting the net in the water as the fishes head approaches,,,,,,,,,,and then,,,,,and then .............ahh who cares
  15. Opps OK OK so at least i started it with a vowel...... http://www.fish307.com/legendaryproductsreleases.aspx I cant help it if those canadians cant spell
  16. yea i thought i senceed some spellin problemms too..If i put all three rods out on the same side of the canoe and 3 big fish hit at the same time I might tip over and drown....maybe 3 would be a little dangerious. Geese I hope they spend another 500,000.00 to check out the safrty side of 3 rods.
  17. dont use a roemer, for a slider ,unless you mean the liberator, the alberta clipper is a tad easier than the liberator....
  18. Rod stay home NO prefishing is allowed ..........................Till I get their
  19. Their was good fish inside , we had to run almost 1 mile to find them fri, sat, and sunday. real gas burner,,,,,Well lesson learned the hard way, kinda unethical ,but the temptation of folowing a good boat ,specialy in a derby is pretty great. The close thing ant too good, but whats behind ya ya done missed anyway. A radio call should be all it takes to get him to back off a tad.Or a old ten color with a floating lure.,,, . With 12 boats within 30 points after the first day left the field open for many. we outfished 6 but finished 6th due to the rule infraction. Charters have to put up with crap like that all the time ,but if ya ant in their spread they dont mind a well clear pass , and to shdow from the side at a few hundred yards unless their workin a way-point will be accepted ,But dont mess up their spot if ya followed them to it just slide one way or the other.their is a lot of "fishy"water out there and when ya do it on yer own youll be able to buffy fish all ya want................. ................. til a blowboat pulls up to ya 10 miles offshore
  20. How about one of these handed out to each observer ? http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-% ... _THUMBNAIL
  21. Tom I was gonna say that , but I was afraid it would go over many folks heads...Did you take in account for a cloudy day where only 10 or 11 of the satellites may have a lock on? Wow Wonder if 14 satellites would be more accurate?
