  5. If ya get to know Capt.ron (buckaroo) ya might find 1 or 2 dressed red spoons salmon love em in the good green water , when things clear up a bit or ya slip outside of the pea green water then break out the purple.....stick a red eye (hook end) and a tad of lazor on almost any spoon and yer gonna get fish, silver cup is a good thing this time of year too .. think i might invest in purple before gettin too nuts on red..(spoons)
  6. Yabita ,yabita, yabita, do I hear 125.00 ,comon 125.00 for this hunk of a man,hes a little fat,and balding he even comes with CLOTHES, (no buffy observing waters too cold) If yer lucky he'll bring his bride
  7. Very well put chris,,,,Yes their is something very addicting about lake Ontario. The 120 mile drive (one way) seemed a little far to "Just Fish".. Then in the words of a friend many years ago answering my question : If those guys (on the radio) lost a fish how do they know it was a salmon ??? As if on cue a rigger rod poped and in the middle of a 300 ft run with the reel screaming he turns his head gives me a s h i t eatin grin points to the reel which seems like its gonna explode and says "THIS IS HOW THEY KNOW IT WAS A SALMON " Yup i was hooked . PS. DEL (liq.plummer) is one of the best rec fishermen on lake ontario so if ya wanna sharpen yer learing curve , have some great company, and from the post above hava beer or two. The Pro/Ams Experiance will get yer blood flowing,Being a observer or capt. of a crew on yer own boat. It should be something every one who loves to fish should try at least once...................um twice..................ahh maybe one more.......to "Are We There Yet"
  8. mmmMMMMmmmm sushi !!! Id probly cut yer losses and pass on that fish, like johnie (moto) said some claim ya can cut away what ya can see but the thought alone will haunt every bite ...My momma always said their is more than one fish in the ocean.
  9. might their be a story to go along with this sale
  10. hmm" high and tight " , or "in the wash",or "doing laundry" are some of the terms youll hear this time of year just for that reason ,keep something 5 ft down 15 ft back (fixed or main..)..if ya got 3 or more riggers set up a " trap " spread.................Even 2 riggers with a drop weight down the chute will work
  11. Im with ya on the copper, lots of work with no significant results over riggers and dypsys,at least on the fingerlakes. Id probly go back to sethgreen first i can put out a 5 spoon rig faster than 400 ft copper. Tho the meatrods ant left the basement in about 7 years. To me their ant nuttin better than a 8 rod 4 rigger setup,no tangles , or reelin yer arms off, or popin a dypsy and clearin a side (tho i like the dypsys). Course a few years back i had 7 rods go off almost at the same time on the riggers,no tangles ,I think that was the same year I was reminded by the DEC of the 2 rod rule added another 125.00 to that trip real quick.... glad i didnt have out the "full spread"
  12. mabee if i me rote the ruuls i t coulder be mucher beterest fer al. seein me ant gonna bee inn the Pro/Ams Illll doo the dirty work give me the clipboar with a 2 day derby the teams that want to share info will have their chance after weigh in, now i will be sellin my secret salmon attracterant 1drop will guarentee ya first place only 25.00 a ounce please purchase at captians meeting ,as i need to catch the first plane outa the country at 7pm friday,,,and you wont see me again.
  13. huh with scotties ? stupid fish...........the jumper spinner is cool but not in the derby,,,,do ya pop the sliders ? try tighting the main release and let the fish set the hook on the slider its self and then release or wait it out to release its self ...nudder thing look at the main line many times in the spring them skippys hit the spoon and keep heading forward thats why if ya give em a few seconds they panic and pull backwards and down thus releasing the main their selfs....coures a good fishfinder and fishawk helps too!
  14. crap gonna be little longer wait for my new kicker....
  15. power pro is a great line ,little (lot) pricy but the rod i spooled with 7 years ago is still lookin good 1st 100 ft is a little hairy (slight fuz from twilly wear),but never had a knot fail tho every year i retie the end swivel (dypsy rod) for inshurance.. No streach is any "BRAIDED" lines good side for good hookups when longlining. I would probly never replace my mono for rigger use with braided ,but next year in fla.ill have 2 or 3 reel setups for trollin(longline) big king mackeral them things have a way of spittin a double treble balleyhoo rig as fast as they hit it.................but not next year
  16. this 17 million fishfinder might explain, http://coastwatch.glerl.noaa.gov/modis/ ... 3.250m.jpg
