  1. yea the pics were takin in the boat.. nice and comfy
  2. hmmm http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/USNY1003 http://www.rung.us/chas/rivtemp.pl just called my "hotline" the day we did 35plus his buddy did 50 plus BUT HE fished both tides ,the fish are now hanging (stayin in newburgh) with 20 a day despite river temp drop of 1 deg, hate to play in the weekend crowd (makes fall derby fishing outa salmon river seem like wide open water) but the weather is shapin up for the weekend.......need bait order in by thurs morning................
  3. these spoons have "old charters" written all over them in the right conditions and hands bout 90 % are as good today as they were in the 80,s some good ole stuff there,,,,, they got west end spoons written all over them
  4. Ive got 2 of those fishing books laying around somewhere here are a few pics..from early (pre 1953 rods )to present... the bambo is a Horrack Ibbotson Co. from Utica Ny Pre 1953 vintage 5'6" 2 pc called "the king" tonkin cane it was used for early sethgreen and lead core fishing.. The steel 3 ft pole was from mid 50's fprimarly for lead and somee iced fished with it too. The 1 pc 6'6" fiberglass with rollertip was used from early 60's to date. The Penn 309 was the prefferd reel for its durability and strong clicker that actually would add to the "drag"when set right to prevent creeping and ease of deploying lures (plus it would wake up the sleepin fisherman) this 309 is from the 60's and works as good as the day it was made ive owned it for 30 years and never took a screw out just lube where yer supposed to. !st thing lernt me was to spread level guide tho most used standard reels and guided line with thumb newer rollertips are a tad tight too a little modifacation lets the swivels through.. this is "a pine valley spinner as you see its a early version of the more popular "hemlock spinner" pine valley spoon co was a pre 60's mfg long gone this is a way i figured out how to store ,deploy and retrive indivual leaders as i set lines or changed spoons ..I tossed all my "Sesth green storage boxes" Back in the day i would have premade ,labled mainlines in case of total loss,or desire to change spacing. here are some different shape weights from 16oz to 32 oz .........16oz was a spinner, twin minnow or single lure ,32 oz is most common esed for the 5 spoon setup. this might give ya a idea of weight and swivel location...........this is not the usual swivel spacing just one i made up to sorta resemble a school of fish using 1 ft leaders ,never ran it enuf to really tell if it worked..... Ah yes brings back the days of learing to fish and before downriggers my sethgreen ant been wet for 14 years or so
  5. Dont make me break out the tuna can (pegasus),,,hmm 2700.00 and never got a fish now thats my kind of derby.... I got the "never caught a fish part down "
  6. these are great colors with many other varations that work well ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,sometimes a suttle difference matches the mood of the fish...... nuther thing is daylight or lack of ,sunny day, flat 0 wind, light chop (lightrefraction and diffusion),perfect salmon chop (about 1to2 ft) angle of sun (light refraction absorbtion),water clarity, temp, dept of fish (lure depth) ahhnuttin to it just drag what works for you ...oh did i mention speed, speed, speed not too much to do with color just presintation, then ya got a 330 troll with a 260 wind with a east flowing down current,so make shure yer down speed reflects your sog on the gps for quick reference ,try to keep the lines running true to yer troll direction so their running straight out ,that seems to help you setup you know the "v" ,the "trap" the "w" ,yea some add a down and out for a last look while others run mag rins shorten em up to help the "trap"setup I prefer standard rings using 2.5 setting for a 3to 1 dive ratio to find out what the mood of the fish are for the day.., thats where the fishfinder pic can help determine a agressive condition or a spooky day....well ill hold back on givin too much advise at one time as to not confuse ya .... Hope This Helps Ray K.
  7. what kind of stains,,, if its brown like crap try toilet paper..... is it stained ,or a bunch of black embedded in the poors of sun deterorated gell coat,,,,,,,,,,bad rust stains will probly call for elbow grease and comet and a little more elbow grease..........Hey my observer cleaned my whole boat-----------um er forget that last part...if its black or crap embedded in pores try water with about 2500psi behind it (powerwasher) steam jenny is better but hard to come by...
  8. ooooooo ka ka !!!! http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.ph ... &map.y=115
  9. Hey i got it the 2nd time through ,,,pretty much as Sk8 said only improvement ive add is using power pro vers dacron for dia. reasons,,also get one of those cheep single action fly reels (old used one is fine ) as i bring the mainline when done fishing and letting out you can CLOSE the swivel to another and reel in the leader line for each deployment or retival with NO mess or tangles also if i missed it in either of his post if you use 15ft spacing (my preference) do not make yer leaders longer than that 15 spacing or ya could make the mother of all tangles Ie .15 ft space =10 to 12 max length leader...the sethgreen is called "meatrod" for the fact it was a assured way to put "meat" in the boat it is kinda different way to fish but after handlining that last 12ft of leader and loosing a trophy fish ya might go back to other methouds real quick..
  10. dude if ya saw me ya should of come over for 25.00 each id sold ya some secret bait ........................ 607 769 7947 tide is IMPORTANT too. If we fished the 715 pm high tide we would of easly got 30 more fish thursday...had the radio on 68 for a bit but them gabbers were worse than the fishfinder beeps so i turned em both off......might be a good or doable window ofweather sun,mon.. if so i might run back out if the reports are good.........they gotta be. You wernt one of the 3 guys in that 16ftr we trippled ,doubled and about 10 singles in 1/2 hr right next to them i could hear them saying what the h#ll are they using..one guy even pulled out the binocs
  11. well expected to see musky there not he younger brother ,,,, thats a cool report thanks hank. Oh as far as the roll call im gonna call tomorrow to see if i can get a stick to tie up to (my son and i ) In years past I would leave cathrine creek drive to the nearest phone and reserve a slip when the office opened at 8 am april 1st to start takin slip reservations........this will be my 13th year with someone on the boat (mine) in the money 4 times ,,never a big win YET !!!!!! I will sell maps of my secret spots for 25.00 each If all goes well we'll be in it from the trailer or the dock.. PEGASUS.
  12. Hey papa (gramps) ,hey over 5 lbs for a 19incher ant bad most lakers that size 19in are in the 2lb range..opps just looked at pic im so used to your laker reports i just didnt look at another pic ,,,by golly ya done extended another branch of the family tree. With you at the helm training all them grandkids Mc Donalds will have some of the finest burger flippers in its History.. Congrats to yer whole family on yer addition.. (ps) something tells me yer gonna spoil another one.....
  13. little quicker than marking, hookin up the boat, driving to the lake ,take a chance on a complete failure, Retrailering ,comming home then taking the prop off... Glad ya got it under control
  14. me thinks spun hub pull the prop and check it out....
  15. east wind ant never good (99%) of the time.....In the spring its even worse for the majority of kings cause it pushes the bait back to canadian waters, justa a guess but ill bet the top boats were outa the country............cold ,wind, and rain and tuff fishing(catchin) ,makes for a long miserable day. My suggestion enjoy the TV for a few more days.. http://www.attheoak.com might give ya a little insite too....the web cam will show ya realtime skys and what if any boat in the forground move tho most charters are behind the channel...check the camera around 6 am when mst guys (charters)head out..... plus ya might not wanna go home with fishing rods like this viewtopic.php?f=2&t=24390
  16. hey ya never know !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! amature wins,,,,, http://www.flwoutdoors.com/walleyefishi ... lake-erie/ landshark ya shoulda went.........I would of partnered with ya..
  17. their is a big rip off the point of p-town problem is ive haerd it can go from sorta calm to 6 ft rollin current when tid gets in full swing toss in a few great whites and ill go for smaller ones and battle the seals or the surf.. just remember ya gotta use 15lb mainline and 12lb leader to compare fishing numbers and light duty rods.........if you do that the capt. will toss you in for shark bait...........
  18. Ill have my flatback with 4 hp do any sneak around p town to the bay or ya gotta hit the big water ...and i have a friend near brewster who is big on ssurf fishing..maybe ill bring acouple surf rods too I use the launch (think hemingway road or something like that) just past the fort headin to p town ,cross the backwater and have the whole beach (island) south of "Coastguard beach" to my self.well almost i see fish bustin in the curl all the time just never targeted them..
  19. not even 1 little 10lb landlock on a stringer
  20. we.ll be on the cape aug 13th-29th (with no boat hint, hint) i cant do sign language but i can YELLreal LOUD... .I know the main run on stripers will be gone but cod would be nice and tasty...
  21. musta kinda stunk # of fish overplaced weight... kinda different... looks like if ya had 6 no matter what the weight yer in the money 6 -3lbrs hey i might of done that unless their was a weight restriction.. Yea with names like that Jonnie cash would of never wrote "a boy named sue"
