For the 10th year in a row we will be having our last meeting of the year at the Salmon River hatchery. It is October 15th at 7pm in the meeting room at the Hatchery. This is our opportunity to talk with Dave Lemon and his staff about the fishery and to hear updates from Andy Gruelwich the hatchery manager on how the egg take is proceeding. We will also have Scott Prindle there as well he is our region 7 biologist and is tasked with all the Net Pens in our area. This is a great time to meet and interact with our local regional people. I hope to see you all there. Brian

Oswego Reports?
Tall Tails replied to reillym's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Dr Lou out of curiosity were those kings clipped or not that you were catching there? -
Yes they do. They have a committee. Tom at Capt Jacks is very involved. And last I heard had his staff do the feeding.

Jeff, I struggled for a few years trying to find a load that would shoot out of a Remington 870 20 gauge rifled deer gun for Marlene. Made to shoot slugs. I tried everything. The best shooting slugs were the cheap rifled remington slugs that wal mart sells. I couldnt believe it after spending countless dollars trying to find a straight shooting slug from this gun. Cortland Wal Mart has them.

anyone running the new raymarine evolution autopilot?
Tall Tails replied to KING ME's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Ditto what Tom said. Your specific boat may need a few adjustments but the autopilot is a stud. I put 750 hours on one this year. Either motor trolls well. It will be perfect after I add large rudders over the winter. The new Hydro steer on it really helps. Pair it with a remote and the only reason to go to the helm is a speed adjustment. -

MIchigan it is 12". Also just to clear up any misconsceptions. There is not a single tournament on the US side of the lake where the minimum size is 15". The size limit is in place because we have a daily bag limit. And lets not forget there is also a possesion limit. Many forget that as they are driving home from the lake with a 3 day catch of fillets in there cooler.....

The pro am has never been about kings it is about getting 12 fish each day and besting the field. If i get 12 browns and you have 6 kings I beat you. Lets not forget each fish is worth 10 points. Pro Am strategy it is critical that you start with a base score of 120 if you are a pro or 90 if you are an am. The Oswego Pro AM is timed perfectly to allow good fishing. Kings have been in play almost every year. Even if it capturing just one to put you over the top or capturing 12 to put you back in the game. August is not the time for a pro am. The playing field is level. How many times has Trout One won the tourney out of the little salmon when they participated? It is not about that at all. It is about what can be done to make it atractive to Capts to want to get in. My suggestion is a cash prize to the capt who has a full charter for the tourney that finishes the highest. And I am not talking about $500.00....
-
Also the pro am is not just a salmon tourney. CMON MAN give the mighty Brown Trout some respect!
-
Where would the increase in participation happen? AM side? Pro numbers would be even worse then they already are. Maybe you should start an AM only tourney during that time frame Rolmops. Give it a shot and see what happens.

Erie Deery is ballyhoo and Familiar bite is Herring. two totally different baits. Like NK's and Dreamweavers. Some days the fish dont want one or the other. Pick your poison it all works.

I will take it Andy. I will catch up with you this weekend. -
You know that twitter posts are limited to 140 characters that include spaces. It does not leave much room to post a full report. Most Capts have a setting where it links all there social media together into one post so they only have to type once. So what might look like advertising to you probably is because that post is also on there Facebook page which is advertising. 140 characters stopped at Capts in my post. Just so you see how many characters you can actually type on twitter. The problem I have with it is if I was paying for a charter I certainly would not want to see the Capt on his cell phone making a post every 10 minutes about how great the fishing is. I would ask for my money back...

Ed, Thanks for your imput. I am not saying what we have is set in stone. Actually we are looking at several changes going into next year so as I said any imput anyone wants to give us please feel free. You can shoot Vince, Tom A, Kevin Yerge, Myself, Rick H a PM or an email most all of our emails are available off the internet. Or if somebody wants to be involved let us know. I think more annoucements at the host tournies is a great idea. We did have a nice segment at the WHI which I know you did not attend. But for sure we need more exposure and hype that what it is all about. See you on the water, Brian

Ed, This is good discussion. How do we incorporate all 5 tourneys with 3 different formats? And still use the big box number? The Oak is a 10 fish per day tourney then we have 2 12 fish per day tournies and finally we have 2, 6 fish tourneys. One at the beginning of the year when kings are the smallest and one at the end when kings are there biggest? And with the Oak format of only 5 kings your box will never be a huge 300 like you can score in the two pro ams. We are all open minded when it comes to creating a scoring system that can work and not require fishing any one particular tournament. Keep in mind the system must be able to work with three different formatted tournaments. We also want more then 6 teams to create a chase. If we have to have all 5 tournies as a mandatory involvement we are looking at 5 or 6 teams competing. Not really very prestegious at that point. THis last year we had 15 teams involved which is the most I can remember in recent history. We are all here to make this the best Overall Cup we can make it. Imput from the players is what we want. We are already looking forward to next years chase! Thanks, Brian
