ELOSTA meeting and seminar CHANGE - Please reread
Tall Tails replied to Morgan-E's topic in Open Lake Discussion
This should be a good one!! -
I wrap the rubber band around the backing a few times then around the front clip on the board. I also use the pin on the back of the board make sure the backing is in that. I wrap it tight so the board wont release when a fish hits it. But when you reel the board up you can quickly break the rubber band and pull the pin. Hope this makes sense. As far as the guys using mono in between to each his own. Just not something I need to do.
-
I use a wrap of electrical tape underneath then tie on the backing. It realy gives the Power pro something to bite into and it will never spin on the spool. I should have stated above that I only clip the copper to the release when it is on the Big board. If I am using a church board then I will wrap a rubber band around the backing and clip it into the church board.

The Blood run has a significant amount of silicone coating on it. After fishing the 30lb all week last week and struggling the first day with slipping until I figured it out. With Blacks I believe you add more twists. if you use a pinch pad (capt. Jacks) pinch it down an extra click this should help.
-
There is no need to add more knots, just gives it more chance to fail and add mono. If you use Scotty releases you can clip to either the backing or the copper. Most guys will clip to the copper. I do both depending on how far out I am running it. Some will add rubber bands and put it in the release.

No real mechanic at Salmon Country but good docks. Mikes has a great mechanic and okay docks. I have spent years at both and now reside at Wrights Landing in Oswego. It was best to seperate my mechanic from marina owner. I also burn a whole lot less fuel fishing out of Oswego even with paying more for a dock I still spend less then I used to in the little salmon. Mikes also has key operated fuel pumps which is very convenient. Salmon country's fuel pumps are only open when they are.

We will have our first meeting of the year tonight at 7 pm in the lodge at Gander Mountain in Cicero, NY. Our topic is May Walleye the seminar will be put on by a couple of local pros who understand the walleye in Lake Ontario and Oswego Harbor in May. We will also be drawing for our Lowrance HD8. See you all then!

I wanted to pass this along that the net pen work day for the Little Salmon river is this Saturday 4/13 at Salmon Country Marina. I talked with Roy Hunsburger this morning and he wanted me to pass along that he could use some help in getting the pens ready. He will start at 9am Saturday morning. Please shoot me a pm if you can help so I can let him know. He says to bring a pair of wire cutters. We may also have some Boy Scouts there from the local troop to help out. Thanks Brian

This is Dead as of today. Sen maj leader Reid will not bring this to the floor out of fear of backlash in the 2014 elections. Maybe now Sen Swinstein will retire...I have heard enough out of her. I almost wish they would have voted it would have been nice to have a list of who to vote out in 2014. This legislation would never have passed the House. Makes King Andrew look even more stupid for his gun legislation here in NY...
-
Same here. I have 5 riggers mounted all on Tracks. No problems with 3in pedestals and 15 pd sharks. Track is designed for this.

See everyone tomorrow! Looks like good weather to come on in see if you can find a deal!

I would use the small spro swivels. This will help stop any grass or small debris from getting to the lure.

Tall Tails replied to flyrod2's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
From what I am told the regional managers in the western fingerlakes are not prepared for a State of the Lakes. A big Thank you to Dave Lemon the region 7 manager who saw a need for this. I will be at the Groton meeting. Should be a good turnout. -
As of yesterday afternoon it is a sell out! Looking forward to another great Tackle sale!

NY State Fishing License Reduced Fee Proposal
Tall Tails replied to mostlymuskies's topic in Open Lake Discussion
I am the First person to stand up and be heard on my second amendment rights. Those of you who know me personally have seen my facebook posts in recent weeks. However to boycott a hunting licences wont do any good you will only hurt the DEC and our wildlife budget. We have said all along the the 2nd Amendment is not about hunting, and isnt. To me if you want to not spend money or spend money it would be on a canidate for office that supports your opinion or views. I for one will be looking hard from here on out at a person running for office that supports my views and I will also ask the hard questions. It is my personal opinion that not purchasing hunting license's wont do a darn thing but hurt our wildlife. This is not the DEC'd fault.. See you on THURSDAY in Albany!!!! -

Tall Tails replied to PennYan20's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I run a B 60 with my 585. It works great! No complaints other then mine is mounted a touch to far to the stern for my liking. I have a little interference while running. I can still use it while running it just is not perfect. -

I would rather leave the dock without a fishfinder then a speed and temp probe.

NY State Fishing License Reduced Fee Proposal
Tall Tails replied to mostlymuskies's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Larry we are on the same team. What I should have said and this is info from a recent Federation presidents meeting is that this is being done without input nor do they want any. I dont think you will see this at your local federation up for discussion. We were told this was happening without input... Again I am not up set with the propsal I am just upset with the process... Anything at all with licenses are supposed to come from the conservation council and in this case it is not. -
NY State Fishing License Reduced Fee Proposal
Tall Tails replied to mostlymuskies's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Normally I would be all for this however they are doing this yet again without any consultation with the NYS conservation council which is our voice in Albany.... Our govenor has choose to completely ignore the conservation council during his term.. They have locked down our funding and not spent much to fund the DEC in last few years we all know that. There are many unfilled postions all throughout the DEC and no way to fill them. The other big issue is the GAG order placed on the DEC they can not talk to the press or any of us without prior authorization. I asked our reg 7 fisheries people recently to respond to the negative press on the lake and all they could do was apologize and tell me they were not allowed to... The last I heard we had 40 million dollars in the conservation fund that the govenor is not allowing to be used. To me it makes sense to lower the license fee however without any consultation and opinion it is useless. As far as the Charterboat license goes I think the numbers would need to be looked at to make sure the revenue collected from that license is the same as the revenue collected from the people who buy it themselves to go on a charter. The numbers exist within each countys tourism departments to do this. You also need to ask yourself as Captains are you ok paying a 1000.00 dollars to run 35 trips vs the guy who pays 1000.00 to run 150 trips? Just food for thought. I am not bashing the idea I am just not sure if it works. Also would you include river guides in this? That really changes things. Capt. Brian Garrett President of the ELOSTA
