I would rather leave the dock without a fishfinder then a speed and temp probe.

NY State Fishing License Reduced Fee Proposal
Tall Tails replied to mostlymuskies's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Larry we are on the same team. What I should have said and this is info from a recent Federation presidents meeting is that this is being done without input nor do they want any. I dont think you will see this at your local federation up for discussion. We were told this was happening without input... Again I am not up set with the propsal I am just upset with the process... Anything at all with licenses are supposed to come from the conservation council and in this case it is not. -
NY State Fishing License Reduced Fee Proposal
Tall Tails replied to mostlymuskies's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Normally I would be all for this however they are doing this yet again without any consultation with the NYS conservation council which is our voice in Albany.... Our govenor has choose to completely ignore the conservation council during his term.. They have locked down our funding and not spent much to fund the DEC in last few years we all know that. There are many unfilled postions all throughout the DEC and no way to fill them. The other big issue is the GAG order placed on the DEC they can not talk to the press or any of us without prior authorization. I asked our reg 7 fisheries people recently to respond to the negative press on the lake and all they could do was apologize and tell me they were not allowed to... The last I heard we had 40 million dollars in the conservation fund that the govenor is not allowing to be used. To me it makes sense to lower the license fee however without any consultation and opinion it is useless. As far as the Charterboat license goes I think the numbers would need to be looked at to make sure the revenue collected from that license is the same as the revenue collected from the people who buy it themselves to go on a charter. The numbers exist within each countys tourism departments to do this. You also need to ask yourself as Captains are you ok paying a 1000.00 dollars to run 35 trips vs the guy who pays 1000.00 to run 150 trips? Just food for thought. I am not bashing the idea I am just not sure if it works. Also would you include river guides in this? That really changes things. Capt. Brian Garrett President of the ELOSTA -

Torpedo wire for sub troll and depth raider.
Tall Tails replied to Chas0218's topic in Tackle and Techniques
I run a Depth raider. Coated cable on my center rigger. Blow back was the same. I also ran that wire on the HP scotty I think it was to fast for the cable. I do know people who had luck with it on there 1116 scottys. Maybe they will add to the discussion here. I used the same connector as the coated cable. The name of it is escaping me at the moment. The connector was not where it broke. It would just randomly snap in the cable. I wrote to torpedo and there response was we are sorry it did not work out for you... I also run a fishhawk on my port boom rigger as I like having 2 probes going all the time and I hardly notice any blowback with that new fishhawk probe. -

Go see Screwy Louie's or All Seasons if you want to buy a scotty product locally, they can get you whatever you need. -
Torpedo wire for sub troll and depth raider.
Tall Tails replied to Chas0218's topic in Tackle and Techniques
I wish you luck. I lost 3 shark weights and 2 probes before I learned my lesson. Best place I found for that stuff was the trash bin. -
With Scottys it is really not useful to put in a switch. It is important to get the most out of the rigger, that you have 30amps. I have a fuse block that only my riggers run through. If a scotty rigger comes up and goes past the autostop bead it will come to a stop (and may break the ball and or probe off at this point) and pop the fuse. At least mine do therefore since the only powered function of the scottys is to come up there is no draw any other time. I have 6 gauge wire from my batteries to the fuse block and 10 gauge after that running as far as 8ft, all Marine grade. This block powers all 5 of my Scotty hp's.

youth fishing programs in rochester????
Tall Tails replied to fishlander22's topic in Open Lake Discussion
There is DEC camps all over the state. Kids attend usually by being sponsored by sporting clubs. I know at ELOSTA we sent 7 kids to camp last summer. These camps teach all aspects of the outdoors. I would imagine if you donated money to say trout unlimited or any sporting club in the Rochester area with a specific purpose to send these kids to camp they would accept it. State of the Lake Meetings Scheduled
Tall Tails replied to Tall Tails's topic in Open Lake Discussion
No open to the public! [ Post made via Android ] -
I have just been told the State of the Lake meeting for the east end will be March 6th. There is a change of location for the meeting this year, as the BOCES is undergoing some construction. The meeting will be held at 7pm at the ECO Academy. It is located at 24 County Rt 2A. From the I81 exit for Pulaski take Rt13 heading southeast and travel just over a mile and turn left (north) onto County Rt2A. The Academy will be immediately visible on the right. Rochester: Tues. March 12 - 7:00 - 9:30 p.m. at the Carlson Auditorium, building #76 (Room#1125) on the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) campus, Rochester (Monroe County). Park in Lots E or F. Lockport: Tuesday, March 19, 2013: 6:30 - 9:00 p.m. at the Cornell Cooperative Extension Building, 4487 Lake Avenue, Lockport (Niagara County). I wanted to get the eastern date posted because of the change in venue. See everyone at these meetings! Brian

Rick... my buddy at work just put together that the newest go pro, the remote attachment and then loaded the app onto his droid. he said it works great. the amazing thing is that apparently the remote (your phone) and the camera have a 600' range between the two. So as a deer hunter looking for that perfect video you can place the camera in a desired location and remotely view it as well as control it from your tree stand. Gotta love technology. Pete ask your friend if the new GO Pro goes thru the series of beeps when you turn it on. I have held off on my purchase because a friend told me he couldnt shut the beeps off. I wanted to use it for hunting.

Best spoons for salmon
Tall Tails replied to gbj92's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
You missed my point. I said i didn't care about the pattern, i said the size is way more important than the pattern. 2" spoons as well as 4.25" are a large part of my approach. If you don't factor those sizes in, well thats fine. [ Post made via Android ] Pete you are spot on! To limit yourself to one brand would limit success. -
Thanks Poles I will be getting ahold of Cisco and see if they will fix the issue.

Put 6 of the adjustable rod holders on my boat 4 years ago. Good holder bit it will loosen up over time and no way to tighten. Also the chrome is peeling off the bottom part of the holder and rust has started to take over. It is what it is. My Berts are by far the best and most rugged on my boat. [ Post made via Android ]
