I have lucked out and have 2 or 3 retired guys to observe for me. We bring the observer with us prefishing and they reel in every fish during prefishing. And we cover lodging and meals. So they get a fishing trip for free and help us out for 2 days. I even have one that does all the cooking back at the campers!!!! Observers are nesacary in the pro div. What we dont need is open communication. THERE I SAID IT!!! LOL. Unfortuanelty the committee likes communication and wont change it. Although it sure would have changed the outcome of at least one tourney this yr. See Everyone in 09!!

How to start looking for Salmon
Tall Tails replied to DaveCox's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
1/4 Mile? My 600 copper is right there -
Looks like a brown, to many spots to be an atlantic and the brown color around the underside of the fish gives it away. Atlantic smolts are way more silver in color. Also atlantic smolts dont have any where near that number of spots.

Mexico Report
Tall Tails replied to Tall Tails's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Yup I would say its gonna take 40!!! Or Darn Close. Sounds like the Plant area was good today. Good luck everyone! Brian -
I am sure its 8pm because all the weigh stations are private business. The weigh station in Mexico is a campground and in the summer there office closes at 8. All the help is paid so the business would have to pay someone to stay later. So I am sure this is something that Dave has taken into account when he asked the weigh stations to help him with the Derby. Good Luck to everyone this fall derby Brian

Pete, I tried calling you but I no service that far offshore. Give me a call Thursday and I will let you know whats goin on. If you got a free hour I am in your neck of the woods again this week, we can have a beverage. Brian -
We didnt fish Saturday due to a cancellation. We did some much needed maintence on the boat. Sunday found us off Oswego trying to catch a brown trout, but the brown bite was better saturday. Only a few boats had just a couple browns on sunday by 830. I got a tip that there was some green water out past 400 so off we went to the depths. After trolling around around out there for a while we managed our first major on the 600 copper, white spinne green crinkle. Another hour went by and we were within 15 min of ending the trip when a rigger went off, another major. We got him put the rod back down it went off again. I talked the guys into staying for an 8 hr trip and they were all for it. We manged 4 more good ones and finished with 7 for the trip. I feel like these fish are way offshore and probably have been for awhile. When we finished we were 23 miles from home but you gotta do what you gotta do. My father is mating for another captain in Oswego and they did fish over the deep water yesterday afternoon as well. All my fish on the riggers came on a white spinnie with the original Rubber skirted fly the dirty irishman. This has been a producer since I came up with it 3 years ago. I think this weekend will be better.

What to do?......What to do?............
Tall Tails replied to CaptSpike's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Jekyll, If the cheater slides all the way to the attractor, all that should tangle a little bit will be the fly leader. I am not sayin it wont make a mess in the net!!! But I would rather put fish in the boat and deal with a tangle than not. Since dodgers came back from the dead a few years ago one of the hottest sets has been the cheater over the top. Ask Brian your dockmate about this and tell him Brian from tall tails was talking to you about it. It is one of there go to programs!!!!!! Good Luck with it! Brian Team Tall Tails -

We always run cheaters above the attractors. We also handle them like Reeljerks does. When there are Fish to catch in Mexico Bay (ha ha) that cheater above the the attractor can get HOT!!!!!!!! You need to think about your lead off the ball with the attractor if you are running it more than 12 feet you could tangle because you giving that attractor a long leash. In a king set my leads are typically short so I can run that cheater with little problems. -
AT THE OAK 7 /27
Tall Tails replied to ray koziatek's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Ray, Should have kept driving a little. I was told Olcott was SICK sat and sun with everyone done with a box by 1015 with a lot of Matures. Here is hoping they are swimming eastbound!!!!!!! Brian -
I see 4 am teams in the top 10 of the pre fish derby on Friday. 3 fish is 3 fish cant get any easier. Makes it a very level playing field. In fact I worry more about the am teams because there programs are tweaked to big fish and not just numbers like the pros are looking for. See everyone in Sodus and the Captain Jacks Shootout on Friday. We will be Docked at Capt. Jacks all week stop over and say hello. Capt. Brian Team Tall Tails

How about the big fish from the first weekend of June and the Big fish from the Orleans Derby, that would still be leading the Summer LOC had they got in. Never say never! There was a rumor of a 30 pounder taken yesterday that was not in either. As a good friend of mine says GOTTA BE IN IT TO WIN IT!!!!!!!!! Its gonna take a 32 to win this thing over the next 2 weeks! Oswego 7/6
Tall Tails replied to ray koziatek's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
I wish you hadnt said we were there to make a living! No body owns the water including us Charter captains! Every one should fish like every boat is pullin a 600 Copper!!! I understand there are traffic issues week in and week out but just follow rules of the road, and most of the time it works out. Greg is right look for your own fish and keep your mouth shut on the radio you will most likely have the spot to yourself, if you say something on the radio and boats come your way its your own fault.
