Fairhaven is a very family friendly place. We vacation there for 2 weeks every summer. Plenty of house rentals available. Best salmon fishing for me this year was out of Fairhaven, last two weeks in July.

Was up two weeks ago when the temp was down 120'to 140'. I bought a pair of mag dip sys and had nothing but trouble with them tangling my coppers off of the planner boards. Does anybody know what the depth range for mag dipsys is on wire?? I know the regular dipsys are 3 to 1.

I have been fishing this same week for the last 12 years and unfortunately this was the worst week I have ever experienced. The bottom line is the number of kings out there is pathetic. Normally we troll from 100' to 250' this time of the year and we see squadrons of kings schooling up on the sonar. This year there is just one or two kings here and there. Our best depth the whole trip was 620' of water down 120' to hit temp. Lots of skippys out there with a few matures mixed in. The depths from 600' in to 200' were basically void of life. Most of the charter boats are out trolling in the 600's with us. We boated 7 mature kings in the week with the biggest at 28 pounds. Many skippys and a few teenagers. We even boated 2 browns in 620' of water. We also boated quite a few steelies out there. I wish I had a better report for everyone but I fear this salmon season is going to be a bad one numbers wise.........I hope I'm wrong. Best flasher fly was the white green dot spinny with Atommik big fin crinkle glow fly. Double Green Glow spiny with Atommik Kevin's secret fly and the always favorite double glow spiny with crinkle green glow fly. You have to have glow colors on when fishing down 120' to 140' Very few spoon hits. But glow green dolphin and Bobys King of sting spoon took a few shots. If you do out to the 600' depth, use caution on running coppers and dip sys, the currents are very strong out there. We learned that the hard way.

Fairhaven July 19 and 20th.
steelfire replied to steelfire's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
I had covered 125 to 175. But we did better this evening. 175' west of the chute was the ticket. Green glow fly and spiny. Temp was at75' down this evening -
Fished from 125' to 180' and did excellent on the 19th from 3:00 till 8:00. Many kings landed with a 27 pounder being the biggest. Bait and salmon constantly being marked from 75' down to 100'. Last night was a the total opposite, blank sonar screen with no bait or targets. Trolled for 5 hours with out a hit. First skunk for me in a long time. Hopefully more fish and bait will back in for this afternoon.

If I am fishing for them in the 35 to 75 ft range over say 300 feet of water. Should I fund long leads off of the riggers or keep them tight to the ball? I know they hit cheaters all the time but for the life of me I can't get them on the riggers.

Check Walmart. They always have 30 lb big game in our store.I keep the 30 pound on through September. Can't beat it. Thats what they make barrel swivels and fluro leader for.
