Fairhaven

Barndog it's been mostly a fly bite. Green green and more green. I have taken 3 kings on the king of sting spoon tail gunned behind my flashers and flys. Mostly a rigger bite with only 2 so far on the dippys Ill be up untill next Wednesday. You can give me a shout on 72 for info. Jumpin jack is my boat. -
Been up all week fishing. Fishing has been decent. Not the mother load but enough to keep you on your toes. Fish are anywhere from 130 feet out to 220. Temp has bn as high as down 65. To down 100. Fronts have come thru twice while I've been up. We have been averaging 4 kings a trip. Some brutes have broken us off. We also took a monster 20 pound laker. . Having a hard time getting the suspended steelies to go. Picture to follow when I get home next week.

I hear you on the copper. It sucks. BUT...there are some days that it out fishes everything else. I started running mine on my planner boards way out to the sides and have had better luck and less tangles. -
Big Jon keeps popping the breaker

I had the same problem, called big jon and they told me to loosen up the manual drag just a little bit. It worked and problem solved. try it. -

I just started running them and let me tell you they ROCK!! I was skeptical at first. I'll never use anything else. No more false releases or dragging skippys around.

I fish Fairhaven every summer the 2 last weeks of July during our vacation. Its hit or miss salmon wise. Last year was awesome and it was pretty much all you wanted. The past couple years was slower with a few salmon here and there. BUT with Fairhaven if the salmon fishing is slow, head out to deep water 300' to 500' and fish for steelies. They are always there. And as far as late August, you can't beat the number of kings staged from Mexico Bay north to Sandy pond. Huge numbers, BUT also huge numbers of boats. I have been fishing off of the salmon river the last 2weeks of August for over 12 years now and there are ALWAYS plenty of salmon around there then. Hope this helps you ADK1.

I have the 19.5' islander, I have it set to run 3 or 4 riggers. Same set up as you with the four rigger spread except i put a rigger base in the middle of the stern. If I want to run 3 riggers I put one rigger in the middle and take the other one off. I have been running just 3 the past two years and that middle chute rigger fires constantly for me. i don't have a flu swim platform in the back just a ladder platform. I attached a picture.

Running Flasher/fly and Spoons
steelfire replied to steal's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Jason, How far apart do you run them?? I usually stagger my riggers about 10' apart once I see on the sonar where the fish are set up and where the thermocline is. I would be worried about a tangle running 3 flasher fly set ups off the riggers. -
BEST CANNON BALLS/SET UP to REDUCE BLOWBACK
steelfire replied to gpearce's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
You should be able to slow your boat down to at least 2.0 mph. I run a 2006 19.5 starcraft islander with a 130hp I/O. When I put her into drive we are at 2.0 mph. Confirmed by my sub troll and sonar. i have 9.9 kicker on the back but rarely use it. Its easier to control the boat with the big motor, especially in rough seas. Maybe try changing the motor angle or a drift sock. My motor straight down gets me the slowest speed 2.0. If I angle the motor up a little bit the speed increases to 2.8. Mess around with that before you try any of the expensive ideas. Love this site for all the info and ideas everybody shares!! I have learned a ton here over the years!! -
Chamberlain releases

Thanks guys for all the info. One last question, are these releases strong enough to hold a atommik 15lb torpedo weight?? -
Running Flasher/fly and Spoons
steelfire replied to steal's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
my 3 rigger spread, 2 flasher flys on the outside riggers staggered and a spoon down the middle rigger higher than the flashers and tail gunned back. seems to work pretty good. Has any body tried an all flasher fly program on there riggers?? Ive read some run as many as 4 flasher/flys off there riggers. I have never tried it. -
Does anybody use the chamberlain vertical and horizantal releases for kings?? If so how do they work for you?? I just picked up 4 and I'm wondering how they will work for summer kings, before I install them. Thanks!!

3 or 4 rigger spread?
steelfire replied to steelfire's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Thanks guys. Skipper19, I agree with you. I was running 4 but 3 seems to be a heck of alot easier and I have been running more junk rods. Last August in front of the salmon river in 150' of water, I could not get a rigger to fire. But as soon a I parked a dipsy and fly at 125' down....fish on. All day. Never moved a rigger and boxed out by noon. Its funny how the kings are like that. But thats what keeps it challenging and fun!! -

Just looking for some opinions for summer and early fall king fishing. Is it better to run just 3 riggers or 4 for kings. I have read that 4 riggers may be to much noise and scare off a lot of kings. I have been running 3. Two flasher flys and one clean spoon down the middle, and do pretty good. But I see a lot of boats running 4 riggers. Makes me wonder if I really should be running my fourth rigger?????
