  1. when is the fairhaven challenge????
  2. Guides are trolling 1.5-2.0 at the mouth, seem to be working better right now
  3. What was your down speed enzo????
  4. If it works for you, but for me we crushed 28 of them last week at 2. Anything slower our faster they would not hit!! ask the guides on this site what there speeds have been............
  5. Enzo, Slow way down!!!!!!!!!!! I landed 25 kings in 3.5 days of fishing and we never went any faster than 2.0 on my down speed!!!! The #4 j plug will dive 3 feet at 2 mph.
  6. 30 feet of water was the magic number for us. I ran three riggers 10' 15' 20' down and 75' 85' 95' feet back. and two planner boards 100' and 150' back. and 1 flat line 200' back.
  7. Just returned after fishing the lake out in front of the salmon river. Best trip I have ever done in 12 years of lake fishing. We boated over 25 kings in the 4 days and probably lost a dozen or so more. Green j's and glow spoons of the boards with lond leads did the damage at first light up to around 10:30 am. Then again the last two hours of light. We even had our first ever tripple and landed all 3!! We road around the river to the diffrent holes to see what was going on and the water is scary low and the snagging is brutal!! No DEC in sight either :x Pray for rain!! Thanks to all of you guys who helped me out with all the info you shared with me this year, I learned alot here!! hope I can pay you back.
  8. Hey guys, Im heading up for the week Sunday, just looking for a report on the depth the salmon are at after this blow in the port ontario, salmon river area. Thanks.
  9. I run my regular 20lb main line thru the ball release. I use a 6' flouro leader before the lure.
  10. Yankee troller, what do you use when you are targeting them on the bottom????
  11. Heading up in 9 days. I'm reading reports of lots of fish on the bottom that aren't hitting. Other thatn the usual j plugs and spoons buzzed over there heads are there any other options to get these fish to hit???????? :?: :?:
  12. You can troll the mouth of the river first thing in the morning but I have a sneeking suspicion that more of the fish will be out in the 60 to 80' range. i will be up the weekend after you. In lowlight the #4 green glow ladder back j plug and in sun bloody nosed silver j plug are killer! try a mixture of spoons also like the nbk's and die hards. good luck and report back, I will be looking for info on depths!!
  13. if fish are in shallow in September, just use a flouro leder.
  14. Motoman, I think, at least for me I dont mark many fish when they come in shallow. I think they scoot out of the way when they here you coming. Usually if they are deeper than 30 feet then I will see them. I have a lowrance lcx25c and i usually dont miss much with that unit.
  15. They have been on back order at cabelas for the last month!! I havent been able to get any
  16. Have any of you guys tried those lighted j plugs yet?? Are they worth the money or are the usual glow j's just as good??? :?:
  17. Chugbug, It verys year to year. at that time of year you can always count on some fish hanging out around the mouth of the river. That has a depth of 5 to 10'. If fish are there run the lures above that I mentioned.(especially the j plugs) When the fish are shallow I run no more than 3 riggers. I usually run about 100' leads off of the ball. The deadliest set up that time of year is a plane old flat line run 200' behind the boat. I have caught them as far out in september as 80' feet of water. same deal use the above mentioned lures just shorter leads off of the ball. And the other thing that is important is get away from the pack of boats that is always present. Find the unpressured fish and you will have more fish willing to hit!! start shallow and work your way out deeper. hope that helps!
  18. I have fished the last 8 years on the 3rd week of September off of the mouth of the salmon river. #1 lure j-plug, #2 anytype of nk that has green. #3 is the flasher fly. #4 is the jointed rapala. I have done well on all of those. this will be the first year that I will include copper in my spread. I have a feeling it will be deadly on staging kings!!! 3.5 weeks and counting!!! cant wait!!! anybody use anything diffrent???
  19. that helps, thank you very much. I will try your techniques. I have yet to try for steelies in the lake but will have a whole week to do so!!
  20. can you explain a steelie program that you run if its not to big of a secret?? Just looking for the basics. How deep are they usually this time of the year??? and I at least know they like orange on the lures.
  21. Do you guys tie your lines directly to the flashers( e chips or spin doctors) or do you tie on a swivel then put the swivel to the flahsher???? or does it matter. Just curious. thanks guys.
  22. Great report!! i was hoping for an oswego report. I will be up for the week next week!! How many coppers were you running??
  23. I might try the wd40 on the line trick. Will the damage the mono????
  24. what type and pound do you use for a leader for spoons???
  25. Thats cool. wire rules!!! I'm headed up in two weeks for a week of salmon fishing. Guess I'll see if my luck holds or not!!
