  1. Saw Pines fish first hand.....I've fished many tourneys there and we have weighed a few 5 lbers. an another 6 thru the ice....trust me that fish was 6-7 lbs. all day....
  2. Can only hope the stream levels can stay up and colored to give those fish a chance...
  3. If your already spooled with 10lb. that will suffice....the water should be a bit off color anyways and lighter line isnt that crucial. The eggs will be wrapped in mesh netting (sacs) Any of the major tackle shops in Rochester will have eggsacs including Suttons in Naples. Heck, even some of the vending machines carry them now. Worst case scenario, there is always 1 or 2 people selling them with other baits along side the road opening day.
  4. Like Vogel said....8 lb. line would be fine and natural eggs either salmon or trout are what 90% of what everyone uses. If you attempt artificials like spinners, regulations are for single hook only......no trebles of any kind on any lure. Don't rule out night crawlers, red worms, waxies, or any of the usual trout menu. The largest rainbow I have caught on that stream was late in the afternoon, opening day, on a night crawler. All this being said, the rainbow runs pale in comparison to the ones before the late 90's . This is reflected in the creel limit which is now (1) fish 15" or larger. Good Luck
  5. More 20+ pound slobs? How many have you caught? Dang, I have yet to get one bigger than mid to upper teens.....and have close to 30 years into this lake. Congrats.
  6. Didn't catch one, but had a muskrat come up for air in my jigging hole in my shanty once....scared the sheet out of each other for a split second, then he bolted back down !
  7. I'm looking at the forked tail on the smaller fish and am wondering if it might not be a salmon?
  8. I believe that was a NW wind we had all weekend....at least here in Rochester....
  9. Just be ready.....one of these trips your bound to hook a king!!!! Great report!
  10. Let me know when you start catching silver fish........or start jigging for those things..... LOL Until then I'll keep working outside in blistering heat....LOL Nice going guys....
  11. The ponds and Braddocks Bay west of the river usually have activity....
  12. TTT. Come on, I know one of you guys has this thing collecting dust
  13. in the tribs?
  14. Anyone with a copy they no longer use?
  15. Enjoying this topic. I have a small camp in Steuben Co. and find myself more and more exploring the tiny headwaters in and around this county. They are proof of something pure and true....rare in today's crazy world....
  16. Anything you would use for steelies this time of year. Egg patterns, black stones, black buggers, and when the water warms a bit swing a few streamer patterns
  17. Can also reach them from the break wall at the boat launch at the state park (Branchport) this time of year.
  18. Probably true. Usually can get them from the break wall in Hammondsport sometimes as late as May. Can try casting spoons and jigs or some guys cast out sawbellies on a slip float or egg sinker.
  19. You spot burning Googan ! NIce Fish ! LOL
  20. I don't care what kind of trout it is, at 30 lbs. that is world class. Not common but yes possible. A 30 lb. king is run of the mill. Would be a travesty to see a trout (regardless of species) not win or not get the line light if it were to beat the largest king in the derby. The fishery is built on multiple species. I find it funny that some seem too proud to let a trout win the grand prize, yet I am sure these same anglers gobble up the spring brown trout opportunities, offshore steelie action, or deep laker action when the kings are not around and they want, or need, to put their clients and/or passengers on fish. That's the beauty of our fishery....you can usually always find something that bites. It is a world class TROUT and salmon fishery. In fact, I know there are visitors from out of state come here for the trophy trout opportunities not the salmon. When it comes to the trib fishing, this is more the case....
  21. Saw this add under the 'Finger lakes Craig's list'. Hate hearing about this kind of thing, but thought i might post it here in case you hear about a used tackle deal too good to be true.... Fishing gear stolen (Seneca Falls) Someone broke into a shed at our fishing camp and took over 20 rods and reels and tackle boxes with hundreds of lures. If you know anything about this crime, please email me through Craigslist, call me at 607-382-4759, or contact the NY State Police. Would consider reward for information leading to arrest and conviction of the culprits. Thanks, James and Barbara Graham.

  23. Not much standing timber around Braddocks. Mostly marsh/wetland and scrub. Not sure your going to find much good squirrel habitat. I don't want to discourage you, but just making you aware in case you are unfamiliar with it.
