  1. Respectfully disagree Ray. I fish cold brook and can tell you it isn't the habitat. The state did clear the creek several years back and there are no impassible barriers and there are some nice new diggers etc. There are plenty juvenile rainbows in the stream as i walked a section of it a few weeks back. I also talked with a biologist who said there are enough rainbows successfully reproducing to keep the native population going as evident in their smolt census he said they take. Whatever is happening to the rainbows he said is happening IN the lake. IMO is it the overpopulation of lakers in the system chowing down on the juvenile rainbows and stocked browns. Same thing is happening to native rainbow and cutthroat populations out west and in Yellowstone Park for instance. lakers are heavily predating on the bows and cutties and those populations are half of what they were. The lakers on top of a changing ecosystem in the Finger Lakes with zebra mussels , decline of smelt populations, etc. are taking a toll on the other trout.
  2. Giant hammerhead too close for comfort.... I just saw this video posted on the Facebook page of the marina we fish out of in Long Key. Another beer and this guy might not have had an arm.....
  3. Congrats! Awesome fish. Don't know of many people that can claim a 20 lb. atlantic under their belt...
  4. If trolling isn't your thing then try jigging for the lakers. Check out John Gaulke if interetsed in doing a half or full day trip. He will show you the ropes and can also put you on some warm water species like bass as well. He is quite versitile and can show you techniques and spots that you could use with your own tackle (sounds like you won't have trolling equipment.) 5. LMAO! Thanks for the contribution to the discussion. Very insightful comments and icons...
  6. I was just putting it out there...I wasn't positive of the regs as it seems like most of you are unaware as well. In some states like FL people have been prosecuted by pics on the internet of them handling Goliath grouper and/or other threatened species that are not supposed to leave the water period. I have to say, I am surprised by some of the non-chalant attitudes regarding regulations from some of the "captains" on here....sorry
  7. Didn't think you could take endangered/threatened fish out of the water??
  8. And so the sweating begins..... Nice job Jeremy!
  9. Not the largest I have caught, but this one is by far one of the prettiest I have taken from an Ontario trib. The proportions, colors, and condition of this fish were outstanding. Almost thought this was a Finger Lake fish out of Naples or Catherine...
  10. smelt populations have crashed in many of the Finger Lakes. They still exist but are a mere trickle of what they once were. I is really hit or miss from what I understand...
  11. A cider amateur here. Just bottled my first run a couple weeks ago and have another recipe about done as well.
  12. Nice pics !
  13. Slow fishing at Braddocks. Few scattered perch and some small pike. If you go the bite has been best just before dark.
  14. Fished late this afternoon and managed a few pike on the small side. The best was 28" that I got this great picture with. Took a few perch on tip-downs, but not enough for a meal. Wind died and it was great weather. Great way to spend a monday afternoon with your father.
  15. Lakebound, If you just caught those fish yesterday, do you still have the entrails and heads handy? If so, look into thier mouths and check the volmerine teeth then you will know for sure. Please post pics if you can. Browns for sure. The fish on right has a square tail, and the one on the left does also, just folded over from sitting in a cooler or something. Also, those are great pics of landlocks Trolling82. They distinctly show that they are different fish from the 2 browns in Lakebounds pic.
  16. Agree with Stinger, those 2 are browns. The caudal peduncle is too thick and stocky on those fish for a landlock, which is much thinner and tapered. Only way to be sure is the Volmerine teeth on the inside of the mouth. Stinger that is a good picture showing the difference in them. 17. Yes Seneca as well as Cayuga, Canandaigua, and Keuka don't freeze in the winter except maybe their very northern and southern ends.
  18. Awesome! Shark are totaly underrated.
  19. No, I didn't catch it. My friend that did has caught several bass bigger believe it or not and didn't even think about mounting it.
  20. I just break them off when practicing

  22. Hope you guys realize that you'll all be fishing for second place.........I'll be there.
  23. Pulled a quick little stint at Honeoye yesterday afternoon/eve. with a few guys from work. Fished from 4pm-8pm. Ran a string of tip-ups off of Sandy Bottoms Pk. and took 3 11"-14" bass, a small pickeral, a rockbass, and this 6 lb. waldo. Sorry bout the pic, off of my camera phone. No flags after about 6:45 or so. Didn't bother doing any jigging. Ice was about 8-10" of black with about an inch of powder snow on top.
  24. 9 wt. 3 pc. Diamondback w/ Reddington reel I can post specifics on rod and reel if anyone is interested. I set this rod up for traveling to the Keys and other salt destinations. Only used it a few times. I believe I have a Cortland ghost tip line on the reel. Asking $ 250.00 for both rod and reel but will consider separating. I imagine this would make a good king combo as well...
  25. Is this just for Braddocks? Ice is spotty and from a bit beyond the point west is all open muddy water. It's going to be pretty congested in the marina. A guy went thru today at the end of the docks. Be careful.
