  1. We have used the Roemer Liberators since the 80s and love them. There is a video on here that shows how we rig them. http://www.fishdoctorcharters.com/template.tpl?selector=video
  2. Consistent trolling results not possible for me either.... Gave it a try the last couple mornings for a few hours each morning and nothing but some browns and a tiger. 61 degrees down 22 in a few spots. Be set up just right about when that night bite slows down.
  3. I am not but I can just drop in the mail to you.
  4. Two Big Jon Manuals. Just a few years old. Everything included but the plates the rod holders mount to and cable on one of the riggers. $200 Two 8'6" Berkely Blazer rigger rods. Guides have been replaced on both. $20 each One Zebco 8'6" Med Rigger Rod. $10 Penn Heavy Duty Klinchers - $5 a piece Chamberlain Release - $10 Dubro rigger release - $5 Would prefer to meet for pickup on the rods and riggers. We can work out shipping on the other stuff.
  5. Here are the two we got Sunday morning. Boys had a great time. The lad on the left caught his biggest fish ever! Thanks for the pointers Justin.
  6. Been a pretty good spoon bite on those kings. Maybe one attractor in the riggers and spoons everywhere else. 40 foot deep range. 1/2 cores had been working. slide Divers too.
  7. Here is a video I took of a thumper rod. I like running an 18" dropper to the weight. Helps keep things off bottom when you touch and lets more dodger action get to your rod tip. At 2.7 mph, you need about 300 feet of wire to get you in the 100-110 foot range with a 16 oz. ball.
  8. I have never broken a line or anything like that. I don't use any snubbers on them. Never used the Amish boards so I don't know how they compare.
  9. I use them for my coppers and I think they perform very well.
  10. I bought an axle and brake kit from Champion Trailer a while back for my old boat. Very good service and the kit had everything in it, including zip ties. Their axles have a great set up for greasing (fresh grease ends up in the back of the hub).
  11. Chas 0218, I was trying some Riviera Doubles that day and wasn't impressed. I love the Riviera Triples for everything including copper but the doubles didn't track well for me.
  12. You can see my setup on this video. I like the trees and I often wrap the board tether line around the top of the tree. Handy to hook releases to and more importantly, it can't get hooked on the rods/reels on turns.
  13. Does it read 0.0 or quite working all together? If 0.0, you might check the metal tab in front of the paddle wheel to make sure it isn't hitting the wheel.
  14. Wrights had a bunch of ice packed in at the launch on Sunday morning. Some pack ice that happened to blow in there. Probably clear by now. We ended up launching under the Utica Street bridge. Caught one brown in the harbor when we were setting up. We had 37 degrees in the harbor, down to 35 degrees just east. Very muddy water from the river. Too dirty for good brown trout fishing IMHO. We didn't stray far because we were all alone except for one other boat that left shortly after we got there.
  15. Took a couple of shots with some 3", 1 3/4 oz,#5 shot at 40 yards tonight. Both shots had zero pellets outside a 30" circle. Using a Hastings Wadlock barrel with their .660 choke. Definitely a keeper turkey load for me.
  16. The captain never got paid. If anyone is giving them away, I will take all you want to send to me.
  17. My understanding on the law is that anything with a length restriction, i.e. steelhead, rainbows, atlantics, and lake trout can be gutted but not fileted, so that they can be measured. Browns and pacific salmon can be fileted but you need to leave a piece of skin on them. Supposed to be 500 feet offshore minimum.
  18. In my opinion the 25 Carolina Classic is the ultimate 25 foot fishing machine. Maybe even the ultimate 26 or 27 foot fishing machine! Major big water boat. For reference a 25 foot Sportcraft weighs 6000 lbs. Good luck with the sale. Priced well with the updated power and accessories and being freshwater.
  19. For a permanent label on a rod, I use a metallic ink pen and then put a coat of rod finish over it once the ink dries. You can border the text area with the same wraps you used for your guides as well. For different length coppers I label the reel on the reel seat with a sharpie so I can switch it to other rods if I need to and still know what is on the reel. Sorry - thought when you said built that you meant you built the rods. Now I see that you meant that you rigged up your reels. Never mind the permanent label info.
  20. Highland Forest in Onondaga Co. is probably 60-70 miles
  21. Think I found a seven foot blank that will fill the bill.
  22. My wife and kids will be there as well Pete.
  23. I can be there. Sounds like a good time.
  24. For the small boat category.... Here is my tiller.
  25. One other lesson learned I would like to share. If you are using a Twilly Tip in a spiral guide configuration, you may have issues with breakoffs. Twilly does a great job in manufacturing to make sure that the end of the spring towards the reel (the spring end has a sharp end) ends up in the top of the guide. We were running a wire rod with a Twilly one day as a copper rod. Of course while trolling, the weight of the reel made the rod spin around in the rod holder so the line ended up riding in the top of the twilly. It cut that braided backing like a hot knife through butter. Don't know if it would cut the stainless but it can't be good for it.
