Congrats to the winners! And thanks Scott for your time and effort!
Rough going this weekend for small-boat jigging, I spent more time bailing out our 14'r than fishing. My 13yr old son and I managed around 10 lakers before giving up early Sat a.m., most 4 - 6lb fish. A dumb-dad moment - I told my son that his 8.8lb laker wouldn't make the board, filleted it instead. I'm headin' for the doghouse!
That's a great start - to fine tune I would more than highly recommend a trip out with Capt. John Gaulke, http://www.fingerlakesanglingzone.com. John's an expert at this method and will have you addicted to jigging in no time flat!
Nice 16', 54"-beam Jon boat with 2008, 20hp 4-stroke Yamaha for sale. Both in excellent condition, motor has less than 10hrs on it. Includes 6gal gas tank, oars, two anchors, paddle, boat cover, stand and trailer. Asking $3500 or best offer. Located in Athens, PA. Selling for a friend - please contact Paul at (570)888-0481 for all inquiries.
Muireadach, I hope you enjoy Keuka, it's a beautiful lake. I would highly recommend booking a (jigging) trip with Capt. John Gaulke one day that week if you're targeting lake trout, and flyfishing for several species is another forte of his too. John really knows his stuff - you won't be disappointed! His website is http://www.fingerlakesanglingzone.com
Good luck!
Congrats & way to go Splitshot! ...that's one nice fish!
(What are the odds -- that's three derbies almost in a row over the past couple of years there all with 13.3# winning lakers.)
Thanks Scott, I just wondered if any were showing up yet. We spent the day monkeying with the road (grading/gravel) so I didn't get a chance to toss a minnow. Noticed that the water temp was still around a cold 43 deg., so maybe they'll be a hair late this spring. who knows...maybe this weekend will be different! thanks again, Mike
...any perch showing up out front yet RR? Checked off the dock quickly last Saturday and found no signs of life. Noticed some bait and lakers moving in (finally), 100' give or take. Shouldn't be long now!
Congrats Scott!
Sounds like it was a great time, great weather too! Wish I could have attended and met everyone, but had to hit the road home early afternoon on Sat. (Next year!)
Just curious Kayakshoe, how was the icefishing at Keuka this year? I use to jig and chase tipups (20yrs. ago) across from the college in the Willow Grove area, the perch action could be unbelievable at times! Live a couple hours away, so it's always hit or miss guesstimating ice conditions there, unless it's an obvious frigid winter! Maybe next year...?
