  1. Interesting how a "popular fly" could become popular with issues like this. Good luck with your problems.
  2. Strange. I have not experienced this phenomenon. Nicks or frays in the leader would cause this unless the fly is retied with a new leader before it goes back in the water. Poor quality leader material might also be the reason. When the fish want a slow moving presentation you will notice the difference in catch rate using the stiffer leader material.
  3. I use fluorocarbon leader material in 50 lb test. You want a stiff leader to the fly as it will give the fly a good snap off the action of the attractor.
  4. Hope everything goes good for you Split.
  5. Steelhead. Normal as in slightly orange and opaque. And loose. Like she was ready to drop them in the lake.
  6. We took one about 3 weeks ago out of the lake that was full of eggs. Normal looking eggs.
  7. I have both sub troll and the fish hawk X4D on the boat. They both do the job and the display is all about personal choice. Sub troll transmits the signal through a coated cable while the fish hawk requires a transom mount transducer to receive the signal. Again all about personal choice. Another transducer with holes in the boat or maintenance of the coated cable. Your question was what unit was the best bang for the buck? I would say the sub troll.
  8. These changes were implemented without any feedback from the majority of the am fishermen Paul. Every rule change pissed of a few more guys while we watched the pro division remain untouched. If rules were changed to satisfy a couple boats it should not have been done and the entry level was on a slow but steady decline over the coarse of 3 or 4 years. Open communication was the last nail in the coffin.
  9. Thats laughable. After fishing the proams in the amatuer division for quite a few years the major complaint I and alot of the other regulars had was you guys changing the freakin rules every year. Fixing things that weren't broken while the pro division remained untouched. It was "fixed" to the point that nobody fished it anymore when prior to the the "fixing" the am division had a good turnout. Baffling to me why nobody could see this happening.
  10. Find a friend with one and swap them out one at a time.
  11. I put about 175 ft of 40 lb Ande as a backing on my Tekotas, with 1000 ft of 30 lb Malin wire and it filled the spool nicely. I like a full reel as the line counters are much more accurate. Never been down to the backing yet on a fish. Good luck. Glen
  12. Here you go. Two good ones, check them out. Good luck. riptidecharters.com hairballcharters.com
  13. When are you going? I'll contact some friends from the area and get back to you.
  14. A quality 15 lb test will handle big KIngs if: 1 You have good drags 2. There are no fleas 3 You are not combat fishing Kinda sounds like Heaven don't it?
  15. Tough fishing but they are there to be had if you work for them. Looking forward to some easy fishing. LOL But when??
  16. You have a screw that goes through the center of the swing latch. Tighten it up. Every once and a while they will loosen.
  17. Any of you guys running the micro leadcore? What knot are you using to secure the core to the leader? Thanks
  18. It's a lot of work to fish that shallow. Got to keep those lures clean.
  19. Most fish on Saturday came in stupid shallow water on sticks, The area was blown out with heavy mud on Sunday and the fish moved out and south. Spoons run right on bottom out produced the sticks by a large margin.
  20. Kicked off my season with a weekend trip. Fishing was tough on Saturday and it took me a while to dial them in but we got um. Biggest Brown was about 7 1/2 lbs but we did some good numbers. Also picked up a couple Small Mouth with one pushing 5 lbs, a nice Northern and a bonus nice Walleye. These guys were strictly C&R so no pictures of a box but one of the guys sent me some pictures he took on the water. Connor the youngest member of the party took the Northern, the Walleye and the biggest Bass. The northern earned him a cool 40 bucks for big fish of the trip as well as the nickname "Pike Man" Couple of decent Browns.
