tekota600LC & blue diamond rod ?
spoonfed-1 replied to BAITNH's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Sounds like you need to do some maintenance on those Tekotas. Absolutely no reason for sticky drags on those 600's other than neglect. At least on the 16 I own anyway. All with the original drag washers. No upgrades. Probably just need to grease the drag washers. They are a wet drag system. Counter window I can't help you with as I never had that problem. Good luck. -
tekota600LC & blue diamond rod ?
spoonfed-1 replied to BAITNH's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Been running the same two Tekota 600's with wire for about 9 or 10 years now without any complaints. They have taken many big kings and still going strong. Also have an older set of the Blue Diamond roller rods and a set of Tolara roller rods and I prefer the Shimano Tolaras over the Okumas for Kings. Either way you will be happy. Good luck with your purchase. -
Looks good !!! Good luck with your AP.

Convert to hydraulic steering and you will have a much greater selection of AP's and better performance from the unit you put in. I wouldn't say there is a "cheap " way out if you want performance. I know plenty of guys that took the cheap route and they are happy until the wind kicks up a bit. Good luck with your decision.

In general I would say yes, there is a benefit to running hydraulic steering with an AP. Not having any experience with the Raymarine units you are referring to I will leave it at that. Good luck with your project. Glen

Andy the rods I was talking about are Okuma BD-C-1002MH-1 10' I ran them last winter on Seneca with my slide divers and they worked well. Enough backbone to run the full size divers but limber enough to detect hits from some really small LL's and enjoy a battle from those 3-6 lb fish we hit. They work excellent for the LO Browns as well. Good luck with whatever you end up with.

I run a couple of Okuma 10 ft dypsy rods for my slide divers with Braid. Great for LO Browns and Finger Lakes fish. I'll post up the model # after work Andy..

Thanks Nick, I appreciate the offer. However this is going to be a wait and see (weather0 type deal. Not much time for planning and another fishermen with me. I'd hate to infringe on such short notice. I'll call you for sure if I got room Scott. I can fit three if the lake isn't to bumpy. If memory serves me right we did two lakes and close to 100 fish in 2 1/2 days. I would definitely rate those numbers as a "BLAST". LOL You been out at all?

Good luck. Like I said Wellcraft is a great boat

I have an 89 Coastal walk around that will be going up for sale this spring. I bought a 262 Penn Yan to run my business out of. To answer your question Wellcraft Coastals were a quality built boat that handles rough water great. Wellcraft went down the tubes during the height of the recession in 09. I loved the boat and was great for fun fishing with three or 4 guys and the wife and I have spent many over nights in the large cabin. Also did very well in the proams against a lot of bigger boats. Just not big enough for running a Charter business out of She will do about 40 mph at wot with the 200 hp Yami and trolls great on the 15 hp 4 stroke kicker. Cruises like a dream at 30 mph. Hope you find one that you like. Long season with the outboards Over all I would give the Coastal a great rating and not just because I owned one.

Now the holidays are over I will be looking to take the 5 hr drive out for the Seneca LL's. The trip will have to be a quick decision as it's all weather dependent and it's gotta happen on a weekend due to work. Last year I was laid off so I could go when the weather allowed and stayed at my buddys house, rustyrat (thanks Scott) but this year I am pressed for time and weekends only. Biggest problem is I will need lodging close to the South End of Seneca and it's got to be able to accommodate my truck and 16 fter. Hopefully I could leave my gear in the boat and have it still be there the next morning. I also need to get reservations within a couple days of the trip. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks Glen

smart troll vs fish hawk
spoonfed-1 replied to Hooked on Kings's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Can't tell you how many thousands of fish I've taken out of temp. I see them on the graph, I catch them. I don't see them on the graph, I move. Down speed and temp is a good tool absolutely. I much prefer a quality FF. Fish Hawk, Depth Raider or Sub Troll. They all work and it's all about personal preference. I run a Sub troll and it does what I want it to do. Good luck. Glen -
x 2 Talora TLA-80mrg-2 8 ft coupled with a Shimano tekota 600lc is a pretty sweet rig for LO Kings. Do you need a roller guide rod? No. But they are a pleasure to fish wire with and your wire will last a couple of seasons longer going through the rollers. Worth the extra money as far as I'm concerned. Good luck
