  1. I think 3 rods on the Finger lakes would be fine EXCEPT for Traveling man, Lytline and Rusty Rat as these three guys would decimate the lakes fish population with all those rods out. Glen
  2. Replaced the impeller and the boat ran great. Even managed a few trout. Impeller was not damaged just plain wore out. Housing was fine. Thanks for the replys. Glen
  3. Thanks for the suggestions and thanks for the offer Hank. Really appreciate it. Have a great Holiday. Glen
  4. Thanks Guys. Guess I'll start tearing it apart tomorrow night. Got to get it running for the 4 day long cold weekend ahead. Might be the last fishable weekend before all the ramps are iced in. After that it's probably just a couple Cayuga trips this winter if they get the bubbler system going at Tauganock. Glen
  5. I was out on a local pond this morning and my outboard overheated. I froze my azz off but the motor overheated. It's a 1998 20 hp Evinrude 2 stroke. I figure it's the impeller because when I first started it at the launch, yup the icy launch, it took quite a while for the water to start pissing out the outflow. Thought at first it might have been iced up but once it started it stayed week. When I cut her down to trolling speed it took about 15 minutes before the overheat alarm went off. Anybody got any pointers on replacing this. Never done it before. This is a new to me boat and I don't know when, if ever, its been changed. Thanks Glen
  6. Always got a spot open for you. Glen
  7. Sure looks sweet Chris. Best of luck with her. Coming out to the Bar this spring? Glen
  8. I usually start looking for Kings in June out of Mexico Bay out in deep water and it's more like July before we start connecting with mature fish with any consistency. April and May are spent Brown fishing which is usually good. As someone mentioned you can find Salmon out deep which are generally smaller fish but every so often you can run into some mature fish as well. Steelhead fishing has been on an upswing the last couple years in the east end as well. Every so often we tie into a Salmon while Brown fishing in the spring but thats pretty rare. As far as fishing now you can find some good Brown and Steelhead fishing in November but the weather usually sucks, cold and windy as hell. If you go now keep safety first. Count on being the only one out there and help is not easy to come by should something happen. Enjoy the boat. Glen
  9. What part of the lake are you looking to fish? Makes a big difference. Glen
  10. The 18 inch minimum would have worked out good last year seeing how there wasn't any Salmon around. Normally it wouldn't be an issue. It might be good to leave the 21 inch rule for Salmon and Steelhead and 18" on Browns. Also either allow lakers or at least 1 laker to be weighed. Glen
  11. Thanks for your responce JD. Would you use the auto pilot while casting for bass? Glen
  12. Speedy recovery Bob. Glen
  13. I just bought a 16 foot Alumacraft with a 20 hp Evinrude for a winter boat. Will also be used for the occasional bass fishing trips on local ponds when the price of fuel goes back up to 4+ bucks a gallon next summer. It's a deep V and I need some advice for a bow mounted electric trolling motor and mounting bracket. Lbs of thrust, shaft length,12 or 24 volts and options I need or don't need ect. Thanks for any help. Glen
  14. Ditto Musky. Glen
  15. I would run flashers and flies and j-plugs. With colored water the attractors will do there job. I like protrolls with e-chips in bright colors and white for staging kings. Any chartruse or white flys will work good. Glow colors are good also in stained water. If I was limited to spoons or stickbaits I would run Magnum Northern King spoons also in bright colors as well as glows and size 13 Raplalas. My favorite color in these is Firetiger for staging kings. Good luck. Glen
  16. Thanks, Where is Bluffers park? Need to locate it to see if this would be possible for me. Glen
  17. That Tight Lines tournament sounds interesting. Where is it out of? When? 1 or 2 days? Thanks Glen
  18. Well put Chromeslayer. Glen
  19. I fished almost every proam for 5 years now. Had one less than desireable observer, but not to bad, out of all of them. The rest did there job and most really wanted to learn. I was glad to teach them what little I know. As far as my experience goes, I disagree with you whole heartedly. It absolutely DOES help to maintain the integety and quailty of the tournaments. Nothing is perfect though. Life has taught me that. Glen
  20. I keep reading on this thread "I won't fish the pro-ams because I got to have an observer." Bull_ _ it. There are all kinds of rediculous ways you can come up with to eliminate the observer and each has it's own set of inconvienences and faults. Now lets see, we can create all kinds of turmoil and open the door to cheating and a decreased quality experience or guess what.... we can use observers and keep an even playing field for all involved. What a concept. I read this anti observer crap but haven't read one good reason why we should not have observers. My reasons for keeping the observers are it maintains the quality and integrety of the tournaments. That seems like a pretty good reason to me. Anybody else? Keep it simple. Glen
  21. Mosy salmon and trout species will hit better when you have a surface chop as opposed to a flat calm surface. Especially if there in the top 50 feet or so of the water columb. I believe it diffusses the light penitration and the fish are not as skitterish and spooky. Also breaks up the outline of the boat going over them. No hard evidence of this just what I've seen from experience. "A lake trout chop is when you either take a steak hatchet to the flesh" Glen
  22. Thats what I did and I don't have any problems at all. When I put my kicker on I replaced the water seperator with one from Mercury that has one in and 2 outs. Going on the sixth season next spring. Glen
  23. I am also in favor of bringing back the culling rule. Especially after the reduced limit of 6 fish. If the no cull is kept the limit should be raised back up to 9. Let the winners rely on skill to take the prize as opposed to luck. Other than that I thought the proams were very well run and organized. Nice job pro-am committee. Yes Scott, that no cull rule really hurt in Niagara. "Ouch". 45 minutes of fishing on Sunday morning to box out and our weight went down the tubes. Was a real nice payout for 7th though. $1000.00 Glen
  24. The pro-ams where built up and stuctured to be the most prestiges tournament on the lake. That is why my team goes through the serious expense and travel to fish them. We got enough DERBYS. Lets stop trying to turn this tournament into a derby. Got to have observers to keep an even playing field for all involved. The lake cup is THE ultimate prize. My opinion is lets leave this one alone and continue those prestiges pro-am accomplishments. It's also my opinion that the people who fish these pro-ams are top notch sportsmen as well as fishermen. I have fished quite a few of these events and 99% of our observers were very good people. Usually people that are looking to learn new things to improve on there own fishing skills. I guess I could see adding another division and monitor how it would effect the quality of the experience but I hope they don't screw up the amateur division any more. Glen
