I run a 15 Honda on my 25 ft Wellcraft. Never had any problem with boat control in any conditions and it pushes the boat around at about 6.5 mph wide open. That being said, it does burn more gas than I like and I believe a 9.9 would have been sufficient. The reason I went with the 15 was it was a left over and I got a great deal on it with power trim, electric start and controls for about the same price as that years 9.9. Both good motors and will do the job. Glen

yup. 4wd . I don't need it often but sure is nice when I do. Glen

Ed, The only problem I had was the first two I bought were from the 1st producton run of the reels. I had line creep on one and they replaced the drag system on it. Shimano was very sympathetic to the problem and were great to deal with. If you go to the websight for the phone # and call the service dept. during regular bussiness hours you will probably get instant results. Good luck. They are great reels. Glen

Leader length from fly to small 4 inch prochip
spoonfed-1 replied to Steve Cuddeback's topic in Tackle and Techniques
Put two in the water with the leaders a little shorter and a little longer than protroll recommends. Get up to trolling speed and observe the action at boatside. Then let them both out and see which one is taking more hits. This will tell you what you want to run. Other than that I can't help you much because I don't run the small ones. On small dodgers I run about a 16 in leader but have taken fish with them up to 21 inches. Glen -
20 lb flea flicker with 200 foot of 8 lb test pline 100% flourocarbon on top. When the fleas start showing up I cut the 8 lb floro back as needed. By the time they are in full flea bloom I'm down to about 15 foot of 8 lb and the flea flicker does it's job. Before the fleas start I got straight 8 out there. Glen

Scott... Whos that guy with the Browns? You find him at the launch. LOL

slide divers with different types of line
spoonfed-1 replied to dremarquis's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
Ken I use real tiny barrel swivels to join the lines. I wanna say size 8's or 10's. Just checked as I'm respooling up for the season and the ones I have here are #8 Spros. They are 50 lb test that I use on the big lake. On the Fingers I'm pretty sure I used to use 10's. Anyway I use a polymer knot for the braid to the swivel and a regular cinch knot on the mono. Never had any issues. Good luck Glen -
2007 Spring derby. Where will the winner come from
spoonfed-1 posted a topic in Open Lake Discussion
RM, The derby winner will come from the Niagara bar on May 8th. It will weigh 28 lbs 4 oz and will be caught on the Spoonfed. More than likely by the wife as she doesn't let me get to to many rods. LOL. Glen -
Hey Reel Magic, Good to hear from you. You should be happy out at the Bar with Candy. I had a friend of his as an observer in the proams last year. From what I hear he's a good fisherman and you won't be dissapointed. Get in touch with me before then and we can get together out there. The guys at work that sent you that case of plates by mistake are still real happy with your honesty. More important they are still employed. LOL. Keep in touch. Glen P.S. Second place wil be just fine.

Rich we will be out from the 5th to the 13th for the derby. Staying in a cabin. Can't bring the camper and boat so we rented a cabin. We should know where they are by the time you get out so maybe save you some time looking. Glen

slide divers with different types of line
spoonfed-1 replied to dremarquis's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
Andre, that is a common problem with Braids and slide divers. Before you clamp the lever down on the piece of surgical tubing rotate it 90 deg then clamp it down. Should take care of your slippage. Personally I run a mono leader of about 50 foot after the Braid and clamp on that. I like the mono leader as it acts some what like a snubber behind a dipsy. Glen -
Andre, If the fish are spooky you might be better off using slide divers instead of dipsys. Slide divers work the same as dipsys but you can run them a lot farther away for the lure. With wire you add a piece of mono about 50 or 60 foot long. You let out the mono as far as you want. Usually 30-50 foot and then set your diver. Very good system for big old smart, spooky fish. I run 20 lb test wire and really wouldn't want to go with anything lighter. I run 7 strand Malin wire and have been happy with it. Good luck. Glen

Thanks. I appreciate that. Sounds like it would be fun. You know any weekend you want to fish the big lake I'm there. Picked up a newer camper last fall to. Pretty comfortable. Come up and fish some Browns if the snow ever melts. Glen

Hey Scott. Good to hear from you. No, no secrets. I didn't tell them I run them in the spring. Opps. I see there might be a little Cayuga get together tourney this summer. Think you might need a good rod man for that one? Save me from hauling the boat down. Be good to get back on the lake and see both shores at the same time. Benn a few years now. Glen

opinions needed for which fish finder to buy
spoonfed-1 replied to pleasure unit's topic in Tackle and Techniques
PU, I switched from a transom mount to a thru hull on my Furuno last spring on the advice of King Me and it is like night and day when you are on plane. I would never run a transom mount again. L&M, I got to back up Capt. Ace.I have seen bait AND hooks while on plane also. If I remember correctly it wasn't real choppy when this happens though. Glen -
J-plugs work really well for Salmon and I've taken some dandy Steelhead on them as well. Bloody nose silver bullets and gree glow ladderbacks are 2 plugs I won't leave the dock without. Size 4 are better for Salmon and size 3 seen to take more steelhead. Not so hot for Browns though. Glen
-
Ok Buddy, You scared me there for a minute. Glen

Thanks for the help Rich. Memory just ain't what it used to be. LOL Are you saying Browns won't be eligable? In Mexico Bay? I must have missed that part. Talk to you soon. Glen

The meeting went well and everything is a go. Ron took the notes as the votes were taken on the different issues and will post all the specifics on the gla board i guess. I will go very lightly here because I don't want to post incorrect info. What I am quite sure about is 2 adults per boat minimum. Leave dock at 5:00 start fishing at 6:00. Must be at the weigh in before 2:00. State rules with a slight variation on min. size. Can't remember exactly. It was dedcided to set the entry fee at $50.00 to keep it affordable and fun. Weigh in 6 largest fish. There will be an additional ticket fee for cookout after the tourny. Thats about all I am relativley sure of. Like I said RonJ has all the details in writing so he can fill in the blanks. Sounds like it will be a real fun tourney with a good turn out. Hpe that helps. Glen

Dick, Spoke with Bill Hilts jr. This past weekend. The new rules are in the hands of the people who will post them on the pro-am websight.. Just a matter of finding the time to do it. Glen
