  1. Andre, If the fish are spooky you might be better off using slide divers instead of dipsys. Slide divers work the same as dipsys but you can run them a lot farther away for the lure. With wire you add a piece of mono about 50 or 60 foot long. You let out the mono as far as you want. Usually 30-50 foot and then set your diver. Very good system for big old smart, spooky fish. I run 20 lb test wire and really wouldn't want to go with anything lighter. I run 7 strand Malin wire and have been happy with it. Good luck. Glen
  2. Thanks. I appreciate that. Sounds like it would be fun. You know any weekend you want to fish the big lake I'm there. Picked up a newer camper last fall to. Pretty comfortable. Come up and fish some Browns if the snow ever melts. Glen
  3. Hey Scott. Good to hear from you. No, no secrets. I didn't tell them I run them in the spring. Opps. I see there might be a little Cayuga get together tourney this summer. Think you might need a good rod man for that one? Save me from hauling the boat down. Be good to get back on the lake and see both shores at the same time. Benn a few years now. Glen
  4. PU, I switched from a transom mount to a thru hull on my Furuno last spring on the advice of King Me and it is like night and day when you are on plane. I would never run a transom mount again. L&M, I got to back up Capt. Ace.I have seen bait AND hooks while on plane also. If I remember correctly it wasn't real choppy when this happens though. Glen
  5. J-plugs work really well for Salmon and I've taken some dandy Steelhead on them as well. Bloody nose silver bullets and gree glow ladderbacks are 2 plugs I won't leave the dock without. Size 4 are better for Salmon and size 3 seen to take more steelhead. Not so hot for Browns though. Glen
  6. Ok Buddy, You scared me there for a minute. Glen
  7. Thanks for the help Rich. Memory just ain't what it used to be. LOL Are you saying Browns won't be eligable? In Mexico Bay? I must have missed that part. Talk to you soon. Glen
  8. The meeting went well and everything is a go. Ron took the notes as the votes were taken on the different issues and will post all the specifics on the gla board i guess. I will go very lightly here because I don't want to post incorrect info. What I am quite sure about is 2 adults per boat minimum. Leave dock at 5:00 start fishing at 6:00. Must be at the weigh in before 2:00. State rules with a slight variation on min. size. Can't remember exactly. It was dedcided to set the entry fee at $50.00 to keep it affordable and fun. Weigh in 6 largest fish. There will be an additional ticket fee for cookout after the tourny. Thats about all I am relativley sure of. Like I said RonJ has all the details in writing so he can fill in the blanks. Sounds like it will be a real fun tourney with a good turn out. Hpe that helps. Glen
  9. Dick, Spoke with Bill Hilts jr. This past weekend. The new rules are in the hands of the people who will post them on the pro-am websight.. Just a matter of finding the time to do it. Glen
  10. I got the same thing as Musky at 8:20 pm. Glen
  11. As a general rule the deeper I'm fishing the shorter the lead. In clear shallow water for Browns I will drop back as much as 200 feet. Out deep for salmon there are days where the fish want it right off the ball like 5 feet and there are times when they won't touch it unless it's 40+ foot back. Let them tell you where to run it. Glen
  12. Blowback is caused by the resistance of your moving downrigger weight against the water. The faster you go the more resistance, therefore the more blowback you will get. It will cause your weight, and lure, to run higher than the amount of cable you have out. Sometimes considerably higher. Watch your cable angles this season at different speeds while you are trolling and it will be real obvious to you, Watch for cross angles caused by underwater currents also. It is usually not a good idea to raise or lower your riggers under the cross current conditions or you wll increase your odds of crossing your cables. The heavier and more streamlined your weights are the less blowback you will have. I fish with torpedo shaped weights especially when fishing deep. Hope that helps. Glen
  13. The original top on my 1989 25' Wellcraft is Sunbrella. Still looks new. I got to water proof this season with something but the material is holding up great. For the last 3 seasons it's been up from April thru Oct. Can't tell you how much it was used before that but I would guess quite a bit. Glen
  14. Tool and Die Maker fulltime. Teach AutoCAD, a drafting software, for a Machine Technology program at a Community College part time nights. Did a 5 year stint in the Engineering department as a Mold Designer and ended up back on the floor at another company for more money. Glen
  15. Thanks Alan, Hope you two are wintering well. I have Hydralic steering so I won't have to do the cable thing but the units are more money. I have to call Simrad and get some specifics regarding the dimensions of the control units and make up my mind. Way it looks right now I will go with the AP12 and try to fit it on the dash if possible but if I can't your mounting advice with the cord will be the way to go. Prices at planetgps are the lowest I've seen so far. Thanks for your input. Glen
  16. NYF, Thanks for the info. Do you guys find you use the corded remote much? Glen
  17. Thanks Tim. My dash area is getting low on space. It looks like the ap12 has a smaller control so thats why I'm probably going to go that way. Is the control unit on the 14 stationary? In the only pictures I have found it shows a cable coming out the bottom and the 12 doesn't seem to have one. Thanks for your help. Glen
  18. Anybody got any experience with the AP12 ? Also where did you guys find the best price? Thanks Glen
  19. Thanks Rich. How far would that be from Fort Niagara? Glen
  20. Don't know yet Clarke. Might just get a room this year. Hauling out all that gear, setting up and breaking down plus the boat is starting to chew up to much fishing time. No definate plans yet though. Glen
  21. Hi Rich. Yup. We will be out there. See you then. Glen
  22. I thought we would be OK in the water for this year but would have to have one for 2008. Did I get the info wrong? Thanks glen
  23. We run Scotty powergrips and have been for years. They work great. We use the small size for Browns and the large for Salmon. What I really like most about them is because they are on a leader off the ball I can see my rod tip bouncing even with a very small fish on that won't release because of size. Keeps me from dragging the little guys around the lake. Glen
  24. Thanks guys. digital dagger $157.00 ea. free shipping. I bought a couple off them previously without problems so I decided to go with them again. Quick shipment as well. Glen
