  1. Harvey, I had my wife send you a check for $85 with our shipping address. I also send a couple of pms over the last week, but apparently they're not getting through. Please let me know when you get the check. Much appreciated.
  2. He must be getting swamped lol. My need is not immediate, so feel free to put me on the back burner, but I'd like to get two 12 lb torpedos when you have a chance. Let's touch base when you're less busy.
  3. Hi Harvey, sent you a pm regarding 13 lb torpedo weights. Cheers!
  4. You didn't mention which rods you were using currently, but I will tell you that taking a Dremel to the guide rings is only going to exacerbate your problem. If they are truly grooved, then they either need to be replaced or you need to ditch the rod. We use Shimano Talora rods with Twili Tips and have never broke off at the wire, except once at the knot near the Dipsy. We run four diver sets, using 8' Talora with a Mag diver on the inside, 9 1/2' with a Deeper Diver on the outside. IMHO, cheap roller rods are more of a PITA than they are worth. And good roller rods are beaucoup $$. Good luck.
  5. We fished the evening last night and had six rips in 150', but only one king to the boat, and he was hooked in the eye lol. Crazy current, changing temperatures, a compressed comfort zone (28 degree break over eight feet, unreal), and some NW wind played us.
  6. Actually, maybe if we keep him busy enough, he won't have time to beat us at the Sandy Creek Shootout. Turns out the guy knows how to fish for kings, too, unfortunately . I can just see it now - a Gambler version of an umbrella rig to fish king salmon. Can you imagine?
  7. Please, stop ordering these...I'd like to fish with Brian once in a while, and he's been busy satisfying customers lately. If only they didn't catch so dang many lakers lol.
  8. Big ones? Can't tell you how to target them exclusively, but the south end of canadice is loaded with pickerel. I've caught them on topwater fishing for bass even.
  9. Which summit is that? Ampersand? We love that walk. Or is that Baker Mountain? I need my coffee... We will be on Upper Saranac for a week in September, too, and we'll have our 1 1/2 year old lab with us then. He is a warrior. I can't wait to see him tackle some trails. Deer flies I can deal with. Black flies and mosquitoes are what get me. I'm glad I slept in today (until 5:30, anyway). It looks like the lake is kicking. Tommy, Jeff, and I got out yesterday and did okay, but not as well as Tommy, his daughter Mallory, and I did on Friday. The first two hours were insane. The temperatures off Sandy have come up, and there were lots of fish busting bait on the surface yesterday morning.
  10. Sweet! We will be up there from Thursday to Sunday this week. Hopefully the combination of thunderstorms and hot weather won't have the bugs snapping lol. Good luck with that.
  11. And Gambler's new Death Traps seems to work better when the current is ripping!! They are more speed tolerant, according to the boss.
  12. Ditto
  13. It's tough to beat a John King pearl double glow combo (https://www.michiganangler.com/2013/Pearl_DG_Combo.jpg) - his meat heads are stout and run well without any bending or tuning. Plus, they accept cut or whole bait, trimmed right of course. We run lots of these heads behind 10" Spin Doctors, too. Order them plain then tie up your own tournament rigs using #2 VMC trebles and a single 5/0 Gamakatsu snelled in line in front of three beads on 50 lb fluorocarbon.(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NaFol9tnhPw).
  14. The Saranac chain offers different types of water, from Lake Flower and Oseetah, which are shallow and weedy, to Upper Saranac, which is more rocky and typical ADK. It can be tough to find a place to stay, but there are campgrounds on Lower Saranac and Fish Creek, off Upper Saranac. Smallmouth are abundant, as you'd expect Oseetah has a great pike fishery, throwing soft jerkbaits on top of the weedbeds is a blast. If you like to kayak, there is some fantastic water that's restricted to paddling nearby. It is our favorite area up there.
  15. We did okay, comparatively. We were three for four on kings and caught half a dozen steelies, with another three or four rips that we missed. It was sporadic from 160' out past 400', but most of the fish came on riggers at 90' and 150' wire mag divers. I had a newbie on board, so we only fished four rods - sometimes more is less. Wonderbread 28 size was best.
  16. Great talk, as usual Pete! I would have made the same decision as your landowner, but my management principles revolve around habitat first, with timber value somewhat distant. LMK if you are going to jig lakers at Sandy this summer. Brian and I have been talking about a trip soon.
  17. You found what we found. We trolled from 160 to 380 headed Northwest out of the creek, only to go 0/8 on the way out. No dropsies, just a rip then gone. I think that it was the wicked current. Once we turned West, we managed to hook up, and we landed our next half dozen fish. On the swing, we hit a few more, then it was a pick for the last hour headed East. We ran in at 9:30 to grab the chainsaw before it got tot hot to work in the woods. Spoons were the ticket today- maybe Wonder Bread was best? But all the rods took shots. 90 down on the riggers and 150 on the wire divers with a Mag Dispy seemed best.
  18. The "old" NK blue that's a lighter shade of metallic, powderpuff blue is a killer for steelhead up high. The new, deeper blue isn't as good - no clue why.
  19. Sounds like a fantastic trip! From jackets to shorts - you guys had all the weather.
  20. It's a good idea to replace those connections every ten years anyway, particularly with the load DR draw. We had a rotten one a couple years ago. It's also a good chance to clean up the wiring and install new fuses....keepin' it tight lol
  21. They started back up. I don't know about now, but the previous iteration was the cats meow.
  22. I will catch whatever the big guy upstairs sees fit to put in the path of my rod. So - what do you use for Asian Carp lol?
  23. Get them started early!! My buddy and I took our teenagers out yesterday, too. Great time on the lake.
  24. You can come cook for me anytime, Kevin!
