  1. Your son is pure magic. I've got to listen to him call sometime.
  2. Rob -- broken links? I'm getting "pages not found"
  3. My livewell temperature in the kayak today was lake temp. This time, I managed to bleed them on the outside of the boat...using heavy duty shears rather than a penknife did the trick.
  4. I bled some walleye while kayak fishing earlier this week, and Tommy said he didn't even have to wash his fillet board lol. Unfortunately, I used my pen knife to slit their throats, and one of them juiced all over my jacket and pants. Adds realism to the spread.
  5. So, I know a little bit about sushi, having spent a year of high school in Japan. Actually, sushi is what you call it when it's on top of lightly vinegared rice, rolled in seaweed. Simple raw fish is sashimi. Raw fish cut up and cured with lime juice is ceviche, which is in a world of its own. Bahamas, baby! That having been said, although there are parasites in both fresh and saltwater fish, the real problem is that freshies harbor some nasty bacteria. And bacteria are not destroyed by freezing. My advice is that you avoid salmon sashimi while on the lake. If you do decide to indulge, can I have your boat?
  6. Keep the faith, Matt. I've been out the last five days in a row after not turkey hunting for thirty years. It's been up and down, but today rotted. That snow came just as we were leaving. I've seen a couple of birds and Tommy shot a nice tom yesterday, but nothing has come into my calling - unsurprising, since I likely sound like a wounded groundhog. But I get how this can be addicting. The birds will come. There are better days ahead.
  7. I have no personal experience, but I do recall one LOU member who posted a long, convoluted tale of his issues with customer service. Whether this was a manufacturer or dealer issue? I don't recall the exact details, but here is one of the threads:
  8. Finger lakes - Seneca, Canandaigua, Keuka, Cayuga - Lake Fork plastics on a dropper rig, for smallmouth-size perch (but fewer than Erie).
  9. Rainbow. There used to be some good ones in there, and a decent spawning run, too.
  10. I volunteer you to help out in one of the hospitals in an affected area - maybe in Wyoming county at some point. You're not immune. I don't disagree with some of your political views, but your mechanism of communicating them has led me to discount anything you say. You may be a nice enough guy, but that's a rabid post.
  11. It's going to be a PITA dealing with the fallout of this mess, but I'm not sure that bankruptcy would be any less painful. I don't know enough to comment intelligently, but I've had some folks who I respect tell me that it would trigger the equivalent of economic nuclear fallout. And if NY plus California both do it, well...the national economy is likely to experience second-hand disaster. Of course, at this point that may be like shooting someone after they've fallen off a cliff.
  12. Love him, and hug him, and call him, "George".
  13. It sounds to me like the fish are still there, but it's too muddy to catch them. Moving out moves you away from the fish. Also, the shallower they are, the more concentrated. Could it be simple logistics? In which case, you may not be doing anything wrong. I will tell you that we do better on divers (including slide divers) in 20-30 ft, and riggers have their days. We also transition to short 100' copper in that kind of water. Good luck.
  14. Intentional on my part, but redacted because I didn't want to snark.
  15. Good argument. You convinced me. I'm going to go perpetrate some more mischief now. I invite you to join my colleagues and students on the front lines in NYC. If you think this is a hoax, my guess is that would disabuse you of the notion.
  16. Stepped outside onto the icy walk this morning and got my @ss handed to me. The entire next week looks like a wash.
  17. "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts." Bertrand Russell Does that mean that having doubts makes me wise lol? Cause my order for a crystal ball is still sitting in an Amazon warehouse somewhere. You are 100% right that we're in new territory. But more importantly, will this dang NE wind ever quit?
  18. The fact that we can even debate this issue indicates that social distancing was effective. You don't think that a contagion like COVID-19 suddenly decided to play nice, do you? We made sacrifices, and we are winning. Now, maybe the medicine was worse than the disease, but it is IMHO waaaaay to early to even suggest such a thing. Let's adopt a rational, measured approach to reopening and save the 20/20 hindsight for when we're past the danger zone.
  19. I agree with you 100% - information is powerful. Whether we agree or disagree, we should all make informed decisions.
  20. D&C is behind the times. There's a new story in today's paper about how they're open. The Syracuse link is based on "outdated" guidance from last Wednesday lol. They are definitely open.
  21. I'm stoked that we can launch boats legally now, but I don't automatically think that my individual freedoms supersede societal responsibility. With its magnitude and the constantly changing situation...I wouldn't want to be in charge. No matter what, folks are going be pissed at you.
  22. Now that's lucky!
  23. Crack kills.
  24. Well...according to guidance from the State, all launches and access points, private or public, are closed to recreational boating. That would seem to include just about everywhere. Now, I'd be lying if I said that the launch on Canadice looked closed this afternoon, or that I didn't see a bunch of kayak fishermen. But there were trailers in other, more popular launch lots as well, and you know for dang certain that they're closed. So you've got to ask yourself - do you feel lucky?
