  1. Wow, this is a popular topic! Be careful applying heat to these rods. You might get the tip off, but you're likely to damage the carbon fibers as well. This could cause a dramatic failure in the future. If the tip sags at all after you've heated it up, then you know you need to cut it off below the damaged section. Just sayin'
  2. John knows that of which he speaks lol. Don't try to heat up the tip in order to remove it. Those Talora rods, and all of our rods are Taloras, aren't built for sissies. You will melt the blank. As for 7 versus 19 strand, IMHO our major issue has been when a single strand shears and necessitates cutting the entire thing. 19 strand would seem to be more susceptible to that drawback. I don't know whether the advantage of being more supple outweighs this or not.
  3. How much trouble would I get in if I said that Whalers, like the Patriots, are overrated? Crap, there goes my community rating lol. Can't wait to see her in the water! You going to come over and play with us or go West?
  4. Any boat that you purchase will be vastly improved by the addition of an autopilot. It was the best investment that we've made, bar none, in our fifteen years of owning a Lake Ontario fishing boat.
  5. I don't know whether it's true or not, but I've heard that one of the properties of copper that helps to make it effective is that it's electrically conductive, and that a shorter leader can help tap into that advantage. A short leader also transmits the "undulations" that you get from speed and current more effectively to the lure. To me, however, you have to weigh a short leader against the shock resistance that a longer leader provides, given that copper doesn't have any give. We compromise by running our leaders at 15', and we catch fish. Since I haven't test this directly, I can't say whether we catch more or less fish than we would with a longer leader. I do know that when I demo'd a 5' leader we broke off more than a few fish, so I wouldn't recommend going too short.
  6. Do you feel that having the wings on either side of the lure made a difference? I can see how they'd be a great attractant when the bite is hot; I wonder if they'd be counterproductive on a slow day.
  7. I agree that more susceptible and/or limited fisheries shouldn't be commented on specifically. But it's no secret that Sodus is on fire and has been for the better part of two years. Parking is a zoo and the slobs may cause us to lose some access points, but the fishing is great for small-medium perch. And Seneca has big perch, but don't tell anyone .
  8. Awesome!
  9. Democrats, aliens, and those meddling kids!
  10. Find a different lawyer. Your guy doesn't seem to have his facts in order. Not every lawyer is versed in this type of law. Then sue them. Sometimes unfortunately the only way you can get results is with threats. And at this point it's become more than just your purchase. If New Orleans Saints fans can sue the NFL for lost enjoyment of life, I bet you have a case lol. Then have the lawyer communicate with everyone involved to show that you're serious. Dealer, rep, factory...everyone. Have them claim documentation of breach of warranty and misrepresentation. And attach a big number to your claim, with increasing amounts due for every day that the issue persists.
  11. Oh, Billy, Billy, Billy...
  12. You and me both. I've yet to run into a WNY'er who likes the Patriots. Although the bit TB did in "Ted 2" was priceless.
  13. You are asking $555 for items that total ~$450 brand new. No insult intended, but am I missing something? I'd be interested, but that depends greatly on your definition of a reasonable offer. Please feel free to pm me.
  14. Honda makes some good engines, but I'm partial to Yamaha. All of my boats have had them from F50 to F200 and they haven't missed a beat in twenty years. Unfortunately they're all 15+ years old now and I can't network them to add the electronic variable throttle control. That would be FANTASTIC on Nothing but Net. I hate having to bump the throttle ever so slightly to go from a low 700 to a high 700 in rough seas.
  15. I'd have retained a lawyer well before this. Good luck.
  16. Sheds are my favorite squirrel bait and keep me in top shooting form through the winter. I sure hope baiting squirrels with antlers isn't illegal lol.
  17. I will post for Matt and Scott, who both sent me the same links. Awesome guys, and thanks. Fillet board is Deep Blue 40" board without drawer. At Tackle Direct: https://www.tackledirect.com/deep-blue-ftb-40-large-boat-fillet-table.html it's $179 Rod holder mounts are Magma Levelock Adjustable Rod Holder Mount MAG-T10-355. I bought mine through Wholesale Marine, but they run ~$70 apiece and are available lots of places. You want two of them.
  18. Looks like a fun day. We just picked up a fox red lab puppy a few weeks ago, so with the next year to work with him, I'll be back in the game next fall. Late season was always my favorite time. Particularly back when it was ten days and I could hunt each and every one of them. I cut my teeth on Keuka - redhead central. Every year gets a little bit busier and a little bit harder to get out, but the new pup gives me a great excuse. Hunting without a dog just wasn't the same. Are you making your own dekes? I'd love to get a better look at them if you have some pics to post. And I ordered the fillet board for the boat yesterday, thx.
  19. Awesome! Thanks.
  20. Hey Scotty, do you clean the fish with the cleaning board hanging over the side like that with the rod holders in the deployed position? Because I've been reluctant to pull the trigger, figuring that spraying the floor was better than trying to get blood off the transom, gunnel, rod holders, motor, or anything else above deck, which gets swabbed anyway. Your setup seems to circumvent the problem though.
  21. 20% below asking is nothing. The broker isn't doing you just service.
  22. I'd be interested in hearing some feedback on the new Tekota reels as well. The first thing that we did with the old ones was send them to Tuna Tom for the drag upgrade. Which seems silly, but made all the difference. It would be nice to see them perform flawlessly out of the box though. x2 on the Saltist, of course, but you know that.
  23. That's awesome! Keep it coming.
  24. Or Mr. Tommy, lol. Both of them have sterling reputations. My Lund is currently with Tommy having some work done and I don't know Hank personally, but from what I've heard you can't go wrong with either. So, Hank is East and Tommy is West. Good luck!
  25. Nice show!
