The auditorium at the SAU wasn't overflowing last night, but there was a good representative showing of ~50 or so, maybe a few more. The guys from across the border had an interesting presentation on walleye migrations tracked through telemetry, but other than the cool factor I'm not sure of the bottom line. Fish go into Quinte during the winter and come out into the lake during the summer. Anyway, they're doing it again this year, so if you catch a tagged walleye up there, don't eat the transmitter! (try to release the fish if you can, of course). Otherwise, the printed synopsis reflected the presentation almost point-by-point. The fish are healthy, we had a record hatch of alewives in 2016 following two (cold) years of record low recruitment, so the bait's out there...with some potentially interesting differences between the US and Canada, which is now included in the trawls...and not many folks made it out last year because of the record water, but for those that did, it was banner fishing. That's the nutshell version, I'm sure I missed stuff.

Cancelled - Sports Show at Del Lago 3/16/18 - 3/18/18
Gator replied to Fbog12's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
I wasn't at my best yesterday...we graduated another PhD on Tuesday, went out celebrating, and I think I have a beer allergy. That's the only way I can explain having felt so poorly on Wednesday. Is Scotty sarcastic sometimes? Is the Pope Catholic? Does a bear sh$t in the woods? -

Didn't they just open their doors last year, right around show season? -

Hey Dan, I don't know if this applies, but my wife runs research trials at URMC using computer based retraining to help stroke victims who have subsequently impaired vision. I know that PT often ignores the visual system, but its loss can really impact quality of life. Feel free to shoot me a pm. This goes for anyone on here or their loved ones; she's always recruiting and has seen some phenomenal success, in fact they're starting a large scale clinical trial soon. Keep on keeping on!

I'm with you guys! Mass media, instant cultural homogenization, and everybody has the recipe. The reason it keeps happening is because we're telling everyone exactly what to do. It's not just kids who are lemmings. Monkey see, monkey do. That's most of us, me included at times. As for how all this is going to play out on gun manufacturers, I think it's impossible to predict. The pundits didn't expect gun sales to skyrocket like they did with Omaba or plummet with Trump. -
Immersion suits are very expensive, but a great investment if you're going to do this routinely this time of year. Simply look online...I don't know local availability. I may be mistaken, but I think that pfd are required to be worn at all times in a kayak, summer included. Nobody does, and I may not myself on occasion. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Let me know if you find anything, Zack. I went to the trouble of carving a path out for the Lund through the snow pile that the plow left.

Normal times to catch the morning and evening bites. In the summer, from 5-9 am and from 5-9 pm seems about right. If you mean time of year, now's good with the right safety equipment and clothing. Trolling a fly rod in the Finger Lakes is very productive in March. There's no way you'd catch me on Lake Ontario this time of year though...but I bet there's guys who do it.

I'm not advocating for more gun laws. And I'm not pushing for greater restrictions. I'm just listening now, trying to figure stuff out...a measured response (if at all). But what gets me about this latest shooting is the same thing that gets me about America's "conversation on sexual harassment". The term that comes to mind is weaponized outrage. Folks are so mad they can't see straight. It's scary, because there's been some ugly, nasty stuff done throughout history by people in the throes of righteous indignation. I wish the talking heads would stop spinning this stuff for political gain and have a real conversation. -

Could one of you guys make a batch and deliver them to me? Jim may be chronologically differently-abled, but I'm just lazy. Anybody want to try navigating what's left of the ice with this snow on top of it? Please, let me know where you're fishing. I'll meet you there. And collect your gear . Seriously though, I doubt anybody would go out at this point, but can you imagine what it'd be like if we still had ice? What a mess! I think I'm fishing a kayak this weekend because it's the only boat I'm likely to be able to get near the water.

We prefer the smaller footprint of the 30. We've run 20 lb Flea Flicker and 25 lb Ande or Big Game. Non-line counter models are easier on the wrist, particularly for downriggers. But we rarely fish over 120' down and we use 30s for wire divers too.

Casting from shore, I hope! We took the dog for a walk yesterday at the North end. I can't believe that the ice has gone so fast. There's LOTS of water coming off the mountain, and every little stream has opened up a big chunk of real estate. I honestly think that you might be able to throw Cleos by this coming weekend.

If I had to choose, I'd probably go with the Otters. They're mean critters, nasty in a fight and I think that your average planer board wouldn't stand a chance. Not too many around here, thankfully. Beavers, on the other hand...
