I got mine for $60 on Amazon and am using the cap on my pickup with an old shower curtain bar to hang clothes. I'd be careful about taking a generator into the tree with you--breathing ozone isn't good for your health. Last night's sit was a total bust. No deer from the stand or in the fields walking out. This warm weather has everybody else so happy, but I'm just depressed. Enough is enough.

Short hunt last night. I thought I was busted ~6:30 when I heard a snort...got out of the stand to take a slow walk back to the truck and had a nice eight cross the trail 20 yards from me. I don't think I could have drawn without him seeing me, but he wasn't the deer I wanted anyway. I think that the snort I heard may have been him, and I don't think that it was me getting busted. I probably should have stayed in the stand. I also had a small doe feed to within twelve feet of me...it seems a lot more exciting when you're on the ground. We played the head-up, back down to feed, neck-bob game for awhile before I got tired of it and said, "Boo".

If you hit a rippin' king with his tail on fire, there's not enough line in the world...

I'll stick by my guns (pun intended) that if you've patterned a buck over the summer, you have a decent early season shot at him. Nice job! And good luck with your impending doom...I mean third child . Actually, they say two is four times as hard as one, but three is only half again as hard at two. I'm not a math major, so I'm going to interpret that as, "it's not any harder". The flip side of early season is that if your cameras are bare of any quality animals in August and September, it's unlikely that you'll have one magically show up in early October. That's my situation...does and scrubs all day. One decent buck on camera. But between October 15 and the end of November I'll have two dozen different shooters show up, as we're in a major travel corridor. I wish I could attract the summer deer, but between the large sanctuary across the street and our use of the property during the summer, it ain't happening. Finally, thanks for the tips on processors. I've used Jay on 259 by North Chili for years with zero issues, but he doesn't have refrigeration...having been said, he usually cuts it up within an hour of drop off this time of year and it's into the freezer. The one downside is that the meat takes longer to freeze and can sometimes saturate the meat wrapping paper so that the different cuts stick together when frozen. Minor problem at best.

We went North for probably twenty years in a row, mainly Perch River then Upper and Lower for awhile. Lots of work. But my dad used to say that if you didn't enjoy the process of duck hunting, then you weren't a duck hunter. It was all about the preparation, setting the decoys, training the dog, practicing at the range (not nearly enough). Either swearing at the mosquitoes or pouring hot coffee over your fingers to get them to move. I haven't been up there in a couple of years. Everybody got kids and got busy, myself included. I'm glad that the duck gods were good to you! Maybe next year...

LMAO. True that! I forgot about the spinners!! Mojo dove operated off a six volt battery and was deadly on pigeon. The motion really attracted the birds, and unlike ducks where it could be advantageous or detrimental, pigeons never got spooked by spinners, probably because they saw them so little. That'd likely change if they were in widespread use. Pigeons aren't dumb, despite appearances.

It's easy, and usually warranted, to be concerned about applying more chemicals to our already saturated bodies. But in the case of permethrin it may help to know that it's a chemical that's naturally produced by chrysanthemum rather than a synthetic. So if it kills you, at least you won't become a zombie. Probably. Back to hunting. Pequod was out with me last night and took a five-point from one of the Millennium stands. The deer had no idea he was around, and if you know Jim, you know he usually smells like fish . Being 22 feet up is a great advantage. We took the deer to Jay's on Rt 259 and I anticipate it'll be ready to be picked up this morning. Jim swears by Swan's for sausage, and that's where most of it will go. First score on our property for the year. Not a monster, but it made Jim happy and it's been a few years since his last one with the bow, so he was shaking pretty good. That's a trophy in my book.

That blows. It sounds like a tough situation for all, but you should have been in the water in July...

Anyone have a rod building jig for sale
Gator replied to Jake sarnicola's topic in Open Lake Discussion
If you're handy, you can build one really easily. Take a look online first to get an idea of what they're comprised of...usually just notched supports with felt and a thread tensioning device with a spring. I probably have an old one around somewhere if you want and you're in the Rochester area--pm me. -
Or you just call a friend who's 99% chimp at the DNA level (we all are, actually) and he climbs your tree and hoists your stand for you. Hint, hint.

Had a decent buck bust out of a thicket on one of the doe who was eating clover off a frost-seeded trail. He then crossed some thick stuff to immediately below the stand, gave the ladder a brief sniff, and worked to the corn. I took a couple of cell phone shots, but they're not worth posting. Other than that, a couple of doe walked by at dark.

I'm planning on an evening sit, too. Still no big boys showing up on the camera...lots of scrubs...and not much movement in the morning . Elite GT500, QAD Ultra Rest, Montana Black Gold Flashpoint sight, Carbon Express Mayhem shafts and Slick Trick fixed broadheads. Quick question: has anyone started to see acorns dropping yet? It's hard to time in years where the weather changes so dramatically, but I think that the crop should be bumper.

I'd contact John Powell who posted above. He has a great reputation and I'm sure can build something to suit you. There's lots of great choices to be made and it's a fun process designing a custom build.

Frabill I-float suits 70% off
Gator replied to BarnacleBill's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
Field Supply has had the entire Frabill line deeply discounted since winter of last year. By this point, there has to be sizes and colors in short supply. My buddies and I ordered a bunch of the F4 rainsuits and I5 winterwear, top of the line stuff, for next to nothing. -
I'm not sure why there'd be special regulations pertaining to Oakies, but it's interesting that a related bug the European Crane Fly larvae, also called a leatherback, has become a prominent invasive in upstate NY. Unlike Oakies which can be found in stream debris, the European version inhabits your lawn! All those big mosquito-looking things that have been laying eggs in clouds over your lawn the past two weeks are European Crane Flies. They're an enormous nuisance and the grubs can create large bare patches in the sod. So, if you want to fish Oakies these days, you could likely go dig them up from your lawn .

And fluoro is much harder to get a good knot tied...kudos for taking the extra time, too. Make sure you spare a little to come shoot some of those pesky critters running around my place :).
